Jim Hendry must be a bully. If the job is Quade's,then announce it. Is he waiting for Joe Girardi? Give it to Quade, now. He took a lousy team and had them play winning baseball.
The Cubs need to get rid of A-Ram before 2011. His lolly gagging and "injuries" can no longer be tolerated. I would put him on my "go" list before Zambrano.

I agree, name Quade now. But I wish that Sandberg would not be added to the coaching staff.

What if it's Quade's job unless a manager with a World Series Championship makes a horrible decision to leave New York and manage the Cubs?

What is with this ground swell of support for Quade? He wins a few games with zero pressure and now he is the Man? Give me a break.

Hendry wanted nothing to do with Girardi in 2006. He had to be practically forced to grant him an interview. Now, all of a sudden, Joe is the bee's knees?
Hendry is just a reactive, small thinking, short-sighted halfwit. I hate the fucking Cub.

I agree. Mike Quade? Really? Why are the Cubs jacking around with Sandberg? He is the right guy at the right time & he deserves the job.

What are his qualifications for supposedly deserving this job? Toiling in the minors for 3 whole years? Pish-posh. I've said it before, I'll say it again; this team is screwed until they get out from under the rest of the shitty TribCo contracts. Might as well have Quade manage the stretch, and as soon as they can actually do what they want, Hendry, Quade, et al will be dumped, and they can really make a move to win.

Is it just me or is Girardi kind of a strange cat? I didn't notice it when he was managing the fish, so it could just be the yankee culture changing him. I think he has a little bit of mike singletary's weirdness in him.

The man knows the Cub culture (important), knows patience, has shown fire in the minors and he commands respect. What has Quade ever done??

The 3 facts I bolded are good qualifiers, and I agree. However, the idea of "Cub Culture" or any "culture" in professional sports is a giant load of horse shit. I buy the "sports culture" when we talk about college sports.

I personally hope he gets the job so I can laugh my ass off at everyone screaming that the hired him too soon, not enough experience, etc if he does not succeed.

Well, the thing is, I bet the last three (at least) Cubs managers would disagree in their private moments (and actually they've pretty much admitted to it in public). As fans, it doesn't mean much to us, but, as a manager of that team, day after day, there's more pressure on them than we think. If you don't agree, just look at Baylor, Dusty, and Lou in their last couple years, compared to when they first arrived. For whatever reason, managing this team wears on you.

As we've seen many, many times, both managers and players, even ones that come here with a rich pedigree, end up getting "Cubbed".

And that's one thing I like about Sandberg. He's one of a select few people to spend their entire career here, and not get Cubbed. As much as I hate the use of the phrase "he gets it" because it's so vague and so subjective, I can see where it applies here. I think Sandberg "gets it", and that's got to count for something.

Mr. R, who is the guy you want to be the next Cubs manager?

Here is my next question then. Due to a change in ownership, isn't it possible that there is a change in said "inside culture" that may actually be different from the previous "inside culture". Directives do come from the top down after all.

Could be, because after all let's face it, part of the "culture" the past decade has been overloaded contracts for lousy players. Bring in better players and you change the culture. So I'll grant you that, but, still this team is 0 for its last 9 playoff games, and some of those were pretty good teams. There's gotta be something more to that than just talent or bad luck, and it's not a billy goat curse. Call it whatever, a self-fulfilling prophecy, pressure to end 100 years of failing, some kind of preemptive meme, or call it a "culture", whatever. But Sandberg as a player seemed to be immune to it, and he is eager to come back for more.

Hiring Sandberg would show a long term commitment to turning things around and winning. Hiring Quade would show they're planning on being a punching bag for the next couple years. It should be a no brainer if not for Hendry.

Ricketts is a clown so nothing changes. It in fact perpetuates with Ricketts and his cheapness. Sandberg can overcome that by stressing the fundementals and being an example of someone that has done it by playing the game the right way. Quade just has no reference point of success. He is strictly a minor league type guy. If Ricketts does in fact hire Quade, the future is dim.

It honestly doesn't matter who is the manager as long as Hendry is choosing him. Christ, the pitching coach and the hitting coach are already in place. Given this scenario, Quade is the only choice. Who allows a team to be run like this?

Give it to Ryno and give him a contract that is one year longer than Hendry's. The whole Cub organization, as currently constructed, is a fucking clusterfuck. Give Sandberg the job and see how it pans out. This team is going nowhere for at least the next two seasons, regardless of the manager.

This is getting too deep. Its going to be Quade because they have no intention of doing anything else the next 2 years other than letting the bad contracts expire while giving the youth some experience. Winning is not high on the feasible priority list during that time. They are going to push the shit out of the youth movement and the Quade Squad "never give up/ hustle" style of play to sell some seats. There are virtually no expectations of him and he can be neatly disposed once this 2 year demolition is complete.

Anything positive that happens in these next 2 years aside from burning out the contracts will be an unexpected plus.

I doubt the fan base will accept this frankly. Makes sense, but I think it will backfire. You know Hendry is toast though. This bald fuck will be an easy scapegoat however along with Hendry.

Being the public relations disaster that Tom Ricketts has been since buying the Cubs, if he was smart he would hire Sandberg as Cubs Manager. Ricketts will need someone with whom the fans will be patient with & I cant imagine Cubs fans ever turning on Ryno. Quade on the other hand will have no honeymoon period with the fans. Fans will have no patience with him & if the Cubs get off to a bad start next year the fans will be all over him. Quade has no connection to the fans, & he has no fans.
As far as experience goes, does anyone really believe that Mike Quade knows more about baseball than Ryne Sandberg? Quade is a career journeymen coach who isn't worthy of the Cybs Managerial job.

If Ricketts or Hendry makes the decision based on who they feel the fans will like better they are even bigger dumbasses than they have shown to date. The only thing that matters is who has the best qualifications for the job.

Agreed. Hopefully Ricketts wakes the fuck up and gets Ryno hired and puts Quade back at third if he absolutely has to keep the guy. I just can't believe all this Quade support that seems to be building all based on meaningless games from the Cubs standpoint.

it's nice to see everyone agrees that Hendry is a dumb GM

when he came in he wanted to be the anti-McPhail...he hated the coyness of Lynch and mcPhail and the backroom way of doin things and he wanted to come out and show he was direct and honest and wanting to make trades

the problem is, all that pent-up rage turned into this momentum that made him into a big bad reckless dumb bully, and now he just runs on that inertia, but i think even he finally now realizes that he went too far with his Iowa bully mentality

Maybe the Cubs are going to go with an anonymous manager next season and just have Len Kasper read e-mailed orders from him to the players.

Jim from Berwyn says: Steal second Starlin!!

Actually I like Ronnie's email reads better. He usually gets confused after the first 3 words.

Sorry but I don't get the bully angle. Stupid yes but not a bully. I don't see rage either. Just a guy who was given to much money to play with and who is not near shrewd enough to know how to allocate it. Way to loyal to certain players, etc.
