A kid on my sons' baseball team is nicknamed "Brawny". Whenever I see him, I think of you, Kid.

I guess when a company makes a huge percentage of their income off late fees, it doesn't matter if they change to the Netflix model - as they'll never see those late fees every again.

My beef with Blockbuster is this:

I purchased DirecTV back in 2001. With it, I got a free rental at Blockbuster for a year - one per week. Yet 'the week' continually started on a different day. First the new week was Sunday. Then Monday. And when all was said and done, out of 52 'free rentals' I probably only got about 40 because I got so tired of their bullshit and the uneducated idiots that worked behind the counter.

Usually when you get something 'for free' you'd enjoy it. Not the case with these ass fucks.

My understanding is that this is going to be a situation where they liquidate the lowest-margin stores (if they haven't already), will sell a lot of stock in the other stores, and do what they can to keep the highest-margin stores open for as long as possible - be that several months or several years.

This is true. Exactly what they are doing. I know someone in the know there. They are going under slowly and do not want too look that way!

They should have closed their doors 3 or 4 years ago. Reorganization is not going to save them. They're done. Why continue to operate at what will be a sure loss, when they can just close today and not lose another penny?

Family Video is in the same situation. And will be all done as well. They are a little better run than BB but there are going to be a lot of unemployed video store managers soon. FV pays managers pretty well if you want to work 24/7 362.

what blockbuster should do is just turn these things into museums. bring back the big plastic VHS cases and laser discs, and old movie posters, nintendo sections, etc.

i'd like that.
