First of all, the not watching the game shit is a myth. It started out as a bit, and dumb ass people thought it was truth.

Second, what is Harry knowledgeable about than either Dan or Terry, besides maybe drunken horseriding and clubhouse asshatery?

If you like CJH because they tolerate your nonsensical sports opinions rather than challenge you on whatever you say, cool. But don't pretend it's anything else.

Well that same question can be asked the same way back at Terry at least. He's not exactly a font of knowledge now is he? Terry's guy however, is a different story

Oh, I agree that Terry has become an anchor on the show. But to say that Harry is knowledgable is hilarious.

Well, I guess Terry could be considered knowledgeable in Horse Racing.

And homoeroticism.

It did start out as a bit, but it's become a truth. Terry often has no opinion on a game because he didn't bother to watch it. If he finds himself disinterested in a sporting event, he won't bother to watch it. ITS HIS JOB to watch it and be able to comment on it afterwards. Harry watches and goes to games all the time. Sure he lets his personal feelings get in the way of better judgement too often. If a player has a drink with him and becomes a friend, his playing ability is bound to be estimated as far greater than it really is, from that day forward. But you have a trivia contest between Harry and Terry .....and Harry wins it every time. He knows the history of sports and whats going on in them now, much better. Boers should have been fired years ago.

What local game has he had no opinion on?

So, he knows more trivia? Fuck, if that's all it takes put Schwab on the air.

I think it's hilarious that Harry is making way more than Mac.

Terry could not watch an entire season of baseball, while Harry attended every single game... And I would find Terry infinitely more entertaining. Terry would probably have just as insightful commentary as well.

because it's lost on ES (big shocker), this is why these guys have jobs. not because of what they know about sports. in fact most of the people that "know" a lot about sports aren't that entertaining.

i personally don't think terry's all that entertaining either, but to say something as asinine as "it's his job" is retardulous. it's a broadcaster's job to watch a game.

another example: waddle barely watches games. and he's not very entertaining, either. but he's got some clout...

Harry may watch a lot of sports but he's never been very insightful. Isn't most of his schtick to be the "everyone is great!, everything is great!" guy? I haven't listened to the show since Mac went but I always got the impression that he was the least able on the show to give actual analysis when MJH was still around. Jurko was good at a few things and useless in others.

By the way, most people who use the "I have gone to/watched a lot of games" thing as a credential to why they know a lot are compensating for a lack of knowledge. If you really did have a bunch knowledge and the ability to make quality analysis it would be obvious without having to prove it.

So Mac is "insightful"? When is the last time he said anything that the palooka at the end of the bar hasn't already said?

Ill give Harry this: He does know a lot of facts. He's kind of like Grobstein. Harry is definitely more knowledgeable Jurko outisde of Football.

I think Mac is insightful. I believe he was one of the first I heard on the fire Lovie/Jerry bandwagon but I may be wrong.

Facts are meaningless though unless you are on jeopardy. It's useless knowledge especially with the ease of use of internet related information sources on sports.

I think Harry's baseball knowledge is vastly overrated because of how many games he attends. He's the stereotypical homer who let's his emotions get in the way of actual real thoughts. Even if he does have some good quality thoughts in his head they get mangled up on the way to his mouth by wanting to be friends with all the players.

Fire the coach / GM. That's certainly an original thought.

He does actually have a decent point there. It doesn't take much intelligence to break out the torches and pitchforks and call for a GM/Coach's head. See 80% of Miike North's career.

To a point...its not COMPLETELY useless. For example Harry knew who John Wall was. And there were times on MJH when Jurko had no clue who or what they were referring to. Its nice for the host to have a good background knowledge of sports.

Who gives him any credit for attending games?

That's true but that was just the first thing that popped into my head. It's a hard question to answer for any radio host unless you are taking notes on what they say.

In regards to basketball, that is a 0-0 tie between them. Mac just admits he knows nothing. The John Wall stuff was way overblown. No one would have a problem if Mac had said "I have no idea who Juan Pablo Montoya" is.

How the fuck can you be a radio host in Chicago and not know one thing about basketball?

Boggles the mind.

Do people really want to hear about gas station problems more than they want to hear about basketball?

I would, but I don't give two shits about the NBA, and I get my college basketball fill from TV.

Nascar is likely as big or bigger in Chicago than college basketball(especially Kentucky/SEC basketball). Most Chicago sports hosts probably have no clue about that either.
Gloopan Kuratz wrote:

To be honest, I don't want someone pretending to know about college basketball. I'd rather it was completely ignored. This is my problem with B&B. They talk about college basketball but really don't understand it under the guise that "they only care about the NBA prospects of the players".

It's actually refreshing to me that a sports radio host was willing to admit that they don't know about a subject. Obviously others disagree but Mac talking SEC basketball would be painful radio and you'd likely complain about that too. He can't win unless he becomes an expert on the subject, which then you would accuse him of not saying anything that others are already saying.

The NBA is a boring product. It may well be an aftereffect of my rebelious teenage years (I hated the Bulls because everyone else liked them). I grew up in a fairly basketball intensive household, but I had and still have no interest in the pro game. I think the only reason I watch college ball is for gambling purposes, because I know I won't sit down and watch a random Big 12 basketball game because it's on. It helped that during those same formitive years, the Hawks were good, and my dad would take me to local sports bar/restaraunt establishments that would pirate in the visiting team satellite feed for Hawks home games.

No its not.

Mac doesnt like basketball. He barely watches it.

Harry will know all the top college playersa and NBA prospects are. He'll know which conference is best
He follows the NBA enough to preview the teams the Bulls would be playing.

Mac does none of that /\

i'm hoping kevin durant can change that; but in a lot of ways, i agree with you. it doesn't help that the sixers are the imitation gruel of the league right now; but there is not a lot to get excited about. it's always the celtics and the lakers; the suns aren't fun anymore; the spurs are the patriots of the nba. in the east, it's just pathetic...and now the fucking heat are going to be slobbered all over by ESPN. i believe they're even going to televise all their preseason games. So I'm coining HeatSPN right now.

i love basketball, pro and college. but i actually agree that the product isn't great right now.

How's all that NBA and college basketball knowledge working for the Tiny One? In the 25-54 male demo .... ESPN is getting slaughtered in afternoon drive. But at least Harry knows who John Wall is.
