Always remembered the cutaway to his production company logo with him taking the page out of the typewriter and it forming a C at the end of the A-Team

http://www.theinsider.com/news/3368118__A_Team_21_Jump_Street_Producer_Stephen_J._Cannell_Passes_Away

Stephen J. Cannell, the producer of iconic television shows such as "The A-Team," "21 Jump Street" and "The Rockford Files" has died. He was 69.

Cannell's family tells "The Insider," "Stephen J. Cannell passed away at his home in Pasadena on Thursday evening due to complications associated with melanoma. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones.

"Aside from being a legendary television producer and prolific writer, Stephen was also a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Cannell is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Marcia, their three children, Tawnia, Chelsea and Cody and three grandchildren. Stephen was the pillar of strength within his family and he touched everyone he met. He will be most deeply missed.

"The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or The International Dyslexia Association. Details regarding his memorial service will be released."

The prolific Emmy-winning producer was also the author of 16 novels. Having overcome dyslexia, he was a spokesperson on the condition and advocated on behalf of those with learning disabilities.

So, does he count as the third part of the celebrity death trifecta? Rather anticlimactic if so ...

That's too bad. He's been behind some of my favorite tv shows. I loved The Rockford Files and A Team.

That's too bad. Stephen J. Cannell was quite a good writer & produced some really good action series over the years. I remember he & Universal Television collaborated on "The Rockford Files", "Black Sheep Squadron" & "The A Team" during the '70s & '80s, and his own production company produced & distributed the likes of "The Greatest American Hero", "Hardcastle & McCormick", "Riptide", "Hunter" & "21 Jump Street" to name a few of his many series. I thought I read somewhere that Cannell was from our area.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Also, I thought you should know that I happen to have a learning disability myself.

NO.....

I just read they were talking about doing a 'big screen version' of 21 Jump Street, and Johnny Depp insisted that he do a cameo as Tom Hanson:

"They'll find me somewhere hoarding jars of peanut butter and shaking in my underpants." said Depp.

I mentioned "The Rockford Files" in an earlier post. NBC was reportedly looking into reviving the classic cop series with Dermet Mulroney in the role that James Garner played from 1974-80 and also became a very rich man after he sued Universal for royalties every time the series is rerun somewhere in the world. Unfortunately, the "Peacock" didn't pick up Mulroney's version this fall...

Thank god on that one. That is one show that no one should ever remake. I'm waiting for the full box set to be released, if it hasn't already been.

+ 100000000000

NO ONE is gonna do it justice. James Garner is so underrated. He was great in Maverick too, and Mel Gibson pissed all over that.

I feel like tearing a piece of paper out of a typewriter and letting it float to the ground... Just can't find a typewriter.

I was sorry to read this. He knew a lot about action shows (wrote & guest starred in Renegade)

I think in an interview once,he said he got his start writing for Jack Webb in Dragnet,RIP.
