Give me 1 example of a less convincing actor as an athlete.

Can't give that one to you. He was semi credible as an old man qb in Necessary Roughness. If you would have said Sinbad, then maybe. I got one, though. John C. Reilly in For Love of the Game. Still, he wasn't the main character.

we'll have to agree to disagree then; i've only really considered kevin costner to "look" the part. maybe if i really think about it, there may be others...tom berenger, maybe.

I won't quit until you agree with me that Danny McBride is the worst athlete to ever portray an athlete in a leading role. Just watch the scene where he's firing balls at BMWs in Chapter 5 for all of the proof you need.

Other bad ones:
Weslie Snipes trying to play basketball in White Men Can't Jump
Omar Epps trying to play basketball in Love and Basketball
The Late Bernie Mac in Mr. 3000
Tom Jane in 61* (he'd never played baseball before and was STILL more convincing as a switch hitter than McBride)
Dennis Quaid in The Rookie

Some Good Ones
Costner
Charlie Sheen in Major League
Dennis Haysbert in Major League (actually looked the part of a slugger)
Keanu in the Replacements

I think that was kinda the point of the show. This guy that might have been an athlete at one time falls from grace and now he is a pile of shit. The show had some really dull points, but it had its points where you laughed out loud also.

Bump.... show returns Sept 26th. They will be replaying the original 6 episodes the next
6 Friday's I believe. This show was kind of hit or miss but I remember it being funny a lot
more than being dumb. Should be some good cameos again this upcoming season.

So far season two has been hit or miss, unfortunately mostly misses. I watched the most
recent episode tonight on DVR. The writing is weak, in fact I think that a lot of it seems
ad libbed. There are definitely some chuckle worthy moments and some of the characters
are kind of funny but it is mostly stupid. It isn't supposed to be serious obviously, but
some of the arguments that get started and played out seem straight out of junior high
school. This series could wash out after this year unless they get it in gear. I only find
this disappointing because Kenny Powers has the potential to be a decent character. Maybe
they missed the mark by taking him to Mexico. Could it have been funnier if he went to
Japan or something?

i slightly disagree with you, TB. i think what hill is doing is building...i agree some of the adlibbed stuff is just bad, but that's not on the writing. that's on the adlibbing. that's on the production.

i liked the final sequence of the last episode...with all of these shots of powers being involved in this family but he has this look on his face on the rollercoaster that he isn't ready for it; it's indicative of his character just living by the fly and not taking anything seriously.

there is a deeper thing going on here i think, and i hope it pays off. i think powers is a conflicted character; one who expects greatness in himself, but one who cannot accept himself on a lot of levels.

the only thing i'd like to see them develop is him on the mound. i think that the pitcher is the most interesting *human being* on a baseball team. they're so wired. mentally they have to be a wreck. we've seen this done romantically with "for love of the game"; but how about when someone is just so reckless, the way kenny powers is? that's something i think they can build on.

I did notice the reactions on the roller coaster at the end. Powers seems so uneasy which is
a microcosm of his entire character. I'll continue to tune in because of the Powers character,
I have just found myself laughing less than the first season. I'll grant you that the ad libbing
has nothing to do with the writing, my worries are that the writing was so weak that the ad
libs are way better which is scary. I hope it continues to build like you mentioned.

the adlibbing gets uncomfortable at times, indeed. just like in "the office" and other sitcoms that seem to feed off it. it's ok to write dialog once in a while, guys.

Man this show really sucks. They should've left it alone after they called it quits after season one cause this new season is beyond brutal.

i think kenny was way too much of an asshole in the last episode. and destructive. it was over the top. i laughed a few times (the "star 80" line was great) but i was disappointed. still willing to stick with it.

My DVR got messed up so I am going to have to catch this later in the week.
I don't have my hopes too high. In fact, Bored To Death has leapfrogged
this show on my list of favorites lately.

Marilyn Manson is a HUGE fan of Kenny Powers.

Does everyone know that he's based off of John Rocker or is that Common Knowledge?

It was pretty clear about five minutes into the premiere episode.

This last episode was decent. Don Johnson does a decent turn as
Kenny's long lost father. For some reason the step brother Casper
was cracking me up, maybe it was the fact that he was playing a 15
year old kid and it was so obvious that the actor was like 30. I hope
they end up heading back up to the states as the Mexico thing is
starting to get a little played out in my opinion. I thought this weeks
funniest part was probably when Kenny snuck into his step brothers
room and peed all over the keyboard. A lot of the time the dumbest
stuff on this show makes me laugh which I think is the point.

yeah i liked it, too. i'm actually glad i didn't know that they were casting don johnson as his dad. i'm sure it was published somewhere. the surprise was nice.

i thought it was a funny episode but he NEEDS to get back home now. the mexican story i think is pretty much concluded...although I would think that his "promoter" would want to get back at him for destroying all that equipment.

My other suggestion for the show would be to keep the Maria character
clothed. They failed to do that 2 episodes ago and it was not a pretty
sight. Very rarely do they put women that look like that with no clothes
on before a camera. We all found out why during that portion of the program.

I had to wash my eyes with bleach after I saw that.

It was pretty decent. Funny to see him exact revenge on all his enemies. Best
part of the episode for me was when the guy gets out of rehab at the beginning
and he makes amends with his sponsor. Although this season hasn't been the best
I will be sad to see this show go away. TV needs more Kenny Powers.

I just discovered this show in the last two weeks and finally got caught up last night. The dwarf guy, Deep Roy, needs to be in more scenes. Very amusing character. I've recommended this show to a few people and they either really fucking hate it or find it hilarious. Second season is a beat weaker than the first but I'm still laughing out loud regularly. The guy who plays Powers, Danny McBride, reminds of the actor who played Farva in Super Troopers.
