Best use of an '85 bear on the radio:

Tom Thayer as color man - he provides quality analysis of events in the game that are hard to describe on the radio.

As long as Devin Hester is not returning a kick for a touchdown, in which case he's giggling like a school girl that's just been tickled.

On a side note - most excessive promotion for a mediocre segment: the award goes to Critics @ XL

The Jose Oqendo Award
Thumbs Up tie to Marc Silverman and Carmen DeFalco. These guys have done just about everything for ESPN 1000 this year. Both started in the nine to noon slot only to be delegated to weeknights and be pushed aside for West Coast NBA regular season games that have no meaning for Chicago Bulls fans. Both guys covered for Mac and Harry after their mini-summer vacation. Carmen 's done some beat reporting and Silvy had to get his ass up on the morning after the company party on last minute notice because Sean Salisbury didn't call in to say he was too sick to not show up. Team players. They play all positions of the field. (Sound the gay horn?) These guys deserve the Jose Oquendo thumbs up award.

Worst use of Talent
Goes to ESPN1000's use of one Jonathan Hood. It's unbelieveable that one of the most entertaining personalities at ESPN1000 still doesn't have a full time gig.

This is what happens when hardly no one e-mails in their awards. They continue to push it to get people to write something in. Mac even had to come on here to get some stuff in. I'm betting a majority of stuff will come from here, but I could be wrong.

I'll throw my vote in for JD being the best Beat Reporter. I like JD reporting the Bears. I like JD discussing the Bears when he fills in as a host. What impresses me the most is he doesn't mix the two. That is, when he's on the beat he Reports the news. He doesn't let whatever biases he may have effect his delivery. He's come a long way since he pissed off the NAACP with his comments about LaTroy.

I meant in general, not the end of the year bonanza. I thought they were going to shitcan the segment a while back, but apparently not.

A few for the awards...

Titanic Award
- Salisbury & Rosenbloom (the show, the hosts, the decision, it's a clean sweep.)

The rest...

Worst Use of Talent
- having Bruce Levine cover the Bulls

Worst Bears Coverage
- Chet & Mongo

Bad Radio Bits
- the Brian Swan fantasy garbage

Best Use of Talent
- Jurko on the nascar show

Best Bulls Coverage
- KC Johnson

Good Radio Bits
- B Stories with Harry

I second that. He does one hell of a show and I'm sure all NASCAR fans appreciate the Good Kid's work.

Maybe it's because he gets to catch up on his sleep from 5-7, that he's so "on" at 7....

Biggest Blunder by an On-Air Personality

Letting Woodridge Ryan on the air. It was bad enough that he hijacked both S&C's show and now MJH's show with his emails, but now for the love of good we have to listen to his high pitched screechy voice. We know you love the on air love Ryan, step away from the computer and the telephone for a month or two. Thank you.

Worst executive decision:
Getting rid of Marty Jones on the show that is billed as "the #1 afternoon drive." Well how can it be an afternoon drive and you don't tell us the traffic report? Lots of MJH faithful listeners do so while on the road stuck on the Damn Ryan or other bottleneck expressways. Listening to the antics of MJH along with traffic times from Marty always made the drive better. And tell what exactly have we gained with that whole extra minute every hour of the show????????/

Best coverage of Chicago sports media

Redacted- Don't go to The Trib, Sun-Times, or Daily Herald for that coverage. Ted Cox, Ed Sherman and Teddy Greenstein just go through the motions to collect their check. They are all bitter writers looking to get what they consider better beats. Robert Feder doesn't consider sports media worthy of much coverage. Come to Redacted to get the best coverage of Chicago sports media.

Worst Radio Show in Chicago

Mike North Morning Show- When you consider he makes 1.5 million dollars and can't beat the Mike & Mike morning show it can't be anybody else. I thought he was Mr. Chicago? Well acording to him only. The show is all about him and his drinky nights with his meat ball friends. He has ignorant and uninformed thought on politics. His sports thoughts are dumb as well. All he is is loud and stupid. Every one who listens to his show is dumber for doing so.

That decision was your Hero's.

Mac has wanted to get rid of traffic for a long while now because he said that they didn't do right by not giving him the traffic on the Bishop Ford.

How about jasonfromCHATHAM and Linda S in a confined space discussing the issues of Future Mail and Afternoon Drive :P

My favourite traffic reports were when Marti would forget where she was supposed to be (probably working on her cannolli ice cream) and Mac would fill in with a succinct, "Traffic Sucks".

Most Professional and Underrated Show
Silvy and Carmen get bumped at the beginning of the year and their replacement doesn't even resemble a sports radio show. They fill in when ever they are needed. When Sean can't make it, when Rosenbloom can't make it, and sack gate. They do thier job and they are good at it.

Worst Dressed
Tie. Harry Teinowitz or Fred Huebner

Biggest Radio Whore
Another tie. Harry or Jen Jen

Worst Featured Artist
Sheryl Crowe

Best Production
Mac, Jurko & Harry. The weaves, lead ins, clips and soundbites that are used are great. They are always funny and relevant.

not sure where this would fit in, but how about this; not having dusty baker address the media after he was canned.

