I'd be all for that, too. But, nobody else has won a Super Bowl so I'd rather hear about the 25th anniversary of the '85 Bears than the 15th anniversary of the 9-win Wanny Bears of 1995.

Big Cat, Rashaan Salaam, Zorich, Todd Sauerbrun all sitting around telling great stories about their GLORIOUS 2nd half collapse and meaningless late-season wins to save Wanny's job for another year.

1985 remains the single greatest year in Chicago sports history. Nothing will ever come close to it. I'm guessing that the guys here who constantly rip on the 1985 Bears were either not born yet or too young to remember. Who can blame the 1985 Bears players for making careers for themselves from that season?

You can say whatever you want, but anyone who experienced the 1985 Bears season will tell you that they never saw anything like it before, & will never see anything like it again. It wasn't just what the Bears did on the field, it was a thing that completely overtook the city of Chicago. 1985 was the most fun I have ever had as a Chicago sports fan, & there isn't another year that comes close.

Next year will mark the 26th anniversary of the 85 Bears! Let's celebrate!

True story - I was in Miami & at the game for that Monday night loss. That sucked. But, I did meet McMahon on the beach ...and that night in the hotel restauraunt & lounge, Payton & Suhey were having dinner. After their dinner...Payton went up with the band and sat in on a song,...playing the drums. With the "crowd" focused on Walter, I saw Suhey waiting at the bar so I went and small talked with him, wished him luck, told him I was down for the game etc...So Walter finishes up & came walking right up to us....I was able to shake his hand, quick small talk & then they were on their way.

So I'm sure I jinxed them in some way....but pretty cool to have met the starting backfield for the 85 Super Bowl Bears all in one day.

I don't even consider myself a football fan, but I'll agree with this. It was fun just waiting to see how drunk Ditka would be when he came on Sunday night with Johnny Morris. I remember one night every question Morris asked, Ditka was so fucked up he just shrugged and said, "We're the Bears, John." On Thursday night you might run into some of those goofs at a bar anywhere. It became a badge of honor if McMichael pulled his knife on you.

I understand the "85 Bears should go away" sentiment.

But, last night crystallized exactly why that team is still around. People still are willing to come out and listen to these guys and pay to do it because that team had 15 guys, minimum, players and coaches that are more interesting and entertaining to listen to than any guy on the current team or probably any team in the last decade.

Hell, the kicker on that team is more interesting than this team's Hall of Fame linebacker or superstar QB. I blame the coaches. The Bears haven't had a head coach with a personality in over a decade and the players take the cue. No need to ever say anything interesting.

Maybe if the Bears had a guy with half a personality on the team in the last 25 years, this team could go away. But, I can't think of 5 guys from that time that I'd bother to wake up my limo driver to go have them buy me dinner.

Yes they have become annoying as fuck no doubt. You are correct though Scorehead, anyone who was old enough to appreciate that team in 85 knows what they meant to the city at the time. Plus I think one thing that gets lost in all the ripping of them is, they by most accounts, had THE most dominating single season and playoff run in NFL history. In other words, the best EVER. Until the Bulls runs, this was a huge deal in a city that for the most part had a piss poor sports history as far as memorable winning teams go, especially in a national consciousness. They transcended the sport. Its one thing to talk the talk, they went out and basically steamrolled everyone in their path. Opposing teams actually feared them. Im far from being a homer believe me, but Ive never seen a more dominating football team by a wide margin. So, sure the love for them nowadays is a bit meatballish but I guess its one of those things you wouldve had to have been there for to understand.

Yeah. You'll hear people all the time say this guy or that guy scares people. But it's not really true. We're talking about professionals who are the best at what they do. They didn't get there by being afraid. You see Cutler getting killed out there, but I don't think he's afraid. The '85 Bears frightened opposing quarterbacks and you could see it. I had never seen it before and I haven't seen it since. That Ravens team might have had a more effective defense. And Ray Lewis is a fierce dude. But they didn't scare people like that Bears team. The rush was coming and you didn't know from where. It took a while for teams to catch on to the 46 and then it wasn't the same. But that season, it's safe to say no one wanted to face the Bears.

I love the story Bernsie references often about Ray Guy from the Raiders hiding by laying down behind the bench in order to not have to go in as an emergency QB against the Bears. Can't say I blame him at all.

The 1985 Bears were the equivilent of Mike Tyson in his prime. I have to agree with Scorehead. I was 15, a sophomore in high school. It was the perfect age to take all of it in. I'm still pissed that the Challenger blew up the next day, and stole all of their thunder.
