Are you happy? I mean as a Cubs fan. Do you enjoy the games? Will you be entertained this spring by them?

only if they continue to play the kids and the games are not sold out...i want an enjoyable atmosphere with no expectations...just go out and play and endear urself to the fans, evolve into a Cub, and stay a Cub

So, play inexperienced players and continue with them as they may, or may not, evolve into decent veterans.
My next question. Why don't you want to see the Cubs compete on a Major League Level and win some playoff games?
I thought a fan would want to see those types of things.
You aren't interested in winning? Why aren't you interested in seeing the Cubs win consistantly?

Sandberg is heading back to the Phillies organization. He was named the manager of the Phillies AAA team.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/stor ... NHeadlines

Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg, a former candidate for the Chicago Cubs' manager job, has joined the Philadelphia Phillies organization as manager of their top minor league club, the Phillies announced Monday.

Sandberg, who spent most of his Hall of Fame career with the Cubs, was widely considered a favorite to succeed Lou Piniella. But the Cubs opted for Mike Quade, who managed the Cubs to a 24-13 record in the interim after Piniella abruptly retired in August.

At the time, Sandberg said he was weighing his future options.

"I spent the four years in the minor leagues to manage at the major league level, and that's where my heart is and that's what my next step is. That's where I look next. So I'll take it a step at a time and see if there's another opportunity out there and go from there," he said last month when the Cubs hired Quade.

A minor league manager in the Cubs' system for those four seasons, Sandberg was manager of the year in the Pacific Coast League with the Iowa Cubs in 2010. The team tied for first place in the PCL's Northern Division at 82-62.

Sandberg, who was drafted by the Phillies and traded to the Cubs before the 1982 season, was a 10-time National League All-Star. He won nine Gold Gloves and seven Silver Slugger awards during his 16-year career. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Myself, along with lots of Cubs fans aren't happy about this. Then again, we have the great Mike Quade as Manager so were in good shape. Quade knows a lot more about baseball than Sandberg & should win a world series for the Cub.

Not a single person here has said that. Knows more? Quade has been around the game for for just as long as Ryne. Not crazy to assume their baseball knowledge is more or less the same.

If you think Sandberg would have taken this group of overpriced veterans and young kids to the World Series you are delusional. No one is winning a world series with this team as presently constructed.

Letting Sandberg leave the organization will be one of Hendry's biggest mistakes (and that's REALLY saying something).

He offered the AAA manager job to him again and Sandberg turned it down because he didnt want to be in the minors anymore. I guess Philly's AAA ballclub is in an alternate reality where they arent a minor league club.

In an attempt to further infuriate Whister, Bobby Scales to Lehigh Valley rumors are swirling in the AAA hot stove report.

Exactly. This rift could be either guy's fault and without being there for the meetings we just have no idea why things went the direction that they did.

I'm happy for him

I'm also happy another organization took him seriously, which Hendry never did...it's really the perfect shove-it move against Hendry

I'd rather have him manage Philly's AAA team than Iowa

I root for Sandberg wherever he goes...he doesnt have to be here for me to follow or root for him

All he did was contradict himself. He said he wasnt going to the minors and he went to the minors. The Cubs did what every other team did because no one else wanted him for their major league team.

Let's say in 5 years Sandberg has the Phillies in the NLCS vs Quade's Cubs...who are you rooting for?

Probably a tie, so everyone can get juice boxes and orange wedges after the game.

2011 is Charlie Manuel's last year under contract. Ryno in 2012?

No chance. Being considered to lead a group of kids on a team that is not realistically expected to contend is far different from being considered to manage a veteran playoff caliber ball club.

No one else wanted Quade either. As a matter of fact,no one else has ever wanted Quade...except Jim Hendry.
Again, shame on Rickets for not having a fucking clue.

Sounds like nothing happened behind closed doors either. Man the three ring circus really left Ryno twisting in the wind.

Sandberg said he heard nothing from the Cubs for four days after Quade was hired, not even as much as an offer to return as manager of their Triple-A Iowa team.

I think Hendry really had a stick up his ass about this guy. For whatever reason, he didn't want Ryno anywhere near the big club.
