I don't know. I think they are going to get squashed Monday and you are going to look like a goof.

Monday night. Green Bay. Big game. Of course they will get beat. That may be the last game we lose in the first half of the season.

But I think it's going to really expose their weaknesses. I have to watch the beginning of today's game to see if they did well but their opponents have been bad.

You mean the Lions...who put up 30+ on a top defense and playoff contender, or the Cowboys, who were a favorite super bowl pick.

Here is what you need to know, the Bears have shut down the run in two straight games. That's a basis for really good things on defense. The Cowboys rushed for over 100 last week and the Best had a good game this week for the Lions, so they are doing something that others are not.

They have no running game, but they have replaced it effectively with a short passing game. There medium depth passing game has been fantastic.

You play whoever is on your schedule. Despite my doubts, they have won the first two games.

And Lon, you can stop tooting your horn anytime now. You can shut the hell up until you find a complete version of London After Midnight.

you're pretty funny, dolphin. whoever has said the eagles D is good is insane. same with those who have picked the cowboys as superbowl contenders. that's pretty weak praise.

Bears top notch defensive line isn't exactly wowing me. I think the Packers offense is good while our secondary is still suspect. Bears o line isn't exactly great.

Bears were 9 point dogs at the beginning of this week. Would you wet blankets at least conceed that the Cowboys were generally thought to be much better than the Bears coming into today?

You would have to be blind not to recognize that this defense has been dominant against the run the last two weeks and the LB core is revitalized.

That's all well and good, but how about London After Midnight?

LBs have been good. No doubt.

The way I see it the cowboys stock has dropped more than ours has gone up.

So what? The Packers are going to put up points on everyone this year.

I guess they are a measuring stick as they are arguably the top team in the NFC. The Bears might not be super bowl worthy, but I think you can talk about playoff caliber today.

What do you mean so what? What if the d gets their ass handed to them?

I think it's early for playoff talk still and it wouldn't be because they are good but because everybody else sucks. I want my team to be good!!!! MN sucking definitely helps.

a little perspective for you, dolphin: tampa bay is also 2-0. you think they're a playoff team, too?

Looks like I'm going to get the Elmhurstaputer working tonight to show the percentage chance of a team that goes 2-0 has of making the playoffs.

take one more step back for that proper perspective, browns and chiefs, both at home, both relatively tight games

If this was the Lions and Rams, my enthusiasm would be tempered.

OK, and the bears won against the lions on a really dumb NFL call; and the cowboys could only muster 7 points against the redskins who put up 20+ today. the lions also kept close a game against the eagles who nearly put the green bay game into overtime.

the safest thing to say is that it's week effin' 2, GD. you're acting like a cubs fan with all this posturing.

WZ, he's looking pathetic enough without bringing the Cub into it.

If the Cubs went 20-0 in the first 1/8 of the season, they'd be justified in having optimism.

But I am not just looking at the wins, but how they won. Talk about the lucky call, but the Bears destroyed the Lions in every statistical category in that game. Today, the Bears shut down a team that wanted to run. The Bears dictated the way this game was played. They did this in a very difficult road venue.

So I guess I will get mocked when the Bears lose to the pack, but after that is @Giants, @Carolina, Seahawks and Redskins. They will have a really good chance of winning each of these game with the same formula.

the lions game is a wash. and the cowboys have shown that they're not ready for primetime. if the bears can string together an 8-2 record or something, and look good doing it, i'd say you're onto something.

but when you look around the league so far, i'd still put the bears in the "muddled middle" at this point. the green bay game could be a really good indicator in who's the contender and who's the pretender. green bay hasn't exactly played the elite, either.

I refuse to temper my enthusiasm after a big win, a win that everyone had as a loss at the beginning of this season.

I'll be waiting for you at the party after week 10, but by that time all the good looking women will have been fouled by me and I will have pissed on the bar.

After a night to sit back and look on this, I see the Bears jumping out to a very good first half record and a very bad second half.

Still, things are good right now and I plan to enjoy them.

Dolphin may be right about this if only because the rest of the NFC seems so weak, not because the Bears are any good. Maybe we can ride Cutler's wave of glory to the point of being downright above average!
