she's actually on?! i had no idea, thusly assuming that she was shuttled off to some secret sports talk radio host training camp in turkmenistan. wow. this almost makes me wish i would sell out and install itunes so i'd be allowed to podcast with the big boys at the score (seriously, going from str8up "click here for a .mp3 file" podcasts to this store.apple.com crap is just awful, not to mention that instead of having a rss feed that updates with mp3s you have to get into apple jargon and have a PODCAST, you know, like YOU'RE BROADCASTING ON AN IPOD. i fucking abhor apple because loathe and hate aren't strong enough words)

I didnt like her 'Audition" tape and was shocked they could not find something better, but Mitch might have taken a shot in the dark with the female show as he has enough guys trying to get airtime.

Actually, it proves that Bernstein is a fucking idiot, as he played a large role in selecting her.

I really don't think she is a sports fan at all--her opinions seem to be derived entirely from the Tribune and Sun-Times sports sections. She simply parrots what she has read in two of the worst sources for sports opinion on the internet.

Despite her disastrous showing thus far, though, she's still not as bad as Finfer and Jim Littke.

Bernstein probably likes her because he wants to blur the line between actual news and sports news, so he can fancy himself a real journalist.

I haven't sampled Maya's new show, in large part because it airs at 2a Sundays. Here's an idea...When the Big Ten Network's Ben Stein-looking Gerry DiNardo and the SCORE's Connor McKnight wrap up their first season of "Inside College Football" in the next few weeks, put Maya on at 10p Friday night so that people who haven't tuned in can at least sample her show...Just a thought.

I like Finfer. He at least has some sports knowledge & doesnt sound like a fool on the air like Maya Gavin does.

God no! 2AM Sunday nights is the right time slot for Gavin.

As for Bernsys involvement in helping Gavin win the Score contest, a guy with a Napolean complex like Berns certainly doesnt want an outsider with talent to perhaps challenge him...so he supports the lowest common denominator. Once again Mitch screws the pooch.

Ben Finfer was on this past Saturday afternoon with the AP's Jim Litke. They covered a lot of ground during the 4 hours they were on between 4-8p. Given the fact there's no Northern Illinois football game this weekend, something tells me that Finfer's got another airshift this weekend on 670 The SCORE. By the way, memo to the Web site: PUT THE DAMN SCHEDULE ON THE NEW LOOK CBSCHICAGO.COM so we can plan accordingly!!! Get it done!!!

Heard her show once. She had a clear/professional delivery, was opinionated and outlined a number of points she wanted to stick to on the limited topics she touched upon in the hour I heard. Very vanilla, imo.

She really did have a detached, clinical sound to her program. She did come across very Bernstein-ian in her (wrong, imo) position, very rigid in her discussion and near absolute in her dismissive-ness of opposing (non-meatball) arguments.

In fairness, the show parts I heard focused almost totally on assessing blame for the Bears' failure between the talent level and coaching quality. Period. A tired discussion by now if ever there was one. But it was 3am on a Sunday, no caller seemingly wanted to take the discussion in any different direction.

I'd much prefer to hear her once or twice in a real slot, with real callers/guests. Especially over an Oak Park Vandy, a Shake That...or increasingly Mully & Hanley.

If it was her first bite of the Score apple it wasn't bad, especially compared to what the M&H show has become, or what overnights (save Les) have always been on the Score. David Stein is odd enough, but I still remember Joe Cain almost in pain trying to fill the air in those lonely hours (unless a drunk caller was allowed on). It's damn hard to have a show with any kind of (entertaining)sane personality at that hour and wrong to grade her solely by that slot.

Why? What has he ever offered on air worth a listen? His updates are still choppy & he doesn't offer up anything not already discussed ad nauseum on the day's programming. He isn't funny nor particularly clever and not particularly bright (sounding).

As much as I am a critic of Oak Park Vandy & LoHo, they both are better than Maya Gavin & it isn't close. She will never see an airshift between 5AM & Midnight, & rightly so. She will disapear from the Score when her 1 year prize is up. She is bad...real bad.
