We're really going to blame today's loss on the manager? Damn Lou forgetting to tell Wells the wind is blowing in and giving up 3 homers would be embarrassing today.

To be honest, I find the whole baseball manager thing kind of silly. Wearing an actual uniform? Apparently responsible for how a guy hits at the plate in a one-on-one contest with the pitcher? How much does Lou Piniella deserve blame for D Lee batting .250 or Dusty deserve credit for D Lee batting .335? Little to none. The fact we hold baseball managers responsible for much in these games is laughable. Football, College Basketball, Hockey, and Soccer head coaches/managers have far more responsibilities than these guys. Baseball managers don't deserve much credit and don't deserve much blame for what takes place in a game other than some of the chess matches that take place after the 5th inning in the National League.

There's something to be said for quality of leadership. Would Easy still be the same under Capt. Sobel as they were under Winters? No, I don't think so. Lou wasn't leading this team. He was just filling out a line card. He didn't tell Ramirez to suck it the fuck up and work with a hitting coach, and presumably the same for Lee. He's not particularly good at developing the yoots either. It took Steve Fucking Stone to tell Lou that Colvin needs to play.

The rest of the bullpen should retire too. They're unbelievably making it look like releasing Howry was somehow a bad idea.

Trivia: Sobel was from Chicago as was the actor,David Schwimmer, who played him in the mini series.

While I'm at it... another thing...
Whose job is it to quash that bullshit attitude that Lee had? The one where he says "having to hear about losing puts you in a negative environment."
Is that the Manager's job? Should Lou have gotten them to believe that it doesn't matter what happened in the past, for we control our future? Yesterday is over Dlee. Play for this season, not the last 101.
