Glad to see the city is looking out for my best interest. I find this apuzzling potential decision even by Aldermanic standards.

Caffeinated alcoholic drinks could be banned in Chicago
The sale of caffeinated alcoholic drinks would be banned in Chicago under a proposal introduced at today's City Council meeting.

Sponsoring Alds. Edward Burke, 14th, and Gene Schulter, 47th, said the beverages are dangerous for young adults who might not realize how drunk they have become when they drink them.

"Quite frankly, I think it is completely irresponsible to manufacture and market a product that can make young people so intoxicated so fast," Schulter said in a news release.

The proposal was sent for further consideration to a joint committee of Finance and License and Consumer Protection.

The Jagerbomb should be outlawed on "disgusting-ness" alone.

In other news, sales of Red Bull and Monster, Jager and Bacardi O spiked last week.

The conspiracy theorist in me believes that Edward Burke and Gene Schulter are looking for a little more "luv" from the beverage distributors.

See, this is sorta silly. Instead of banning them all together, how about a limit of 1 or 2 per customer? Still can get some tax revenue from them that way.

From personal experience you don't want to drink more than 2 at a sitting anyway.
Really not the kind of buzz I am seeking anyway.

I don't care because I don't drink any sort of energy drink anyway, alcoholic or not. The most I have is maybe a grand total of 5 or 6 Jeager bombs in a year.

This isn't banning j-bombs and other drinks made at a bar is it? I thought it's banning stuff like Sparks that is packaged. That stuff is awful anyways.

this also comes from a city that banned trans fat, causing them to put something else in food replacing the trans fat that makes the body reject the food real fast.

Update on this story for those interested....

(CNN) -- The Food and Drug Administration is preparing to ban caffeinated alcohol drinks, Sen. Charles Schumer said Tuesday. In response, one leading manufacturer of these drinks announced that it will remove caffiene and other ingredients from its product.

The FDA, which has been reviewing the drinks since last year, declined to comment on the report. Spokeswoman Siobhan Delancey said the matter was still under review.

But Schumer, in a statement issued to the media, said the FDA will rule that caffeine is an unsafe additive to alcoholic beverages, effectively banning them from the U.S. market.

"Let these rulings serve as a warning to anyone who tried to peddle dangerous and toxic brews to our children. Do it and we will shut you down," Schumer, D-New York, said in the statement.

Critics say such drinks -- leading brands include Four Loko and Joose -- mix as much as three cups of coffee with three cans of beer and are designed to appeal to younger consumers accustomed to consuming high-caffeine energy drinks.

A 23.5-ounce can of Four Loko contains either 6 or 12 percent alcohol by volume, depending on state regulations.

I noticed the liquor store I was at yesterday was selling those Four Loko
drinks. Tempting as it was to try one and see what all the hype was about
I managed to abstain. Was pretty sure all I was going to get out of the deal
was a headache.

I tried one this weekend for the first time. Not bad. If you chugged the thing, it would probably fuck you up. I wouldn't recommend drinking more than one of them either.

Out of curiosity which flavor did you have? I noticed there were 4 different kinds. I really need
to at least try one of these before they get pulled off shelves. I'm nothing if not a connoisseur
of all things alcohol. If I can avoid a headache, then downing one quickly may be worth the effort.

I tried the fruit punch. It was the last one they had left. My friend bought 3 orange ones, he said those are pretty good, and really hard to find now. The guy at the liquor store said those were his last ones in stock and he won't be getting any more in for awhile. He said they are re-doing the recipe, so they are probably going to drop the alcohol content, and caffeine a tad. I imagine they will bring it down to somewhere near where Sparks is at. It may be a little difficult to find any now.

I'm thinking of buying up all the stock in the area and selling them to kids. Anyone want to join me in becoming a Four Loko bootlegger?

No Four Loko yet but I did have to stop at the gas station last night and
before I got home I figured it would be a great idea to have some caffeinated
alcohol while I tried to get my snowblower up and running. I brought up a can
of Sparks to the register and the cashier kindly let me know that there was a
much more powerful drink buried in the ice cooler called Crunk Juice if I was so
inclined. Well, I was so inclined, and who the hell would turn down something
called Crunk Juice before playing with a machine with metal blades? Not I!
Needless to say I was a bit disappointed in the outcome. It did take me a
bit longer to get the snowblower up and running, so I could tell the Crunk had
punched me in the junk a bit, but overall... not so great. Can't say I would
recommend it overall.

i came across the four loko shit at a liquor store right on golf by milwaukee. i tried the fruit punch and watermelon... the fruit punch was rough, but still better than sparks or especially camo or some other shit. it was a giant can too... i retch a little bit trying to remember the flavor.

now after the fruit punch i went to the watermelon, and maybe this is because i felt the effectrss of the first one, but the watermelon was better... that's for sure.

A:M is much better than that stuff... it's realtively expensive but it's like a vodka/redbull with a twinge of flavor and the shit is yeah. that's the stuff i'd miss if this ban goes on
