When he came back I thought he just got lucky in a few of his starts, because you can see he is not throwing as hard.

Now tonight his 8th straight start and he has not allowed more than 2 ER in any of those games!

He throws down and in. He throws Curve balls and changes. He rarely throws a fast ball over 94.

I think he learned how to pitch and it's impressive.

Said it before is some thread, He is My Guy!

Sosa loved to hit home runs when the Cubs were down, or up, 12-2.

We've seen this act before. Just a matter of time before another meltdown.

I dont think we have seen this act before. He is not pitching well because of his fast ball or sinker.

And I 100% agree he is pitching when it does not matter, but this is how you ate least earn a spot, or better yet...a trade?

If this is showcasing, then great. Nobody's taking his loco ass anyway. More likely it will just be ammunition for idiot Hendry to call him their reformed Ace next year and declare the offseason a success.

Hendry doesn't have the stones to trade Z unless Ricketts demands it. I want to see Z pitch when it matters and I won't be holding my breathe. One can only hope for the best but expect the worst. Hopefully the last year of that bloated contract doesn't vest.

If the Cubs could get some minor league prospects for him, trade him FAST!
I bet the BoSox or maybe even the Brewers would agree to take him for 2/3's of his contract, with the Cubs paying 1/3 to get him out of town.

2/3 is still $12 mil?

Do you think this guy is still a $12mil pitcher??

If he wanted to do the Cubs a favor he would retire now so they didn't have to pay him

Again you all lose all credibility by claiming he only pitches well when the Cubs are out of it. The media and fan boyfriends were great and kissed media butt and lost 90 + games every year.

Zambrano is obviously not someone who keeps the Cubs from winning. Since he became a full time major leaguer in o3 the Cubs have won 3 divisions and had 2 other winning seasons.

To the contrary the media boyfriends like Grace barely sniffed 500 when they played most of the time.

The fact the media wants him to be run out of town is enough reason to keep him.

People that think for themselves want the Cubs to keep him. people that let the media think for them don't.

Doesn't sound like you're thinking for yourself now does it? Why do you care what the media says? It's not a matter of thinking for yourself. It's a matter of understanding baseball, the Zambrano mentality, and his contract situation. I don't want him because he is a proven inconsistent player. We've seen him fail, apologize, reform, and play well over several cycles in his career. There is no reason to believe this time will be any different. That said, there is very little chance that he will be traded IMO unless there is some out of town stupid GM out there. So, I challenge you to base your decision on fact, not reaction to what is said in the media. What is your analysis of his performance and why do you have confidence that he will continue into next year and beyond?

Let's face some facts

Zambrano is crazy

Grace was a good ballplayer, had some good players (Sandberg and I can't think of another one) around him.

The reason that the Cubs didn't win was because the Tribune Company didn't need them to in order to turn a profit. They realized that having a couple of names that draw (Sandberg, Sosa, Grace, Wood, Prior, etc) up until the late 90's was good enough for them because they were filling the ballpark on a day in/day out basis, with a mixture of knowledgable baseball fans and yokels from out of town who became defacto Cubs fans because they had the superstation, and there are no actual professional sports in Iowa. Towards the end, when the powers that be knew they were going to be selling, along with the hard core 24/7 coverage by media, they decided to cement their legacy by trying to win. Unfortunately, in the interest of winning, they decided to follow the Steinbrenner model of the early 2000's, which basically involved shelling out a ton of money for guys who are not the right fit (Soriano, Bradley, Z's extension, etc). That is the true legacy of the Tribune Company's regime.

Unfortunately, the Ricketts regime is stuck coming out from the rubble of the TribCo crap fest, and will be for a couple of more years. Until the albatross contracts are gone, this team will not win. You will notice that Z was the ace of a staff prior to getting his new paper, since then, he has been a grade A nutjob. I think the best case scenario is to cut ties, but Ricketts will be paying a good chunk of that contract if someone actually takes him, which will not help payroll relief.

I think Zambrano was a nut job prior to getting the new paper, however he was pretty successful so when he did have his occassional outburst, you could at least fallback on the fact he was a pretty good pitcher.

All those innings and pitchers took it's toll, and the last few years you could see a decline. His arm doesn't have the same life as before, he could no longer overpower hitters. Add in the injuries and you see more outburst from a frustrated Zambrano.

Has Zambrano turned a corner with his anger management classes? Has Zambrano reinvented himself like Frank Tanana, learning to pitch instead of having electric stuff? I wish I could say yes, but I have my doubts with Zambrano.

If you can trade Zambrano and maybe half of whats remaining of his contract, you probably do it, but if not, keep him and hope he can be a #2 type starter

exactly right

I never wavered once about my view on Z even after his outburst

everyone overreacted including Hendry...the popular view is that he should be gone...yes, that's media thinking for you

i never thought twice about that...stuff like that happens in the clubhouse on every team...Z was just trying to fire his team up

Yes and Jesse Jackson just wants a small amount of media coverage.
