There's a track produced by Primo ft. Rakim, Nas, KRS-1 and Kanye. Although Yeezy doesn't belong there flowing in that cypher dude has serious talent. Imo this is the most talent ever in a hip hop joint. The Anthem is sick though 8)

I think I'm one of the bigger Kanye supporters in the world. He just doesn't belong flowing on a track with Rakim, Nas and KRS

October 15, 2010:
Today's selection takes us back to 2001 and Big Pun's posthumous album Endangered Species (his final LP). The track is called "Fire Water" and features Raekwon, Fat Joe, Armageddon, and Pun himself. This is one of the SICKEST ciphers you will ever hear on an album. Make special note of Joe and Pun's flows, as they absolutely killed the joint.

Fire Water

There will be very little West Coast music in this thread. I might throw some Cube out there. Maybe a little Cypress, Alkaholiks or Pharcyde, but not much.

I find the whole coast separation to be pointless.

I agree. St. Louis, or as I like to call it, "The Lou", is where it is at.

I don't really think it is though. Different regions produce different sounds. It's kinda subjective and depends on the individual though. Personally, West Coast music has too much bouncy G-funk like what Tha Dogg Pound and WC were doing in the 90s. I don't fucking wanna dance. One exception is Alchemist, who is from Cali. I love most of his beats. DJ Muggs was awesome with Cypress Hill's stuff too.

Midwest music (like Chicago and Cleveland) uses too much synth and heavy bass. I love Traxster from Chicago, who produced most of the Chicago classics from Twista and others, but the beats are too "busy".

Based on my sensibilities, I prefer dark gritty beats - sinister piano and violin samples, etc...which is why I love a lot of what Rza does. Rza's beats are very dark.

Ya those are stereotypes.

There's gritty rap from California and fruitty rap from Brooklyn.

I know a guy who has missed out on a lot of good stuff cuz he's strictly east coast

Yeah, see I agree with you that you at least have to listen to some new things. You shouldn't be strictly anything.

For me, I just look for a certain sound and I typically search in the places where I think I'll most likely find that sound.

Hip-Hop from the frozen vaults of Wyoming

I am often faced with the question of what it means to be a Hip-Hop artist from Wyoming.

"WYOMING?”
“There’s Hip-Hop in Wyoming?”
“Where is that?”
"Damn, are there folks of color up there?"
"What you rap about?
“Riding horses in the street?"
“Not getting shot by a rancher?”
"Wow, isn’t that like the most conservative state in the country?"
"Wyoming… really?"
"Fascinating…"

East Coast bias? I am disappoint :(

West Coast underground hip hop is 2nd to none especially over the last decade

Good song selection today. Haven't heard it in a looooong time. There was actually a time when Joe was nasty on the mic. 1st and especially 2nd albums are outstanding
