Hey folks

Just read Lewis Lazar's column on page 20 of the Sun Times. Mike and Mike are in 4th place 25-54 men, while Mully and Hanley are in 8th. Now that's not bad, the people meters have been good for sports radio, actually making average talent think that they are better than they are.

But if WSCR took six months on an advertising blitz and actually spent some money, the SCORE would be a great station and not a good one.

The talent is good, but behind the scenes the leadership hasn't done enough to promote the product and when you're going up against a brand like ESPN you need people at the top who don't hope and pray their ratings are good like some sap at a craps table.

You need leadership that will fight for its people. But then that leadership would be gone. So expect the SCORE to stay as they are. But I've been there . Mike and Mike have ten years of promoting their product- from Sports Center to game shows, to being on TV everyday, to doing some Monday night football. Mully and Hanley are as good as Mike and Mike, they just are being out promoted.

Marketing and promoting the product at the SCORE is more a rumor than a reality

Whoa!

Like it or not, Mike is 100% correct in his assessment of the Score.

CLHuffy is more in tune with the realities of the situation. They can spend all they want on ads. What good does it do them if they cannot generate enough money in advertising dollars when/if the ratings go up?

I dont know why Mike and Mike appeal so much to people. Its a difficult listen, at best. In a way, I dont blame the SCORE for not promoting Mully and Handley more. If I was Mitch, I would have these truths in front of me:

1) Sports fans are fully aware that there is 670 and 1000 for sports talk.

2) Sports fans in Chicago that follow Chicago teams will more often than not choose 670.

I wouldn't consider either of these to be truths.

1) As a sports fan who was a casual sports radio listener, I wasn't even aware what the score was. And only leaned of it after Mac complained/fired away on the score one afternoon on MJH. I'm willing to bet that there is a percentage of WMVP listeners, who only know of espn1000 through espnchicago.com, who don't know of the score.

2) If this were true then espn1000 wouldn't even be competing with the score. Some people prefer the vanilla style of espn, I know I did. After learning about the score, I tuned in to B&B and just didn't understand what the hell was going on, there were random drops, hosts laughing hysterically, and nothing was about sports, so I immediately tuned back to MJH. It felt so much more organized, on topic, and friendlier to listen to. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would prefer that style over the score.

The greatest fault of Mitch IMO, is that the advertising you hear today for Mully and Hanely, you know:

"Our guys talk about the Bears on Monday, while the other guys talk about Tom Brady's hair"

is a year and a half too late. Sure that advertisement is obvious to us, but think about all of those people who switched over to the score on those days when mac first started there again. Mac brought with him a lot of new score listeners, and some of those listeners(like me) had no idea about M&H or anything else about the score, that would have been a golden opportunity for those advertisements.

They are beyond brutal. The only ESPN employee I would love to hear have a show is the girl on with Colin on Sportsnation. She kinda says whatever the hell she wants and gets away with it and I like it.

I don't believe that Mike North wrote that. They are definitely his "billboard" thoughts but he didn't write it.

Sorry Kirk, north got basically fired because he cost more than he was worth, just as Mac will be down the road. The trouble these guys cause isn't worth it to any business, let alone a dying one.

I fail to see how his comments are so "whoa!" worthy.

Maybe the op is actually the author and is looking for a little publicity?

You must have forgot about the number of TV, print & billboard ads the Score ran back in the day. North is correct in his assertion that WSCR no longer promotes the station.

Who the fuck actually gives two flying skull fucks what North's opinion is anymore with the exception of his brain dead wife?

This is the clown who fucked up a decent gig for himself by not taking a decent wage he deemed beneath him, who layed down with his ass in the air for a convicted felon because he wanted to prove to his old job he could make it without them, whose first morning show was an obtuse cluster fuck of epic preportions, whose "dream gig" of a gambling site crashed and burned, and whose second attempt at a morning show was a fucking fiasco. Tell me exactly why anybody would listen to this mental cripple and rub their stubble in thought at anything he said?

Mike North is the definition of a washed up has been who doesnt know when to frollic out into pasture. He's shilling his fucking over priced swamp land and trowing in the fucking blue prints as a cavat to some fucking hollow headed, brain oprphan stupid enough to actually place a bid. He doesnt understand that nobody takes him seriously anymore, and with the exeption of one hot year in his life, did ANYBODY actually give two shits about him. His new Fox gig will crash and burn, just like the trail of hot dirrhea he has squirted oput since he left the Score, and what, now that this genius is now "national" in little fuck towns nobody has heard of Mitch Rosen should just drop everything and listen to him? Sheesh.

This guy is a fucking nuclear, butt hurt bomb, and in his wake is leaving little fallout particles of his stupidity in every place he can open his wind bag and gust.

Does Coke & Kleenex need to advertise & promote their business? Every business needs to advertise & promote their business. Norths point that ESPN is a more recognizable brand that is difficult for WSCR to compete with is correct.

Are you referring to Michelle Beadle, UMN? Michelle's the lovechild of Cameron Diaz & WWE's Trish Stratus who co-hosts that "SportsNation" show weekday afternoons on ESPN2HD w/ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd. Beadle, who I believe was an ESPN Radio New York "SportsCenter" anchor prior to "SportsNation", also co-hosts "Winners Bracket" Saturday afternoons when there's no college football on ABC.

All I can say is since Mike North,Chet Coppock & Mike Murphy have left the airwaves, my overall sportsradio hours of listening has also dropped. I have soured on North since joining this board as a lot of people on here make a lot of sense with their views on him.
He still was excellent "car crash" radio like him or not. I missed Murph's CUBS opinions this summer. You could feel the Blue blood bleeding through the airwaves with his rants.
I just feel Chet should have a job because he is just a solid pro.

Of cousre they do, but its two different types of brands in two different demographics. The Score is a Chicago radio station that caters to Chicago sports fans, ESPN has a national audience to go along with its very own group of nationally syndicated sport stations/ channels. The Score, and who they are trying to reach, the casual sports fan here who follows Chicago teams, not only does an excellent job, but go above and beyond reaching their core audience. They do enough in house asdvertising to accomidate who it is they are trying to reach. They dont have the money to compete with ESPN, and smartly stick to a financially feasable script. What this has to do with Coke is beyond me.
Terry's Guy wrote:

Because they have their own cable channel(s)? How the fuck can the Score compete with that? Billboards on busses sure as fuck isnt gonna dent those who want to listen to ESPN. Nort, in all truth, has no business trying to dictate whatever bullshit delusion his shit covered mind gleeks out considering he hasnt done not one successful thing since he was jettisoned off of the Score. Its like asking a war vet who had his left arm amputated to get a perfect score on Guitar Hero.Mike Nort has to pay to be in the Times, he isnt on the writing staff, hes a fucking advertiser, and he considers that something when anybody can fucking do it. His new show, of which I listened to only a couple minutes before I had sympathy on my fucking brain, sounds like a fucking public access quality feed where he is given a topic, college football, and is off talking about other things. He is a complete failure, and the only person who thinks he has a voice in this wonderful town is him, and only him.

And when the Fox gig fails, he will have yet another excuse that his show wasnt given enough time to find an audience, not realising that audience sure as fuck wants to stay hidden from him. He's the radio version of Lacey Peterasen, and lord knows there isnt a big blue drum to shove his fucking ego into.

I might be mistaken, but I think you're conflating two dead Peters(e/o)ns.

Of course not! Most people are like Boilermaker Rick and after sampling all cola and tissue products, make the choice to use the best ones.

Exactly what promotion does Goofy North think THE SCORE is supposed to do?
What sports fan in this town does not know of THE SCORE?
