Macy Gray/Common (Aragon) - the wife wanted to go. Still haven't forgiven her. Common was decent, Macy Gray made me want to hurt myself severely.

Black Crowes (Aragon) - same story as Macy Gray, except without Common.

The Mighty Blue Kings (House of Blues) - that "swing" fad was nearly the end of the Earth's existence. Again. My wife's idea. (Running theme.......)

Southern Coulture on the Skids (Fitzgerald's) - I had heard from several people what a great live act they were. They weren't.



But the topper of all of them:

Creed/Three Doors Down (Alpine Valley) - thank god I didn't have a gun with me that day. Free tickets, went with friends who really liked them. The wife and I decided to get into one of those stupid drunken arguments that couples have that day - simply so we wouldn't have to pay attention to the shit on the stage.

July 2001 - Stabbing Westward - Wicker Park Fest - Bad, bad, bad.

June 2008 - Cursive - Subterranean - With Doug and a good number of the PA guys. They played an album they hadn't even recorded yet straight through (Mama, I'm Swollen), and it was hot as fuck in there. The crowd, being the hardcore fan boys and girls we were, were willing to give the band the benefit of the doubt for most of the set, but they lost nearly everybody's interest by the end of it. They came out for an extended encore of favorites, but by that point, lead singer Tim Kasher was dick in the dirt drunk, leading to some pretty sloppy versions of usually great songs.

It's probably Chicago blasphemy for people my age and musical taste to say this, but when I saw Naked Raygun in concert (Maybe 91-92ish) I thought they sucked.

They were actually the opening act for Hoobastank. I barely knew of them at the time of the concert. A few months later, they were all over the place. I hated all the people that jumped on the bandwagon. I was a fan for weeks before them!

Sheryl Crow, even in the context of a fest (q101 twisted) and doing like 40 mins, was worse than death.

They probably did suck around that time, that had to be right before they broke up originally.

Since I was too young to see them on the first go-around, I've caught them a few times doing reunion stuff, etc, here around town since they reformed sans Haggerty and they've been pretty good, though probably nowhere near as awesome as they were around '85-'88.

I like the topic, Spank, and I could probably list these all day as well One of the times that I saw Tool was at one of those radio station fests - that says enough right there, but Linkin Park was one of the bands - most of the crowd was there to see them...I wasn't impressed. Maynard wasn't impressed with the crowd, either, and he wound-up cutting the show short because of the huge numbers of douchebags there, leaving with a phrase to the effect of, " ...anyone who isn't one of our fans can eat a big bag of salty dicks!"

I also saw The Toadies open up for someone, and that most definitely stands out in my mind as some of the longest 45 minutes of my life...

I was pretty excited to see Kim & Kelly Deal at Lounge Ax in '99, but they were bad. I believe they still were having some of their, um, "issues" at that point.

Perfect Circle - UIC Pavillion (2003-ish): No Booze, No Smokes, No Fun. Very boring show. I like Tool, but have never had a chance to see them. Perfect Circle is dogshit.

Raveonettes - Empty Bottle (2009): The Raveonettes are one of my favorite bands, and I was really looking forward to this show. It was Lollapalooza weekend last year, and it was great that they were playing such a small place. I thought there would be tons of jamming/feedback/noise like on their albums, but was horribly disappointed. Very boring show. Mrs. Douchebag (who is also a fan of them), fell asleep standing up I still like them, but would pass on ever seeing them again.

Guns N Roses - Allstate Arena (2002): This was part of their very short-lived "reunion" tour, which only lasted about 8 shows (2 of which Axl no showed). Axl now reads lyrics from a teleprompter. I was in the balcony, show was extremely boring and predictable.

Weezer - United Center (2002-ish): I think this was around the time Maladroit came out. My friend and I had seats behind the floor, so we were about a mile away from the stage. We bribed the security guard to let us on the floor ($20 each), but were caught by his supervisor trying to sneak in. I think the dude was fired because we didn't see him the rest of the show. We never got on the floor, and my friend lost his $20. I had not handed mine off yet, when the supervisor came over and busted us. Overall it was a bad show. Most of my bad concert experiences come from arena shows, and I haven't gone to one since this show.

Audioslave - The Riv (2004? / Whenever the first album came out): This was one of the first shows the band ever played together. I don't know if they just didn't get a feel for each other yet, or they played like shit the rest of their career, but it was a pretty terrible show. I learned that Chris Cornell cannot sing anymore, and just needs to go away. I liked Audioslave's first album, but the rest of their stuff is just garbage.

Chevelle - House of Blues (2002): I used to be a big fan of Chevelle back in the day. Their first album would definitely make my Top whatever of all time (maybe Top 20). I saw them a number of times at the Metro during their early days, and really dug them. This House of Blues show was their first tour for their newer album "Wonder Whats Next". The crowd was filled with a bunch of 13-14 year olds. Girls were screaming about how cute the guys in the band were, and the set consisted of mainly their new stuff. It was the last time I ever saw Chevelle. If you ever questioned the definition of selling out, this show would define it for you. Feeling old at a show when I was only 21 years old, was really kind of weird also.

I was at both of those shows. they opened for nine inch nails. the first perfect circle album had not been released yet...so, they played the album from start to finish both nights.
I thought it was a pretty good show. but, i also like their first album quite a bit.

This was not with Nine Inch Nails. Perfect Circle headlined, and The Mars Volta (who I cannot stand) opened. It could have been 2004 maybe. It was right around the time Perfect Circle's 2nd album came out.

Definitely #1 on my list. I have seen Buffett probably 7 or 8 times in 3 different states. The
guy is a marketing genius, an average song writer and sub par guitar player. I told my wife 5