Thumbs up to the 9-Noon show for listening to MJH and ditching some terrible segments, including "Men are Pigs, Thursday". I can't say that I really enjoyed Sean saying things like "She has tremendous upper body strength" ad nauseum.
Thumbs down to whoever green-lit that segment to begin with.

Best Pre & Post Game Show: TNT's Inside the NBA with Ernie Johnson, Chuck Barkley, Kenny Smith. This show is hilarious.

Best Local Sunday Wrap-up Show: Fox's Final Word with Corey McPherrin and Tommy Waddle. Win or lose, they keep a lose attitude and don't treat sports like it's the end of the world.

Best Local Female Sports Reporter: Fox's Jill Carlson. Comcast Sports Net's Kerry Sayers deserves honorable mention. I cannot stand that bitch Gail Fischer.

Best Play-by-Play Color Combo: Joe Buck / Troy Aikman Marv Albert / Steve Kerr

Worst Play-by-Play / Color Combo: Ken "Hawk" Harrelson / Darren Jackson. White Stocking games are a nap-fest thanks to these knuckleheads.

Media's Biggest Boobs: Dan Dierdorf, Joe Theisman, Slapdick Silverman, Michael Irvin, Sean Salisbury, Mike Murphy, Jessie Rogers. Is there anyway to get all of these guys on the same flight and crash the plane into a mountain?

Biggest Boob: F. Constanza. Is there anyway ban him from the site?

General

Worst Beat Reporter: 1. William Jackson 2. Bruce Levine When was the last time William Jackson asked a player a question? He continues to tell players to "talk about..." rather than forming a question for the player. W. Jackson breaks an important reporter rule whenever his interview wraps up their thought by saying 'ok' before starting with his next "talk about...". Both W. Jackson and B. Levine are always stumbling over their words.

Coolest Chicago Media Member: Dan McNeil. It's so cool that D. McNeil answers questions on Redacted as honestly as he can. He gives out his voice mail number and also interacts with listeners during remotes.

Biggest On-Air Whiner(s): (tie) Slapdick Silverman, Mike Murphy. Jessie Rogers.

Best Executive Decision: Q101 for canning Mancow.

Worst Executive Decision: ESPN Radio 1000's decision to take away ticket window Thursday (how else am I going to get to a Bull game?).

Best Online Contributor: The Gridiron Assassin. Dude is hilarious.

Best Online Daily Read: (tie) Cnnsi.com's 'Truth & Rumors', fark.com, theheckler.com

Newspaper

Best Print Sports Coverage: Chicago Sun-Times.

Best Columnist: Jay Mariotti. On a personal level, I hate this punk. However, he is the only columnist that I read on a regular basis.

Worst Columnist: Mike Downey.

Best Print Story: Teddy Greenstein's "Sports Talk Radio Fueds"

Best Promotion: Howard Stern giving fans 2 days of free Sirius Radio. Baba Booey's Roast was hilarious!!

Radio

Most Generous to its Listeners: ESPN Radio 1000. The Score gives next to nothing to their listeners - no games, contests... etc. The Score also doesn't really seem to care if remote visitors can even hear their programs.

Best National Sports Talk Show: Mike & Mike. Especially Monday's after a Sunday full of football.

Best Local Radio Beat Reporter: Jeff Dickerson.

Funniest Local Sports-Talk Personality: Harry Tienowitz. Terry Boers.... bycrackie!

Best Sports-Talk Show 'Driver': Dan McNeil of Mac, Jurko & Harry. This show is next to unlistenable when he is suspended, on vacation or sick. With him, it's the best show on AM radio.

Best Sports Talk Show: Mac, Jurko & Harry.

Worst Sports Talk Show: The Mike North Morning Show.

Best Non-Sports Talk Show: Since H. Stern isn't on anymore, it has to be 'Coast to Coast AM' with George Noore.

Dumbest Name for a Radio Segment: Future Mail. This makes no sense. I don't understand how a game name has nothing to do with the game. These emails have already been read. What's the future part of the game?? No wonder listeners can never win.

Best Sports Talk Radio Segment: Boers & Bernstein: "Friday Fung": Dumb Arguments - also - Daredevil or Dumbass

Worst Sports Talk Radio Segment: Mac, Jurko & Harry: "Who Do You Love?" Who cares if Bob from Naperville thinks the Steeler will cover over the Brown. The change to make it more of a contest between the listeners and the show hosts was a good idea but mainly because the change simply made the segment shorter.

Best Radio Sidekick: (tie) Howard Stern's High Pitch Eric / Harry Tienowitz. What can I say... I think fat, high pitch voice guys are funny!

You just said a couple of days ago that emails are probably redundant.
So what's the use of emailing if you don't think they're any good, and MJH don't hardly read any of them anymore. You're probably right. Take Five "Algae-sucking fish" at the top of the hour - followed by Jurko describing the best foods to eat prior to pinching out a colorful 'yule log' at 6:20.

Pick a lane Burr Ridge Brian....

what channel is that dahl guy on again?

Well done Linda. You hit it on the head with William Jackson. Doesn't he seem nervous when he interviews the Bears. You're right with his "talk about" and his "ok" after every question is answered. Plus it seems like he just wants to be buddies with the players instead of being a reporter and getting stuff that fans want to know. He Anoys the shit out of me too Linda.
