Thanks for the link Brick. If Pax is able to get Melo without giving up Noah there is no doubt in my mind he saves his legacy and probably brings more titles to Chicago. A potential lineup of Rose, Brewer/Korver, Melo, Boozer, and Noah is pretty stout.

Lookin at it now that's a pretty formidable lineup. It'd be great if Pax couble pull it off but I doubt it'll happen. Hope I'm wrong

I doubt it happens too, but it would be a helluva lineup, ISOP level greatness.

Here is a great article that was written today about including Noah in a possible Noah swap. I have to say that I agree with the writer. He explains all of the worries I stated before in a much better way:

Quote:
Chicago trading Joakim Noah for Carmelo Anthony? Bad idea.
Wed Sep 22,2010 12:01 PM ET By Kurt Helin

Who knows who put this rumor out there -- Denver staffers trying to up the ante, Carmelo Anthony people trying to push the deal forward -- but it is the debate around the league:

Should Chicago throw Joakim Noah into the deal to bring Carmelo Anthony to Chicago?

No. No. A thousand times no.

Let's be clear -- Melo is a better player than Noah. Melo is a better player than Luol Deng Melo is an elite scorer, one of the best in the league, and at the end of the day the game is still about putting the ball in the basket. I love to watch Anthony play, and so would the people in Chicago.

But the deal is not Noah for Anthony straight up. It is Deng and Noah (and a pick and/or filler), and combined they bring more to the Bulls than Anthony can.

Defense would be the biggest issue -- Anthony and Carlos Boozer are now your forwards, with Omer Asik now your starting center by default. Both Boozer and Anthony can be exposed on defense, as can Derrick Rose, and while Asik is nice he is not the rim-protecting beast you'd need behind those two. Noah is. In a league where protecting the paint matters more and more, trading away young mobile centers is a bad idea.

New coach Tom Thibodeau understands defense but he cannot turn water into wine -- you can't make a team of iffy defenders good at it. Look at Cleveland last season, they gave a defensive minded coach (Mike Brown) guys like Shaq and Jamison and the defense paid a price.

Noah and Deng are the two best defenders the Bulls have, move them and you change the identity of this team.

And you change the roles. Which right now are pretty neatly defined: Rose is your playmaking point guard, Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer knocking down shots on the wing, Deng and Boozer at forward, Noah as the energy glue guy. Behind them you have Taj Gibson, C.J. Watson and Asik. That is a good roster, maybe very good.

Do you really blow that roster up to see if Rose and Anthony can play well and lead a team together? Of course they can you say... then why has Melo not made it to the NBA finals with Allen Iverson and Chauncey Billups? Anthony likes to play out of isolation sets -- 36.5 percent of his shots came that way last season. And he does not pass well out of it.

Simply put -- remove Deng and Noah then replace them with Anthony and the Bulls are not better, they're worse. If the deal was just for Deng and parts that would be different (although how the Bulls pay big money to Melo, Boozer, Rose and Noah in a couple years would be an issue), but once you throw Noah into the mix it doesn't work.

The Bulls are right. Don't do it. Stick to their current offer. And if they don't get Anthony what do they have? One very good team that deserves a chance to find out just how good they can be.

The problem with that thinking DB is that it is only looking at this current year. But this deal would be made for the next 5-10 years. Sure things defensively might be rough the first year, but you have to look at the big picture, where I highly doubt Omer Asik is your starting center in the long term.

(Note: bagels, more than one line)

I'm not saying I am 100% against this deal. I would probably say I am 75% against including Noah, and 25% for it. I just think there will be some major defensive issues if it happens.

Also, the future may not exactly alleviate this problem. You are not going to have much cap space leftover to go out and sign another Center because you will have to extend Melo, pay Boozer, and also extend Rose. The Bulls will probably also have to give up 1 or 2 draft picks, which also hurts your chances of building in the draft.

But fuck it. We got Scalabrine, I say make the deal.

That writer has a good argument there, I guess that my main concern is Joakim's health - that killed the Bulls having him miss so much time. All things being equal, that trade would be detrimental to the team, so I'm hoping that the Nugz go for a deal that doesn't include Noah...

Carmelo Anthony's wish list starts with the New York Knicks, but that's not the only trade destination he's targeting.

