The Bear is 4-1.

Never in a million years would I have predicted that. The Packers are all sorts of hurty, the Lions are being the Lions, and the Vikes are in some weird "they should be awesome but they suck" zone.

Somebody please explain to me what the hell is going on?

God wants Lovie Smith to be the coach forever. Just when you think he is out...... they pull him back in.

The better question to me is even if the Bears make the playoffs, will it matter? Their brand of football has been so nauseatingly incompetent that it provides little entertainment value. I never thought a winning Bears team could kill my love for the game, but this group of phlegmatic, lurching nimrods may accomplish that heretofore impossible feat.

Don't go overboard with it. The run defense has been fantastic, the LB play has been incredible and they are back to a hard hitting defense. The problem, as we discussed, is that I see this defense as unsustainable beyond this year. I think it's a last hurrah from an old group and I have no confidence in Angelo to adequately fill the holes.

The last couple days Mac and Meat have talked about how the Bears are not a good team. They've even suggested that if they go 7-1, they still won't know if they're a good team. If a 7-1 team isn't good, what is the definition of a "good team"? The Bears certainly appear better than most teams. If you're saying that's because all teams are bad as has been suggested on today's show, maybe you should start asking yourself why pro football is your favorite sport.

Oh, it's not "rong". Obviously there's been a tradition of busting balls with signatures that predates my membership to this forum. However, your linking of several unrelated quotes in a feeble attempt to make me look silly is something new. I kind of like my little pastiche as a sort of "best of immessedup", if you will. I guess we're setting new precedents here at CSFMB today. Huzzah!

The problem with Bears analysis this year is that people are trying to define them based on "good" teams in years past. They need to be evaluated based on the NFL in 2010. The NFL in 2010 in which they are 4-1 with wins over previously believed 'good teams' in the Cowboys and Packers.

They are in fact, at the very least, a pretty decent team. 5 games into the season I'm very pleased with that.

It almost seems to me that the city of Chicago is never, ever content with what they have in terms of sports teams. The Bears are 4 - 1. Why does it matter how they got to this point? Does it really matter if a game is won by 30 points or 3 points?

Rest assurred that if my Pats beat the Bears this year by one point I will be delighted. But if they lose by one point I will be as disappointed as if they lost by 20.

I am in a jovial mood, so let us discuss this in a friendly manner. I believe the quotes I extracted were all from the same thread...in fact, I believe they are from consecutive posts of yours.

That being the case, anyone who is interested can read the thread and see how it played out, see exactly what everyone said, and decide for themselves what the intent was and who looks stupid. Instead you created a signature with my responses to several different and unrelated posts. As you can see, I can do the same thing.

immessedup17 wrote:
In that thread, while stating you are not speculating on the topic or the discussion at hand, you continuously state things you believe to be true...without having no knowledge of. Quite possibly the same thing you accused others of doing. I find this disheartening.

Let's look at your cut and paste job, shall we?

I'm not speculating about anything ... (This refers to the financial condition of Facebook. I wasn't speculating and am not speculating. I said multiple times in the thread that I had no idea. It's you, Ugie, Rick, and Don Tiny who are convinced of Facebook's great profits.) Besides that, I don't think the amount is significant ... (This was an answer to one of several people who seemed to believe that allowing Paypal to handle $100 is okay but using their services for $4000 makes one a douchebag or that ebay fucking someone out of ten dollars is no big deal.) I think some of you must own stock in Paypal ...(This was simply a commentary on the vociferous defenses of a company that is, at the very least, questionable from an ethical standpoint.) Maybe they are profitable ...(Finally, this was me admitting that, once again, I had no clue as to the financial condition of said enterprise)

So, as you can see, the quotes are totally unrelated. So how about we grab a Shamrock shake and toast some terrorists? :lol: :lol:

Ugie, maybe this is more the case. Because this is the camp that I am in.

I'm exstatic the Bears are 4-1, I really am. Thats better than I thought they would be. But I am still very much skeptical. So I suppose my thoughts are, "Its great the Bears are 4-1, but prove it."

Given the way the schedule shakes out, I would be dissapointed if this team wasn't 7-1 when they faced the Vikes on 11/14.

I agree with this at the end of the season but it's not hard to forecast a 7-1 Bears team going 2-6 to end the season and letting us all down(besides me who loves it when the Bears lose so I can be right).

You can't help but be excited by the Bears start this year especially given the dominating position they are in right now to make the playoffs. The breaks have clearly gone their way and even a pedestrian .500 record the rest of the year likely gets them into a playoffs that is still wide open with no dominant team.

They suck, they should be 2-3 if it wasn't for a ridiculous rule that will be changed in the offseason and another team giving them the game by commiting 18 penalties.

Throw in the fact that the Bears opponents are 5-14 on the season and it isn't hard to figure out that this record is a mirage and the Bears are frauds.

6-10 is still a possibility.

This is the key point. The NFL is not stacked with super teams this year and every team can win every single week. Maybe the Bears stumble through the regular season, winning ugly, and then put it together in the playoffs... I will put down the kool-aid now.

Exactly. Look at the 'best' teams in the NFC right now. Every winning team has 'lucky' wins and What if wins where they would be two losses down. It just feels magnified since we are in Chicago and talk about this team ad naseum.

The 2006 Bears started that season 9-1 with games against:

@Packers- W
Lions- W
@Vikings- W
Seahawks- W
Bills- W
@Cardinals- W
49ers- W
Dolphins- L
@Giants- W
@Jets- W

Not many powerhouse teams in there, but they were considered "good"

So if your Pats beat the Bears by one point but look incredibly incompetent while doing so, will you still be utterly delighted? If so, it sounds like you are more a fan of winning than you are of the sport. In contrast, my allegiance to the Bears comes to me through my love of football more generally. To me, the sport has an unparalleled aesthetic beauty from which I derive great joy. When my team fails to play at a minimal level of competence, it makes it very hard for me to derive any joy from their performance, even if they win. I have certain expectations for the way professional football should look and should be played. The Bears simply haven't met those expectations for me in several games this year.

Fair point, and well-taken. I would propose, however, that the Pats would have to be completely incompetent to only win by one. 8)
