It's blatently obvious that the organization didn't think Sandberg was ready.

Sandberg was given the opportunity to remain in the organization. He declined.

Get over it and move on.

Call it what you will, but Ryno was run out of the Cubs organization.

It's shit like this and the over love of the 85 Bears that make me ashamed to be from Chicago sometimes. In fact it's this meatball whininess that made 102 years of losing acceptable as long as you got a sunny day to sit outside and drink your shitty Old Style and cheer on Santo and Sammy and the rest of the Bozo squad. HOOTERVILLE!!!

If anyone is being a bully, it's Sandberg. He basically gave the organization an ultimatum that either he was the next manager or he's leaving. If he really thought that was owed the job after 4 years in the minors, well then I wouldn't want him as my manager at this point anyways.

This is what I'm talking aboot. It's obvious that Dan isn't the meatball old guy that whistler, scorekirk, and JamesQMeatball are.

See, that's just it. If you don't carry on with the inane meatballish thoughts, it's a good discussion.

This whole thread is just bitching about someone who was a hero to many not getting a job he apparently wasn't qualified for.

I like Ryne Sandburg too. If the Cubs did hire him, that would be fine BUT it's nice to see a "lifer" like Quade get a break. He seems to be pretty sharp.

See, that's just it. I think that if they were bringing in someone who wasn't a retread (Wedge et al) or someone sitting on a bench currently, Quade is a decent enough hire.

The fact is that the team is screwed with some of these bad contracts and the apparent financial handcuffs on the Ricketts clan, so they might as well go with a fresher but familiar voice.

I just get slightly uncomfortable when I hear that he wasn't ready or that he wasn't the right choice. Both of those reasons may very well be true. Its just that I have so little trust in who is doing the evaluating, what the are evaluating and how they are going about the evaluation process that I am forced to  at any decision made by this organization.

9 out of 10 times I would say those consulting firms that help teams hire GM's/Managers/Athletic Directors/Coaches are ridiculous because you should know your own damn organization better than anyone and be able to make an educated decision on your own. I think this is the exception and that Ricketts could have truly used and benefited from one of these consultations because of how unfamiliar he is at this stage with what it takes to make these kind of decisions. They may very well have said Quade is your man, Sandberg isn't as qualified and should continue in his current position.

I like Quade. I think he will fair well enough for what he has been given as a team. I just don't trust a single fucking work out of Hendry's mouth.

Hendry has been around awhile, that's for sure. In his defense,Soriano was not on him, from what I read. The Cubs were very good 2 years in a row under Pinella. Hendry's magic year (2003),they were 5 outs away. Many forget that game_7,they also had the lead. I think he should be replaced, though. Enough is enough.

There are alot of dumb ass Cubs fans. There are alot of dumb ass Sox fans. There are alot of dumb ass fans of just about every team out there. Since whistler has joined the board however the Cubs section has gotten even dumber than normal.

It is athletes like Ryne Sandberg & the 1985 Chicago Bears that make me proud to be a sports fan in the greatest sports city in the US. Fuckers like Tom Ricketts & Jim Hendry piss me off. If someone can prove to me that there is a huge gap in the skill set of Quade & Sandberg, fine. Is Quade is the guy that everyone believes will win the World Series? I would love to see Sandbergs performance evaluation for the last 3 years. I would be surprised if it was anything but stellar. There is a reason that Mike Quade has NEVER been a major league Manager. He has been in baseball for 30 years & not one single person thought he was the right guy to manage their team. Ricketts & Hendry must know something that no one else knows. I believe that Hendry & Quade are close personal friends, which is where the answer lies as to why the Cubs are the only team in 30 years who think Quade is a major league manager. I like Quade personally, but I look at a guy like him & see a guy who is less qualified to be a major league manager based on the number of times that he has been passed up.
Hooterville indeed...

I mentioned this a few times already. ML managers know better then to get tossed out of a game that decides your playoff faith. Sandberg did this at Iowa. Quade has managed and won at the minor league level. I think he has managed something like 2200 games. BUT John Anderson just got launched from the NHL Atlanta Thrashers after years of winning with the Wolves.

Well, to that point Bobby Cox has been ejected more than any manager in history and multiple times from playoff games. Although when you are trying to impress the major league club, it was clearly a big lapse in judgement on Ryne's part.

Do you want Mike Singletary as a coach on the Bears? Look at the amazing things he has done in San Francisco.

Being a good player doesn't make you a good coach or manager. Some of the best coaches and managers in all of the 4 major sports never played professionally...or if they did, they did so poorly.

You completely ignore my comments about Quade.

Maybe a long shot, but interesting choice if he were to end up there... see pasted blurb below.

Sandberg to manage Phillies farm team?

Passed over for the Cubs' opening, Ryne Sandberg may land on his feet with one of the NL's top teams. [Sandberg] is among the candidates for the Phillies' managerial vacancy at triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Chuck LaMar, the Phillies' assistant general manager in charge of player development, said the team has just started the process of interviewing for the managerial vacancy at Lehigh Valley. "We hope to have it filled in the near future," LaMar said. "I'm not going to comment beyond that." (Philadelphia Inquirer)