Sources briefed on the state of Anthony's ongoing push to be dealt by the Denver Nuggets told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Chicago Bulls are a firm 1A on his list. This is partly attributed to the fact that the Bulls are much closer to assembling the sort of package Denver would want in return for its franchise player than the Knicks.

Over the last 72 hours, sources said, Anthony's representatives -- headed by agent Leon Rose -- have been ramping up the pressure on the Nuggets to complete a deal with the Knicks or the Bulls before training camps open leaguewide next week.

Sources say that Denver officials, however, are not inclined to rush into anything. ESPN.com reported Sunday night that the Nuggets, in recent days, have been telling interested teams for the first time that they are willing to field offers for Anthony after resisting such inquiries for weeks.

Anthony

But even as the Nuggets have opted to see what sort of haul can be had for their high-scoring forward, there remains strong sentiment within the organization to slow the process down in hopes of mounting one last campaign to win back Anthony's support.

The Nuggets, sources said, are clinging to the hope that Anthony might reconsider his trade-me stance once he starts hearing some Denver-friendly voices upon reporting to camp after weeks of isolation from the organization.

Anthony will be greeted by the likes of head coach George Karl and trusted teammate Chauncey Billups trying to convince the 26-year-old that his current team is not far away from a return to contention in the Western Conference and that the foundation of the group that reached the West finals in 2009 should not be scrapped.

Yet sources say that the message from Anthony's camp to the Nuggets has stayed consistent: New York and Chicago are the preferred landing spots, with New Jersey and Houston also still in the conversation.

The Nets remain a viable option because of their planned move to Brooklyn and because the Nets have what several rival executives believe to be the deepest cache of assets to satisfy Denver's trade demands in its worst-case scenario.

Though the Rockets are the fourth known team in the Anthony sweepstakes, multiple sources close to the situation insisted Friday that Houston is not making guard Kevin Martin part of the discussions. The Nuggets, sources maintain, would expect a combination of expiring contracts, future first-round draft picks and at least one marketable young talent if they ultimately concede that Anthony must be traded between now and the February trading deadline.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony, who can become a free agent next July, a three-year extension worth $65 million.

ESPN.com reported Monday that the Nets are widely regarded in NBA front-office circles as the frontrunner for Anthony. New Jersey is reportedly willing to package No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors with the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy and Kris Humphries and at least one future first-rounder.

It's believed that the Nets, though, would insist on Anthony agreeing to a contract extension as part of the trade -- as Kevin Garnett did when Minnesota sent him to Boston in the summer of 2007 -- before they agree to surrender assets such as Favors and draft picks.

The Bulls could theoretically trump any New Jersey offer if they were willing to include center Joakim Noah as part of a deal for Anthony. Sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking, however, have maintained for days that the Bulls are strongly against the inclusion of Noah, revealing instead that Chicago has offered a package featuring Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and one future first-rounder.

Playing alongside former Team USA teammate Amare Stoudemire in New York is thought to hold the greatest appeal to Anthony, something Stoudemire openly discussed earlier in the summer. The Knicks, though, simply lack the draft picks to sweeten a package that sources say would be centered around Eddy Curry's expiring contract and either Danilo Gallinari or Anthony Randolph -- but not both of those young players.

The Knicks, Bulls and Nets all stand to benefit from Denver's determination to send Anthony out of the Western Conference if it decides there is no alternative apart from trading him, but sources close to the process note that a third team would almost certainly have to be recruited to help facilitate a deal.

Reports have persisted for weeks that Anthony, wielding the hammer of his potential free agency in the wake of the defections of LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Miami, wants out. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Aug. 16 that it was "a matter of when, not if, Anthony and the Nuggets will go their separate ways."

But Anthony has not made any such declarations publicly, announcing Tuesday night via his Twitter feed: "Everyone has [their] own opinion. It's funny. It cracks me up."

Yet Anthony did add in a follow-up tweet: "When I know something ... you guys will know something."

Sadly he passed away in May. His father is suing the state of IL saying that the carbon monoxide poisoning can be directly linked to his workplace environment. We will see what happens. Bottom line, I'm out of the know.

