He was a really bad OF, I hate to say. Can't have a slow white, bad defensive OF, with no power playing a corner position.

Is it just me, or does Matt Murton's Beard's avatar remind anyone of Bagels?

he wasn't busted...he was a prospect...he made his MLB debut with us..

That's a good idea but I don't believe bigfan will allow it. You remember Karl Pagel, don't you?

I new you'd be posting this.

When Suzuki set the record, the regular season consisted of 130 games. Since then, the season has been extended by 14 games and Murton was playing in his 142nd game of the season.

I'd like to lock whistler, kujoe, and jimmypasta in a room with a couple of advanced algebra books and then watch their heads explode.

I'm pretty sure a paint by numbers might do the trick

If he winds up in Pittsburgh, will you please go there forever? Maybe you can arrange for them to acquire every shitty Cub that ever got shipped out because he was better at getting teabagged on North Halsted than he was at actually playing baseball. Go worship Bobby Hill and STFU!

If this doesn't scream asterisk, I don't know what does.

Remember how the Cubs would send Patterson down and he would tear the shit out of that AAA pitching. And we'd say "He's so ready" and then they'd bring him up and he'd go all 4 for 30 or some damn thing and take some bad routes and make bonehead baserunning plays. Then the Cubs would send him back down to AAA and he'd tear the shit out of that AAA pitching and the miserable cycle of Next Step Suck would begin anew.

it doesnt "scream" asterisk...maybe a small one...but still this is no small feat...dont forget, the season aint over...he did it in the 140th game...so only 10 more games than ichiro...take 1.5 hits per game on average, ur talking only 15 hits behind ichiro after 130 games

and either way, still over 200 hits for the year...very impressive, yet doesnt surprise me, as he was focused on his craft since 2007 when he was squeezed for playing time, and he remained resolute to be a great player

also impressive is that he is a right-handed hitter...his total after 130 games was probably a record for RH hitters there, as left-handers usually are the better pure hitters in general

either way, he has the record, and like it or not, this season wasnt 142 games just for him...it is 142 games every year and will be thereafter, so his record will be the number that needs be topped now

That's what whistler wants. A bunch of prospects who fail when they come to town, but get sent down, tear it up, and come back to fail again. If that doesn't happen forever, he feels that Hendry is a bully who runs good players out of town.

So Murton is pretty much as good a hitter as Ichiro?

You make my head hurt. Japanese baseball is comparable AAA. Murton setting a record for hits in a season is akin to Crash Davis setting the career minor league home run record. Murton may have been working on his "craft", but he was bad at it at the Major League Level. That you cannot get this through your thick skull is not my problem, it's yours. Go back to worshipping shitty players and live in your unicorn filled fantasy land.

I've only watched one game of this Japanese baseball but I gotta figure the pitching isn't even quite AAA. Or else the Micah Hoffpauirs would be over there playing for bigger money.
Matt Murton blows on the MLB level whistler. You'll be a better poster when you understand this. Just like you tearing up your softball league doesn't make you ready for "A" ball, this don't mean that everyone was wrong about Matt Murton.

yes it isnt the major-leagues, but this is the second different "AAA league" that he's dominated

dont forget last year with the Rockies AAA team he set a record with like a 40 game hit streak or somethin...that was a baby step

now he goes to the other side of the world, new culture, new surroundings, new everything, and he does this? that's impressive

and its not like he's hitting a zillion homers where we could blame it on small parks, let's say...he's hitting, period, which deserves a gold star anywhere

dont forget the reason he never had big numbers in the big leagues, is because he never had a chance to play

only in 2006 with the Cubs...in 07, Soriano suffocated him...in 08, Soriano suffocated him and the Bully traded him which broke his spirit that year...then in 09 the Rockies never gave him a chance even though they shoulda, with that hitters park and the injuries they had

so u see, give this guy a chance...I cant believe even a team like the Pirates or Royals couldnt use him, and he in turn could show what he can do

Did you ever consider that his work ethic (or lack of) was recognized, and that's why he wasn't playing regularly?

Hes a mediocre major league player. And you are a dope

the numbers u posted didnt show he's mediocre...they showed exactly what I said...that he never has been given a chance and his work ethic never recognized

He played in 144 games in 2006 and 94 games in 2007. He lost playing time because he is an unathletic corner outfield with no power. You are still a dope.

I new you'd be posting this.

When Suzuki set the record, the regular season consisted of 130 games. Since then, the season has been extended by 14 games and Murton was playing in his 142nd game of the season.

oh well that explains it... the japanese clearly don't consider murton's 142 game hit record a serious threat to ichiro's 130 game hit record, because it's been proven time and time again if you're a foreigner coming to dethrone sadahiru oh's 55HR record, they simply will NOT pitch to you. at all. no matter what. ask tuffy rhodes and shit who's the other one... something escobar? alex escobar?

edit: alex cabrera. that's it. they both were allowed to tie the record but that's it.
