I'm going to wait until the Illini get pasted by Mizzou until I concur.

Believe me, when your team gets beat by a one of the Big 12 teams that nobody else wants, it's not a good feeling.

You must be watching NIU vs. Iowa St.

What does it cost to run a big time football program? In that article you linked it says Michigan State spent $45 million on athletics with $6.8 million of it on hoops. How much of the remaining $38.2 million does it take to run the football program? What are there, about eleven non-revenue sports or so?
Well, Villanova runs the whole athletic department on about 20 million. There is a difference between what they can run it on and what they do run it on. A place like Texas probably could run with a profit of 50 million if they wanted. I'll reference Purdue because I know them best, but they are currently doing an upgrade to the basketball facilities that cost about $100 million. When that is done, they will put $100 million into upgrading the football stadium most likely. They've also built a new aquatic center, and are building a new baseball stadium.

So basically, they spend a whole lot more than Villanova can even consider, and they play average to below average football. If they really wanted, they could build up hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 10 years.

If they over turn this, the fix is in.

Pasted is a better term. Right now, it's not even close.

Good call. NIU must take advantage here.

Why do these announcers keep saying that a "FG doesn't do anything for you here" in a 17-0 game in the 1st half?

Does it really matter how well they play? Isn't that the point of being in a conference? That they all share? I mean, I'd guess that Michigan with its big stadium and its noted program makes marginally more than Purdue, but isn't all the television and merchandising dough split up evenly? Didn't Texas kind of blackmail the Big 12 to get a bigger deal than anyone else?

Well, compared to watching the kicker miss three straight, you're right...

It matters greatly how many fans they get in the stadium and how much they can charge them. TV revenue is split evenly. It's a good system for both the haves and have nots.

So yes, it matters how well they play. However, you could lose every game and still get a decent payout. It's always better to sell out your stadium and get more money in "donations" from fans.

You feel slighted because 2 blow hards are talking about revenues while IU is dominating too?

I may be misquoting him but I think I heard Hub Arkush say that Pitt was a possible sleeper national title team. Not so fast my friend...
