I hear you, Nas. Grossman has shown me enough in the past three weeks to restore my confidence in him, for now.
None of the QBs mentioned above have had 1.3 and 10.3 games like Rex has. That may contribute to the lack of national respect. If Rex plays well in the playoffs, he will gain the respect you desire. Just win the Superbowl and all will be right with the world.

I'm with you Nas, but mediocre ratings don't make the news...catastrophic ones (1.3) do. And, when you string a few pretty bad games together, that gets more press than a bad game here or there.

Hinrich has three "bad" games in a row and he's in a slump. He has three bad games over a 15 game stretch and it goes un-noticed.

Rex has the opportunity to earn his respect. I hope he does.
The Romo love does chap my ass. I don't watch any of the pregames, postgames or recap shows. So I don't get to hear the talking heads and I am better off for it. If it is not on Comcast, I rarely watch non-game programming. I also don't read much national sports media. I don't care what those dopes have to say. I read the local dopes.

I guess I am one of those knuckleheads so I'll respond. I don't control the media so I'll just respond as myself.

First of all, Romo has not been good lately and we should all be thankful of that. They were playing great when he was great and could have beaten the Bears. Unless they turn it around quick, that won't happen now.

Rex is the most inconsistent QB in the NFL. His high point was the first 5 games. His low point was the games before St. Louis where he could have been benched. He has been average to above average since then. All of your statements with dashes in front of them are great statistics, but they are all ignoring the really bad games. Also, winning percentage can be misleading. Rex has a higher winning percentage than any other QB in the league this year besides one, and that is Philip Rivers. If you want to include partial starters, I believe Jeff Garcia is undefeated.

As for Orton. I will admit I like Kyle Orton and have since college, but taking him out last year was the right move. I hate hearing the idiots call in and talk about Rex vs. Orton. The difference between Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman is a rookie 4th round pick vs a 4 year veteran 1st round pick. If Kyle was playing this year and didn't perform much better than last year, he would have been pulled really fast. If you can't respect a player who was drafted to sit on the bench for a few years to watch and improve coming in and playing almost a full season without messing things up too much then you have a bias as bad as anyone's anti-Rex bias.

Rex was handed the starting job 3 straight years. We all know about the injuries but Bears fans are impatient with a 4 year veteran who plays like a rookie, especially on a team that is as good as it is ever going to be this year. The inexperience excuse also doesn't work. Philip Rivers sat on the bench and played less games than Rex and he came in and has played great this year. Roethlisberger was the QB of the Super Bowl champs. Kyle Boller, who was drafted 3 spots ahead of Rex, has already been benched. Unfair or not, many people treat Rex like it is his 4th year in the league.

Every QB has bad games, but Rex has games where he doesn't seem to have a clue. Before he was benched, he was talking strange and his head did not seem to be all together. He responded relatively well in the games since but it remains to be seen if it will continue. St. Louis was a tough test, and he passed. Tampa Bay is ok, and he passed. Detroit and Green Bay mean nothing and won't show us either way. The jury is still out.

The point of the "bench Rex" debate, which by the way, should not be in the conversation anymore, was to see if our backup was better. I just don't understand why QB is the only position on the team that you never see if the backup can perform better. If Thomas Jones is struggling, they see if Cedric Benson can do better. If Berrian is strugging, they give Mark Bradley a few chances. Take a look at the backup QB's that have come in and improved the team(Tony Romo, Jeff Garcia, Vince Young). What if it turned out that Griese was going to really click and improve the offense by being consistent. We won't ever know now. If Griese does play in the playoffs, the Bears are already probably in a big hole.

I want Rex to do well. It may not sound like it but I am a Bears fan first. Anyone who puts on the uniform gets my support. I am just afraid that on a cold night in January I will be watching Rex Grossman have a 4 turnover game where we are losing because of him. If we had seen Griese play and saw that he is just as turnover prone(as some suggest) then Rex would be the man no matter what. Now we are in a situation where if Rex has 2 turnovers in the first half, Lovie has an incredibly tough decision to make, instead of knowing what we have. It also would have us better prepared if Griese has to play in the playoffs.

I hope that I am wrong. I hope that the Bears don't lose. I hope that if we do lose, it is not Rex's fault, because he could be a major positive for us in the future.

So just to make this clear. Call me out in the playoffs if I am wrong.

Griese should have been given a shot if:
Grossman is replaced in the playoffs
Grossman has a terrible game with 3 turnovers
Grossman has 4 turnovers in a game

I didn't mean it that you are avoiding his bad games, but having the lead in number of 100+ QB ratings doesn't seem as good when he also probably has the worst 4 combined games of any QB in the league that is decent.

Romo's first 5 games were great just like Grossman's first 5 games. Actually Grossman's were better. You know what happend to both. The league kind of figured them out and game planned for them more. They needed to prove they could beat defenses.

So yeah everybody fell in love with Romo but I knew this was coming. The National media wants to anoint somebody as a Hall of Famer because then they can say they knew it from the beginning. If they go bad they won't even acknowlege that they are wrong. Just the way it is.

the rating is garbage.....the rating only "works" when the games are bad. you guys have to remember that a 158.3 is perfection and a 100 rating is "66%" or so.
TD passes inflate. INT's kill. just like fantasy football....

and Kramer....you don't seem like one of those idiots....
"I just don't understand why QB is the only position on the team that you never see if the backup can perform better."
this does make a difference though. you can lose a team if the decisions the Coach and GM have to make are dicey. it was the same in high school. i suspect it doesn't change in college. there are likely many reasons that exist that we aren't aware of pertaining to "losing the team" when QB upheavel exists.
hell, we're Bears fans......we know all about this.
that's why, i'm o.k. with the way they've been doing this.

and for what it's worth, remeber that:
the Bears are new at developing a QB.
Rex for played for one of the most QB friendly coaches in the history of college football.....

so, i'm willing to wait. the way they did the Greise thing was perfect imo.

I don't think this is true at all. With the exception of Gabe Reid and Benson this week, I don't remember a Bears receiver getting lit up this year...

The national media wants the NFL's 2nd biggest market and arguably the NFL's biggest fanbase to fail.

Panther I'm not sure if you are aware of this but most of Grossman bad games have come against "shitty" teams. With the exception of the Patriots game he has played well against good teams.

Grossman has struggled against teams that can blitz effectively. He so far hasn't demonstrated much pocket mobility or the ability to sense the pass rush. While the past few games have shown that he's making progress in checking down, his ability to beat the blitz will remain in question until he does so in the playoffs when he will face tougher, more prepared teams playing at a faster pace.

Grossman has definitely shown some improvement recently against the blitz, but we'll see what happens in the playoffs. The big key for the Bears, obviously, is establishing the run. Without being able to use play-action, Grossman will have problems. He hasn't proven himself to be a QB who can keep plays alive by moving in the pocket. If the Bears play Seattle in their first playoff game, it will be interesting to see if they change their defensive strategy in the rematch. In the regular season, Seattle didn't blitz at all and thus got destroyed by Grossman...

I thought they blitzed early and were effective and then inexplicably stopped, resulting in Grossman eating them up.

Dolphin, I think you're thinking of the Giants game. The Giants blitzed like crazy for the first 25 minutes of the game and were clowning Rex. When the Bears got the ball for the last drive of the 1st half, the Giants didn't blitz and the Bears scored a touchdown. Then in the 2nd half, the Giants sat back on defense and let Grossman have all day to find receivers in the deep middle.

Greise is a slightly above average starting QB who had one great season 6 years ago.....
