I remember Atmosphere came here around the time Overcast dropped don't remember if it was before or just after. It was a small venue and after the show Slug kicked it with us and jumped in the aftershow cypher. Good times

I was high as hell but he ripped it up from what I remember. More of a talking style of freestyle at the time.

Eyedea is nasty with the freestyle. I think he won a scribblejam back in the days

I wonder how Sage ended up at a party at UIC. That was right around all the scribble jam madness.

sjboyd's list of Hip Hop that he has loaded to his laptop (and anyone who has met me will confirm that I am extremely white)

Run D.M.C.: Raising Hell
Public Enemy: It takes a nation of millions
Jay-Z: Black Album
Every N.E.R.D. Album (is that really Hip Hop?)

In reality, I'm not a big Hip Hop fan, but I like funk, blues, soul, and Motown (whatever the hell that classifies as)

My brother bought the first couple scribble jam DVD's. Anyone who is even a remote fan of hip hop should find a way to watch those. Eyedea is the best off the top Ive ever heard. EVER. That guy Juice from Chicago was just as good at non-written material, but Eyedea plays with his flow while he's ripping you apart.

Ive heard this story about how Eyedea won a Source Freestyle contest sponsored(?) by Diddy. After Eyedea won (No contest), Diddy offered him a contract on the spot. Supposedly, Eyedea spit in his face. Literally.

Most of you are trying real hard to sound too edgy for MTV but not even edgy enough for Fuse FWIW. IMO

But, if I want to hear about battle rappers in Downers Grove, Beverly, Sauganash, Hegewisch or Bolingbrook, y'all are my guys.

I dont understand. Everyone we're talking about the last page or so is pretty famous for what they do or have done.

Lets just say I heard a lot of college students say remarkably similar things about bands with the "Athens Sound" in the mid 80's. (I almost was one...) The routine was to drop a favorite REM or B-52s song, love a few non-"commercial" acts, talk about the flow and freedom(freestyly) of alt rock...but with the same (seeming lack of) perspective. But to claim a high artistic love for the music....

You guys sound like the kids I was in college with...in the Reagan era, just with a different flavor music love.

There's no reason to be condescending. If it werent for people with underground taste there would be no Jimi Hendrix, no Sublime, and countless others. Everyone Ive talked about the last few pages has been doing their thing for over a decade now. Im not trying to claim some high artistic expression, but I do know it takes a considerable amount of time and practice to be able to coherently rhyme in a free conscious matter while on top of a beat.

This music is a little more redeeming than anything the B-52's ever put out.

He referenced the B-52's as cutting edge at some point in their career.

wtf are you talking about? in high school i was an AP/honors student whose counselors who said he could do anything he wanted to in life. sucking at rap/ping and being a superhumanbackpacker falls under that umbrella.

i'm re-uploading my three EPs from last year (supreme pizza, sinicalypse is bomberman!, and morton grove's finest: a freestyle history 2009-2037) so, board friend, if you really want to let me know how much i suck just say the word and i'll link them here. as aceyalone told me directly and pharoahe monch did indirectly, wow... i can say some shit. but holy shit is my style god-awful. lack of confidence... maybe partially due to the fact that when i hang out on a msgboard with a bunch of middleaged superfans i get lambasted by "board friends"

in the big picture tho, i'm starting to be OK with my ~70% wackness (delivery and style are worth way more than words, lamentably) to the point where i've advertised this shit. when goff was hittin me up in bourbonnais 09 all "whaddup" i hit him off with a cd of some frees/writtens and welp, suffice to say we're not facebook friends these days.

here this song is actually good... i have trouble with writtens cuz even tho i been freein/rappin for ~12+ years i still have trouble transposing even a modicum of flow/delivery/cadence/diction/rhythm/stayin-on-beat/whatever from the head to the paper. the conundrum is that like, when i write on paper then try to apply it to a beat i have no sense of rhythm. when i free, well, i'm off the doming it.... and even tho the dome can be golden (i've had some moments where im like whoa OMFG wtf wtf just happened) i still have telltale signs of freein... you know certain verbal crutches like "i'mma let you know" and etc.

here you go >>> http://sinicalypse.kaen.org/06%20-%20no ... marvin.mp3 >>> there's a few score references in there.... and um, i made the beat too. it's some oldass marvin gaye song i got on some old 4x12" motown's greatest hits compilation i copped from record breakers on state street. i did some proper loopin... i found out whilst listening to some of my vinyldumps @ a friends spot with a proper stereo system that the fidelity from this ~80s home stereo system thru a little cable to my pc's speakers in aint the best fidelity... and it's a $20 best buy mic... but what the fuck ever i gots heart.

OH SHIT. i gotta find "you can't imagine how much fun i'm having not being atmosphere" for the jbilastrator.

/me would expect some "you suck" shit on replies, but i think the prolonged silence will speak volumes =P

you ever see the finals of scribble jam 97 when the finals was a 3-way between dose one, juice, and eminem? dose gets eliminated then it took like ~7 rounds to settle it. juice got the win, however, eminem went on to go to the rap olympics and won that one and dre was in the crowd and the rest is history.

HEY JBILASTRATOR, here from my bomberman shit i did a more exquiste cut up version of my atmosphere diss "you can't imagine how much fun i'm having not being atmosphere" --- turns out sluggo was the final boss. so i dropped some wackass free he had on one of the OG sage francis still sick... LPs or something and set it up so you can hear a "real pro" freestyle then you hear me drivin around in the car all high wiht a pocketrecorder where i just let it go... and it worked.

click here to download the mofo or if for some reason the url doesnt translate to the board click here to go to the parent directory and it's track #8 the stage 2 boss freestyle battle with the bomberman champion

oh btw should anyone listen to my other song, i referenced kid static. i served that motherfucker at his own show... he bigtimed me, then totally disrespected me in the middle of the crowd ("WHOOOOOOO ARE YOU"?" five times over real loud) when i tried askin hi how to break into the game and dared to ask about a collabo cuz we have a good mutual friend. anyways, later on some cats were beatboxin (it was jam one's birthday at some ill ass spot on north ave by.... handlebar/s? that bar with alll the bikes) and they invited rappers up on stage and i had been in ciphers all night so some cats were like GET UP THERE JIMMY so i did and kid static sees me and makes a beeline for me str8 through teh crowd (his name is moses, i think, so he parted the white sea) and he comes up grabs a mic and says he's gonna son me. off-mic i thank him for the comeuppins no matter what happens... all he had on me was that i'm pudgy and wearin expos gear (i had my camo vermont expos jersey on) so like, i just let it rip. i turned around the fat shit into i'm a freestyle heavyweight (you know, goodlife/projectblowed LA style) and like, i was in the zone so i dont remember it all, but i do remember setting up a ~4-6 bar punchline that ended up with a line like "you think you're a pimp fiddinta turn tricks on me, silly rabbit? the sad truth is that you're an overrated shit-talkin silly burrito" then i dropped the mic all 8-mile style went off stage got the high five homeys and hugs handshake circuit. within ~3-5 minutes someone comes up to me and says i have to go because "i'm intimidating their performers" and i'm like "ok lemme grab my 2pac record and im out" (i had the.... fuck.... i get around 12" stashed behind a speaker and nobody jacked it) and left the show.

the only cat who remembered it was sharkula, who saw me at some street festival at damen/division and was liek YO I KNOW YOU, YOU'RE THAT CAT WHO SERVED KID STATIC!!@"
