A guy who wants to take his kids out to the ballpark can now do so. The kids couldn't care less about the team on the field but will enjoy the time at the park & have some memories forever.

29,500 is not empty...it's perfect...enough fans so thats its not a travesty, yet enough empty seats to be able to walk up and enjoy a game on a whim

stop making it out to be like we are PNC park

It wont be perfect when Ricketts stops spending money because there are no more sell outs. It stinks that I cant get a Cubs ticket whenever i want, but I want every game to sell out so they can spend the money.

Spending that money wisely is a whole different subject...

It's less than 75% capacity, which for the Cubs is a big problem.

Yeah, but now I can stretch my feet out on the seat in front of me, AND see Micah Hoffpauir. What could be better than that?

we are not the yankees...guess u didnt learn from Hendry's mistakes...dont be something ur not...cultivate ur young players and be patient and success will come...the Cubs more than anyone can afford to do that because they have money and have good attendance no matter what...its amazing that they dont take advantage of what the Royals, Pirates, and Brewers wish they had...but that's starry-eyed Hendry for you

Cultivate young players and be patient?!? You dont have time to do that, it has been over a century for gods sake. If this isnt just a bit that you do to annoy people on a message board, then you are a first class asswipe.

having a loser mentality like yours is what is wrong with the cubs. You would rather sit in the bleachers and have a beer than watch your team win the World Series. Do you think Yankee fans think like this? they are infuriated when they miss the playoffs and act like the world is coming to an end. The mentality should always be to win the WS every single year.

i agree with u, but u have to get there the right way

the yankees did it with their farm system and then signing guys to complement them and keep the momentum going

Hendry fails to realize this...he wants to sign a bunch of retreads and sprinkle in a couple kids...No...thats not how u do it...the kids should be some of ur cornerstones...in the last 20 years the Cubs have not developed ONE position player that was a cornerstone of their lineup for years to come...NOT ONE!!...and dont say Mark Grace, he came up in 1988

how do u think the Reds are doing it? with Votto and Bruce! and other quality kids mixed in...and then Rolen mixed in as a veteran presence...that team is now built to win for years to come because of this and their assortment of good young pitchers...

I like Castro but to me we need another one of him or two...we need to have our own identity...not try and melt a bunch of Eric Young's together every year

once u get the momentum going, then, yes, spending money helps you because u have an established cutlture that u can hang ur hat on...instead of always trying to appeal differently to every guy u try to sign, which ends up being a flailing colloid

I'm tired of explaining this to every damn guy on here that comes along and equates "spending money" with "winning"...things aren't that simple

No, spending money does not equal winning, look at the Cubs and Mets for examples of that. The key is spending money wisely. I couldnt care less if the Cubs won a WS title with Castro and Colvin or if they traded them for veterans who got the job done. The whole point is to win the World Series.

So, whistler, you appear to be a pretty big die hard Cubs fan, but:

fail...I'm a Sox fan too

viewtopic.php?p=865450#p865450

So, which is it? As a Sox fan, if you are too, you are turning this into the meatball stereotype that all Sox fans care about is the Cubs. This is a stance I find offensive. I still contend that most of your thoughts make you baseball stupid, but declare yourself.

why cant I like both?

I grew up a Cubs fan but also like the Sox...I dont get into the rivalry...seems childish to me

not sure why that would offend u or anyone

Not offended, I just find it odd.

I too watch both teams, but I have no interest in the Cubs other than the 6 times a year they play the Sox.

The whole "I like both teams" is very Harry of you.

31.6 yesterday. A divisional game, on Labor Day, a beautiful afternoon.
That's a bad sign.

39,473 when I was there on Saturday. Pretty empty right up until the game started
though. Only reason it was that high was a beautiful day on a holiday weekend.
