In comparison to those that came before him he was a great manager. If he would have made his winning seasons every other year they would still love him. The fans did cheer for him yesterday though.

While I fully respect his body of work between 2007 and mid 2009, I doubt it can be denied that he straight up gave up on the Cubs. The players knew it, and played like they knew it.

Unlike Dick Jauron and Bill Cartwright (as a coach), Lou actually accomplished some things. He led the Cubs to 3 consecutive winning seasons. He also guided the team to consecutive division titles, for the first time in 100 years. No, he did not do well in the post-season and did not reach the ultimate goal of a Championship, but he did a pretty fair job prior to 2010. Then again, he was dealt such a poor hand this season, I doubt if any Manager could have guided this squad to another division title, much less a WS title.

I liked Jauron but I didn't consider either create coaches. I thought Cartwright was going to put a hole in the floor stomping his feet. Lou is still a HoF coach and those guys were nowhere near HoF coaches.