Larry just had Shoe on, and Shoe said you don't trade Noah because you won't win a championship right away because you have no center. Shoe just lost any credibility he had, which was little to begin with.

Knicks wish they had pick to deal for Anthony

Donnie Walsh spent the summer spending his monumental cap space to bring in 10 new players, including five-time All-Star Amar'e Stoudemire and a legit point guard in Raymond Felton.

But, ironically, the Knicks president indicated yesterday what he needs most to make the Knicks a title contender is a future first-round draft pick to use in a Carmelo Anthony trade.

The Nuggets seek at least one first-rounder included in a package for Anthony. Walsh traded the Knicks' 2012 pick in the Tracy McGrady deal, and have only their 2014 pick available to trade under league rules.

"I need to go out and see if I can get one," Walsh said. "I don't know how to do that. You always want to keep first-round picks."

Reports have Anthony's agent Leon Rose stepping up the pressure on the Nuggets to deal Anthony before training camp, though Denver wants to play it slow. Anthony wants to be traded to the Knicks, but the Bulls, Nets and Rockets, who own that Knicks' 2012 pick, are in the mix.

Danilo Gallinari, Anthony Randolph and Wilson Chandler are three young players the Nuggets might consider, but the Nuggets recently told a Knicks official that without a first-rounder, they don't have enough assets to make a trade. Last month, there was a report Walsh was trying to trade for the Pacers' first-rounder. (The Knicks are not permitted to trade their 2011 or 2013 first-rounders because teams can't go two straight seasons without owning a pick).

Walsh admitted regret about shipping the 2012 pick in the T-Mac deal.

"I didn't like doing it," Walsh said. "The night before, I felt I don't like doing this, but we're going to do it. I'll second-guess myself."

The cap-clearing trade in dealing Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries opened cap room for two max players. But they signed only one max in Stoudemire. Without the T-Mac trade, the Knicks still could have squeezed in Felton.

After two years of LeBron James speculation, Knicks brass, with players reporting to camp tomorrow, still has to listen to fans talk about 'Melo and not the current squad.

"Until we can prove we can win and win at a high level, we'll always have the talk," coach Mike D'Antoni said. "Donnie has his job to keep improving the team, but I'm really excited about who we have and [am] not even thinking about looking down the hallway. We're very content about the people we can put on the floor this year. That can't happen until we start winning and [then] the talk will go away."

The Knicks are concerned about giving up too much in an Anthony deal. They'd likely have to part with two of their three young guns -- Gallinari, Randolph and Chandler.

"We have to see what we have right now, but part of my job is to see if a deal can be made to get [an All-Star] player like that and not give up too much," Walsh said. "If that player is available and you don't have to destroy your whole team, you'd consider it."

Status quo isn't wine and roses, despite the team's belief it will be in the hunt for an eighth seed. Neither Walsh nor D'Antoni would say missing the playoffs means the season is a failure.

"At the end of the year, we'll all know whether it's been good or bad," D'Antoni said.

Walsh confirmed guard Kelanna Azubuike won't be ready when practices begin Saturday, and he is not expected to be ready for the season opener Oct. 27. Azubuike is expected to miss the exhibition schedule but could be cleared to practice late in preseason. He is still rehabbing from knee surgery.

"He's got one of the roughest injuries for a basketball player -- the patella tendon," Walsh said.

Walsh also confirmed Eddy Curry is the lone Knick who hasn't reported, but expects him today.

"Players don't have to come in the summer," Walsh said. "I try not to make judgments on it or get mad because they didn't come. But when they come, they have to be in shape." . . . Walsh, recovering from spinal-cord surgery, still is rehabbing and using a wheelchair.

I can't believe Walsh is talking publicly about this, and that Denver needs a mid-round pick, which probably will amount to nothing, to pull of a trade.

I used to laugh at the Knicks until the only available cable/internet package available to me was from the owner. If you think he sucks as an owner you should see how it is as a customer.

Sounds like the Bulls are out of the Melo sweepstakes:

Quote:
Carmelo Anthony trade talks heat up

By Marc Stein

The Denver Nuggets are having serious discussions about a four-way trade that would land Carmelo Anthony with the New Jersey Nets, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

The proposed deal, sources said, also would involve the Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Bobcats. It would deliver Nets rookie forward Derrick Favors, Jazz veteran Andrei Kirilenko and multiple first-round picks to Denver in exchange for their franchise player, potentially bringing a resolution to Anthony's uncertain future before the Nuggets hold their first practice of the new season.

