I sir, resemble that remark. I miss Mikey on radio. Always entertaining especially when he had his "crew" coming on the show:Fritzy,Knuckles.
I now spend my time eating subs in Tony's Italian Deli on NW HWY in the front window, hoping for a sighting of my hero.

Pasta, meatball. Wit you Eye-talians, it's all the same.

That motherfucker isn't from Bridgeport. He's from Rogers Park/Edgewater.

No worries. I just figured Bridgeport had enough knuckleheads without assigning them another one.

So, but let's see if I understand this.. Space picks up Pappy for an unspecified (and also) unmenial job @ Fox. So like, what's North? Not neccesarily a host, but perhaps that also...

Or is he the designated endorser? Does the ads, grooms the clients, etc., a la the early Score days...?

What makes me think that Space is due for a quick tee-off from Fox?

I don't buy Pappy saying that he can't do anything cuz of his CBS 2 contract. He's just saying that so he has an excuse when nobody hires him. I also don't believe they signed him for 2 years. I believe it was only a 1 year deal, so he only has a few months left. Do you honestly think CBS 2 cares what he does while under contract? Media outlets only enforce "no compete" clauses for talented people. People that have a following. Nobody watched North at CBS 2. They don't give a shit where he goes. Another North lie. Hell, big Jiggs quickly went back to Comcast. CBS 2 didn't seem to mind.

Plus, like Rodeo said, they really don't owe Pappy much money. His entire deal was mostly based on advertisors that he couldn't get.

Believe what you want. North gets paid by CBS TV for another 1-1/2 years, & he soon will be collecting a paycheck from Fox Sports Radio without even being on the air. So he double dips while doing absolutely no work. Dumb like a Fox, huh...

That pretty much sums it up perfectly. I know that's how I feel when it comes to North.

Scorehead, I don't understand how CBS has to still pay him and allow him to work on Fox at the same time. Don't you think that there would be some type of non-compete in place? Also, I am sure he doesn't get paid by Fox until he starts being on the air.
No doubt, though, this guy always seems to have all of the angles covered.

John Kirk, what's your angle on this North stuff? You claim to not be a fan of the "current" Mike North, but ALL you do is run around the board telling people how smart/savvy/wealthy/"not dumb" he is. So which is it? Do you no longer care for a guy you once enjoyed, or are you so obsessed with the dude that you need to defend him against a murder of meatball messageboard jerks who "unfairly" rip him?

I understand why some burn the calories to rip on the guy for pissing away what was quite a story - what I don't get is you scurrying around the board like a coked up Fritzy to defend North (although you really don't like him...you're not sayin', you're just sayin').

Actually, there was a comment on one of Feder's blogs (the one that appeared about two weeks after the show started that said the show was losing viewers). The comment made mention of a two-year contract with CBS.

I'm not sure why Bruno Cohen would have given this a two-year deal. Then again, he probably had access to some funds to write this off early (the same funds that were used to wipe out Ed Curran).

You can spin it any way you want but the fact is that North could be hosting a morning drive show on Chicago's #1 sports yakker while bringing in upwards of $700K per year...but instead will be toiling in relative obscurity on a 3rd rate station for substantially less cash.

I can't stand North anymore. I don't enjoy listening to him. I appreciate & respect him for going from a high school drop out street kid to a millionaire, & for his ability to promote himself & survive. I really couldn't care less about North anymore, but some of the younger guys here talk about him even though they weren't around back in the day & aren't aware of his importance in making the Score a successful sports radio station when everyone said they would fail. Like it or not, North ran WSCR for about 10 years. Nothing was done without discussing it with him. No one is more responsible for the Scores success than North. You older guys who have listenED since day 1 in 1992 know exactly what I mean.

The Monsters were the stars of the station; the signature sound of the station.

Of the bunch, North was the best known/well recognized personality from the station amongst the general population. Even today, that's true. Put North on a WTTW segment with Bernsie; people will ask who the short guy is.

Which doesn't mean he's good as a talk show host anymore. I consider his Score morning show to be insufferably bad. The afternoon show with Buffone was tolerable. The solo show was okay. And frankly, Monsters was his high spot. But that's several years of constant decline, not to mention the failed ventures post-Score.

I think the turning point was right around the Pat Riley shaving your head thing.

The brief national exposure went to his head.

Agrred.
North went from lovable rogue buffoon to Pumpkin Head idiot.
He was responsible for a lot of the early success of WSCR....and then with his idiotic ego and complete lack of knowledge and insight into things beyond his immediate sports knowledge, he ran WSCR into the ground.....Hot Dog Vendor, Army Vet...friend of the Little Guy turns himself into Henry Hill.
