I have to imagine that, in this day and age, the actual publication sales are down. Who needs to subscribe to it now with the volume of stuff we have on the internet? NFL.com, Profootballtalk.com, ESPN.com, Yahoo.com, reporter's twitter accounts, deadspin, and a lot of other NFL and fantasy football sites. By the time you get PFW in the mail, a ton of rapes, shootings, wife beatings, murders, sexual harrasements have happened in the NFL. Not to mention the boring stuff like injury updates and regular football info that we all want to hear as well.

Why do you need to buy a copy of Profootball weekly? You know where Hub has failed? His website. They don't do a good job breaking stories as it happens like the others I have mentioned. How many times do you hear of "Profootball weekly" breaking a story via their website? Never. You hear of all of the other sites doing this.

I know he syndicates a TV show and radio show. I've heard Hub say he's in a lot of markets with those shows, so that's probably some decent money, but I don't know why anybody would subscribe to his weekly magazine or buy it on the newsstands. Hub once dominated the market with his publication in the 80s and 90s. I think he hasn't gotten with the times and I'm guessing it's hurting him in this internet age.

Hub also missed the boat. Mike Florio got his website endorsed by NBC and he's a part of their broadcast on Sunday where they pimp his site. Because of that exposure, Profootballtalk.com is the website people go to over Hub's I'm sure. And all of the other sites I've mentioned probably kill his website as well. Hub should have tried to get married to NBC. That would have been huge for him.

Hub mentioned yesterday that his is the #1 publication for draft information by a wide margin with Kiper being behind him.

What exactly does that mean? How could Hub say that? Doesn't ESPN just put Kiper's projections up on their website for free? I'm pretty sure that would mean he beats Hub's "Pay me for it" projections. "Free" always beats "pay me". Plus I know they do segments with him on ESPN tv going over every position leading up to the draft. I'm pretty sure I can say without a doubt that more football fans get their draft info from Kiper than Hub's PFW. When you have the powerful ESPN TV, ESPN radio and ESPN.com outlets I think it's pretty safe to say that. Wouldn't Hub have to get the web views on Kiper's projections page to say this with confidence? How would he know those numbers? That's just the website like I said. He's all over everyone of ESPN's properties doing draft stuff.

I for one don't give a shit about draft talk.

I would hope that nobody would ever want Mel Kiper behind them......unless someone is into that sort of thing.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/

I just checked PFW.com. They give you some content for free. It's really nothing. Then Hub charges for an "online subscription" which is the same content as the hard copy.

Like I said, with so much quality free NFL content on the internet, who the hell is paying for this? Why would you? Has to be way down from what Hub had in 80s and 90s.

I could be wrong, but I didn't hear him say that. I just heard him give the exclaimer that his company competes with Mel.

1. He's still treating it like a publication, with a deadline, and a tangible product (paper or pdf file.)
2. By-the-minute tweets, whether he actually uses twitter or not, isn't part of the equation.

Nevermind that as an old turd, I prefer things in readable format... Times change and he needs to keep abreast.

Of course, these other places you mention get their revenue streams from advertising, whereas Hub gets a considerable stream through subscriptions and sales through newstand/bookstore distribution channels. One can argue that the newspapers, also trying to go this route, are taking a beating.

I subscribe to Baseball Digest. It is on it's last days, also. That is sad. To stay alive,it has cut publishing to 6 times a year (used to be 12) & no longer is in "digest" size.
I don't even read it most of the time. Just something from my childhood that I thought would still be neat to get in the mail.

I distinctly heard him say that they do compete and that PFW was the #1 source for draft info with Mel being behind his.

ESPN charges a fee for most of Kiper's information.

People buy NFL draft magazines? Seriously?

I understand the fantasy draft stuff, and I understand season previews, but I can't understand why anyone would pay money to learn information that won't help them with anything and will be pretty much useless within 72 hours of it being useful.
