wow was this standard issue. in some ways it's a shame "goodfellas" was so good; it's been ripped off mercilessly for 20 years. winter has no creativity at all. he's frank spotnitz or john wells.

Yeah, all 3 had their season finales last weekend, all 3 will be back for new seasons. A final season for Entourage, with a possible big screen treatment after the series ends.

capone should not sound like he's from hoboken. pesci's accent in "casino" was pretty good; it could be like that. "chicago tough" or whatever. but he sounds east coast, and that's lame.

Capone was born and raised in Brooklyn. He moved to Chicago and set up shop.

I won't judge the series by the premiere episode but it definitely has some work
to do to keep my interest. I did enjoy the costumes and sets in a lot of the scenes.
There was a decent amount of violence which is kind of what I was expecting.
Unfortunately I think they missed the boat with the casting of Buscemi. I normally
really enjoy his work but he just can't pull off this character, or at least he hasn't
yet.

Most pilot episodes are bad. I was disappointed with this episode, but it should get better.

i know he was born there; i just read that he didn't move to chicago till 1918; i thought he would've picked up a chicago accent by living there as long as he did...the episode takes place right when prohibition would've started, and he had been living in chicago. but maybe the accent wouldn't have translated yet or something...i always thought of him as "chicago" and not new york.

my mistake.

They even reference as much in the scene where he introduces himself. He compared the cold in both places.

Let it play out a little. This may work itself into a Buscemi type character, as he loses control of the situation to other forces. I liked the redhead cowgirl.

The worst acting was by Brad Pitt's little brother. I really don't like that guy.

I thought it was a good episode. Pilots are always a bit slow usually because the main focus is character and play developments. The show has potential

I swear that most people on television talk like midwesterners, since is the least accented. everyone can talk like a Southerner ya'll..., new YOrk, or LA surf dude...

Michael Pitt is brutal. His only good role was in that Bertolucci film, because the character called for utter bewilderment (his only mode).

According to legend it was either Capone or Frankie Yale. And since the charater in the show wasn't capone it had to be Yale, but they never bothered to introduce that character so my guess is they are ignoring legend and going with "faceless gangster" as the culprit.


I really don't like the casting of Capone in this. Way too small and unassuming. Not nearly tough looking enough. Capone was a big, tough bad ass meathead and this character seems more like a lacky than anything else.

Watched episode 2 yesterday and it was ok. Continuing to build things up and
flesh out characters. Still unsure about some of the casting but I'll continue to
watch to see how things develop. Bad blood between Nucky and Goldstein could
produce some sparks, and that appears to be where things may be headed.

They identify the shooter in the second episode when Rothstein I believe asks the guy who killed him who he took those orders from. Don't exactly remember what the guys name was but I know it wasn't Capone.

The ratings for the Sunday premiere of HBO's prohibition era extravaganza Boardwalk Empire were barely in this morning when the pay cable network announced a second-season pickup for the drama from Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter. HBO made the decision "following resounding critical approval and high viewer numbers", it said.

This series continues to chug forward but nothing earth shattering happening. Gretchen
Mol is playing a nice horny cougar thus far. I've always liked her. So obvious from the get
go that the main character Nucky is going to go for the immigrant chick that he can't stop
helping. His girlfriend is easy to look at as she is pretty much naked in every episode. So
far I have been disappointed, but I'll stick around to see what happens. Still love the time
period and costumes. It looks pretty, just doesn't keep me all that interested.

Show should be spelled BOREDWALK EMPIRE - I'll stick around for a few more but it needs to pick up.

I kept HBO after True Blood ended just for this show. I'm really close to saving my $14 a month.

I think the deliberate pacing is great. Terrence Winter, who wrote and produced Sopranos, also produces this show. So if you've seen any Sopranos, this kind of slow pace is to be expected. It's not really that slow anyway. Someone's either getting shot, or some tits are in your face, or Al capone is going crazy, or Lucky Luciano is getting his gonorrhea treated.

It's a great show so far IMO.