Sources told ESPN.com that the deal, which has yet to be finalized, also would send former All-Star point guard Devin Harris to Charlotte, with Bobcats forward Boris Diaw moving to Utah.

The four teams, said one source close to the talks, are "seriously engaged" after extensive talks Thursday.

However, one obstacle is Anthony's willingness to sign a contract extension with the Nets. A source told ESPN.com that the Nets will not go through with the trade -- even if Denver is ready to pull the trigger -- unless Anthony commits to signing a contract extension, as Kevin Garnett did as part of the mega-trade that sent him from Minnesota to Boston in July 2007.

Because Anthony has the ability to become a free agent at season's end -- which is the hammer that has enabled his agent, Leon Rose, to apply such pressure to the Nuggets in hopes of forcing a trade before the start of the season -- New Jersey is unwilling to sacrifice assets such as Favors and Harris without a guarantee that Anthony will be there for the long term.

ESPN.com reported earlier this week that Anthony's representatives have been pushing Denver to deal the 26-year-old to New York or Chicago, his two preferred destinations, but the Knicks lack the trade assets required to tempt Denver and the Bulls have consistently refused to make center Joakim Noah available, trying instead to sell the Nuggets on a package headlined by swingman Luol Deng.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year extension worth $65 million, but he has not signed the deal.

I don't know if they are "out of it", or maybe just taking the proper tack. It's useless to trade for him if he won't sign an extension.

These rumors don't mean shit.
Chicago was supposed to be the big front runner for the now hated Lebron. Which couldn't have been further from the truth the whole time.

I heard a report that the reason this isn't done is that 'melo doesn't want to sign an extension with NJ, Brooklyn or not... can't find any confirmation on this though.

If the Bulls don't land him, GarPax needs to be fired. If you won't trade Noah for a top 10 guy, and wouldn't trade Deng for Kobe a few years ago, you have proven you are basketball retarded. The Bulls must enjoy being in basketball hell.

Totally agree. I am a very casual basketball fan and the idiocy surrounding this is seriously pissing me off. I cannot even imagine how intelligent and rational (two very important words) hardcore Bulls fans feel.

Even though the Knicks seem to nearly have a deal in place right now, what would a trade for melo involving noah look like?

Even though the Knicks seem to nearly have a deal in place right now, what would a trade for melo involving noah look like?

Would still have to include Deng due to the contract. I bet the Nugs would want Taj and JJ too.

Quote:
The now-prized possession Carmelo Anthony continues to create a multitude of swirling winds in the NBA's central with continuous rumors.

According to ESPN's NBA analyst Chris Broussard, the Philadelphia 76ers wingman Andre Iguodala has asked the Sixers management for a trade.

Per reports, the Sixers are interested in the ever-lingering Luol Deng, who has been spotty at best throughout his career.

Deng, a former seventh overall pick in 2004, has spent six years in Chicago with stints of brilliance that has been overridden with injury. This year was intended to be a breakout year for the 25-year-old small forward, as the Sudan native fulfills a third-option spot.

Iguodala, on the other hand, has only sat out four games throughout his six years of service.

However, another blockbuster scenario is more likely.

While trading Deng for Iguodala is an easier solution for both team's problems, Carmelo Anthony may have his own resolved with some fine tuning.

Anthony has expressed his discomfort regarding a trade to Philly, but has spoken highly about Tom Thibodeau's squad.

This three-way trade may be under construction as this article is composed:

Chicago Bulls Receive:
SF Carmelo Anthony

Philadelphia 76ers Receive:
SF Luol Deng

Denver Nuggets Receive:
SG Andre Iguodala
PF Taj Gibson
SF James Johnson

Well, I was thinking of saying Gibson, but even they wouldnt believe people are that dumb.

I could see someone making a case for Deng and making Dan's head explode...

I haven't read this whole thread and I have no intention of. I am only a casual basketball fan, does Carmello need the ball or does he do his best work without it?
I don't want anything that will possibly retard the development of Rose. I think he is gonna be special.
