i haven't really seen a lot of what i would consider really bad shows, thankfully. i'm excluding things like going on stage 2 hours late or something, just talking about the sets themselves

DJ Spooky @ Metro, 10/3/97: this was some psued-industrial/techno/trip hop shit and it was absolutely terrible.

EPMD @ House Of Blues, 8/11/97: First of all, Crucial Conflict opened. i'm sure some of you here remember them, they were horrible. terrible. a straight up bone thugs n harmony ripoff. so that started the evening off bad. then EPMD comes on and plays for MAYBE 30 minutes. Probably 20 or 25. Didn't even play full songs, like 1 verse of a song then switch to something else. pretty much the stereotype of a bad rap show

Jeru tha Damaja / DJ Shadow @ Park West, 4/13/97: this was really bizarre. for one, I thought it was a really odd pairing of artists...completely different styles, they had never worked together or anything. DJ Shadow was OK but Jeru was awful. Again, it was rap show cliche as the majority of the show was spent with him telling us we weren't loud enough and stopping songs and having the right and left sides of the house say "hoooo"..it was really bad

Guided By Voices @ Metro, 6/12/97: This was more just massive disappointment, I never got to see them in their prime lineup since they always played 21+ places and I was still under 21. So finally when I was able to see them, he fired the entire band and replaced it so it was a pretty big letdown

KMFDM @ Metro, 5/28/94: pretty typical example of a bad techno/industrial show. they played the album they were touring for (forgot what it is now since i haven't listened to it in years but I obviously liked it at the time) front to back in order, without stopping and without saying a word in-between songs.

Combustible Edison @ Double Door, 10/31/98: I have no idea what I was doing here on Halloween but i remember this show being awful. i know someone else mentioned squirrel nut zippers and that awful swing movement or whatever it was...Combustible Edison was like that but a bit more loungy and easy listening. i'm sure there were a lot of hipsters there

Ani DiFranco @ Chicago Theatre, 1/17/04: when i get sad about being divorced i think about this. i was one of maybe 20 men at this show

I disagree on that one

You forgot to add this one:

Boris @ Metro,8/13/2010

Blink 182 was quite brutal live when I saw them in 01 i think it was. However, I did get to see a very young alkaline trio open for them. I left that show thinking they sucked, but also with a strong desire to rock out to Alkaline trio, which I did.

Against me at the House of Blues a few years back seemed really loud and mangled. Once again though, I did catch an ass kicking opening band I had never heard of. This time it was the Cobra Skulls.

In my more metal years, saw Testament at The Vic....I think it was around 90/91 maybe. Bad, hot, smokey, distortey, too longey.

Worst show ever. Everything was completely distorted and inaudible. Yeah, it was a metal show...but I've been to many where you can at least differentiate the songs and hear the difference between each instrument and/or vocal.

Saw them in 92ish touring for the Naive album and it was completely unremarkable. Must be the German efficiency.

Am I the only person who has absolutely no clue as to who these two guys are?

Yes

They are characters from Eddie and the Cruisers. It's a movie that came out before you were born.

Was it Monster? Whatever it was, it was bad.

If it was the original lineup, it was the Monster Tour.

The original lineup would have been around in '88/'89 too.

I know, but if he is right about the date, it's Monster.

I have never seen Eddie and The Cruisers. I've heard RPB likes to talk to himself sometimes...

just a few corrections  :

"nihil" came out in '94. and they sucked live when i saw them at the troc in philly in '97, too. so i guess they really don't translate well on stage. pigface opened and he was BETTER than them.

REM's '98 tour wasn't "Monster", that came out in '94. This was the "Up" tour, and while that album wasn't great, I saw them in '99 in one of the best live concerts I've ever been to. They played almost 45 minutes of nothing but classics. It was outstanding.

The WORST live show I've ever seen was Badly Drawn Boy in '01. Absolutely brutal. Apparently he's gotten better, but back then he would get slobbery drunk and then play a 3 hour goddamn set. He would get lost in the middle of his songs, ramble to the audience in between songs, and after an hour he says, "We're a third of the way through..." It's the only concert I ever walked out on that early.

"Apples in Stereo" around 2003; just really disappointed. They sounded noisy and the lead singer, who sounds so thick on the albums, was just yelling a lot. And they came out two hours later than scheduled. The show was supposed to start at 9 and they didn't come on until almost midnight.

"Gorillaz" in 2002 I think...around their first album. Had technical difficulties and they didn't go on until about 3 hours after they were supposed to. They played for 45 minutes, behind that wall where you can't see them; then they did 3 encore songs...one of which was "Clint Eastwood"...WHICH THEY DID IN THEIR REGULAR SET, TOO!

The opener for Green Day when I saw them in '97 was Superdrag. Easily the douchiest opening band I've ever seen. They were being booed (because they had that ONE HIT that sucked anyway) and the bassist started harassing the crowd. Then the lead singer broke in and started yelling at the crowd. It was embarrassing.

Wheaton Zack, pretty much always. fucking awful.

Not sure how I forgot this one but....Lords of Acid @ The Eagles Ballroom in Millwaukee. I don't know why I let someone drag me to this. It was fucking weird to say the least. I was particularly creeped out by some people dressed as druids.

Guns 'N Roses at Alpine Valley, circa 1992 for Use Your Illusion tour.

Not only is Alpine Valley a major pain in the ass (unless you're intoxicated), but G'NR were at least 40 minutes late getting on stage. We were way back and could barely hear anything...brutal.

The O'Kane Sisters at Fitzgerald's. These two fat broads who played guitars and sang. They had an excellent percussionist, though, who had absolutely no business being with them.

It was 2002, and it did suck. I think Mushroomhead went on after him, and they were great.

Korn-Ozzfest 2003. Sound was horrendous and I forgot they can't really play instruments. It sucked cause I was really looking forward to seeing them live.

Guns N Roses at Alpine Valley 1988 - They opened for Aerosmith and sounded like they drank, shot, and snorted their breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

You're an idiot and your wife made a wise decision.

I've seen Ani in concert at least 10x and everytime she's been amazing.

Got dragged to a Jimmy Buffet concert in Tampa a few years ago. Stomached it for about a half hour before retreating to the car to smoke pot and listen to the radio.

I'm just keeping a little list:

1. Only plays "no-check" hockey
2. Has seen AniDiFranco in concert at least 10 times, by choice.
3.
4.
