The game itself can be enjoyed without any mention or need to have played a previous Infinity Ward title. It is still a pretty good game.

I'm not trying to insinuate that Black Ops is the same quality as MW2. However that is only because MW2 came first.

To say that it's a rip off is kind of harsh. If you want to go that route then you can basicallty say recent CoD titles are a rip off of CounterStrike, which was a rip off of Doom, etc etc.

I guess I don't get it. You would buy an Infinity Ward map pack no problem. But you wouldn't buy this because it is too similar? I get the impression that you are making some kind of moral statement. It's just business, afterall. I actually think this is like MW2 with more balanced gameplay. For the record, I never played World at War... so perhaps you did and thought that game sucked too much?

I just can't commit the 4-6....to 12 hours a day to games like this anymore. COD4 was different. The band didn't exist then...
I barely played MW2. Never completed the single player campaign.

And while I know it will likely be fun and appreciate MUD and Ugies comments, I tend to agree with Lipid and Messed as far as the "political" reasons for a non-purchase. However, it was difficult to walk past at best buy last week while purchasing Metalocalypse Season 3.

I'll inject in here since many reasons for and against buying the game have gone around...

First off, I hate Activision...with a passion...they watered down Guitar Hero to the point that we weren't getting just one release every year...we were getting two, sometimes three...with very little changes to justify the 60 bucks...they are doing the same with Call of Duty now...I'll be shocked if we don't see at least two different CoD titles next year, by two developers that are NOT Infinity Ward...and even if, by the off chance, that what is left of Infinity Ward (which isn't much, by the way) does continue the Modern Warfare story arc, I see no way that game is anywhere near as good as the first two efforts were. Call it political, calli it moral...whatever...but I'm not going to give Activision sixty bucks when, by the actions they have taken over the last year with this franchise and with others, it is clear that making money is far more important to them than making good games.

Second, the last CoD game made by Treyarch left a really bad taste in my mouth. Instead of doing what IW did with MW2 (completely revamp the killstreak, perk and attachment systems) or even what IW did with COD4 (shift the game to a completely didn't era), Treyarch basically took COD4 (3 killstreaks, same perk system and still single attachments) and put a World War II era wrapper on it...which by the way had gotten incredibly overplayed by that point...the only innovations they gave us were vehicles (meh) and the Zombie coop mode (double 'are you fucking kidding me?' meh). While I don't think Treyarch is absolute shit ike imu does (I thought Quantum of Solace was a pretty fun shooter), there is a clear disparity between the talent at that studio versus what used to be Infinity Ward.

Finally, and these really are the biggest drivers of any of the reasons for me: time and money. Reach is still my go to game...it's left the tray in my Xbox twice since it came out...and I don't see that increasing any time soon...at least not with DLC on the horizon and more ranks to unlock. As I mentioned in another thread, I've already got a great Call of Duty game (two in fact) that I can go to when I want to scratch that itch that I get for the occasional more realistic shooter, but it's not an itch that comes around very often right now, so why would I shell out 60 bucks for something that, honestly, I will play very little, if at all, during the typical week?

So yes, I can appreciate what some of you guys are saying about how fun it is, and maybe I am being too picky, but damnit I'd like to see a little more innovation from the games I play before I'm going to drop sixty bucks on a title in a franchise once a year. Maybe I'll do like I did with COD4 and pick it up a year after everyone has played it and the party is damn near over, but I'm definately not planning on buying it any time soon.

I don't tend to really care too much who makes my video games. If it's fun, and the game has a high replay value, then I will give it a shot. IW perfected the franchise, yes. But Black Ops has still been enjoyable for me.

Agree 100%

As long as the game is fun and I can play it over and over I have no issue with who the hell makes the game. I've enjoyed the short time i've been playing CODBO

I will wait until I get to a level above 16? Is that when I get out of fucking Nuke Town? It's like playing hide and go seek in one room! Someone gets an attack copter and the game is over!

If you do team death matches you wont ever see that map.

Edit: well, I've never seen that map anyway...

I don't know. I just look at this game as a MW2 map pack with all the shitty parts about MW2 fixed. Yeah, it's not a huge leap forward in innovation, but it is definitely a more fun game to play than MW2, in my opinion. The leveling system is improved. The maps are great. The customization of your character is kinda fun. Zombie mode is a nice diversion and all the easter egg games are pretty cool too. So I think you're getting a lot more for your money than you did with MW2.

This is a very good way to sum it all up, and I agree 100%.

It certainly blows BFBC2 out of the water.

Oh wow... let's not compare a kid's fingerpainting to the Mona Lisa now.

If all my buddies weren't playing Black Ops now, I'd be taking down buildings for a Destruction 2.0 kill. BFBC2... the gold standard of online gaming.

I mean no disrespect Messed, but have you actually played Black Ops yet? It seems that you would have a better understanding of what we mean if you have tried it out.

Sell your MW2 and with the difference you'll have an appropriately priced map pack AND a better game.

I played ground war for five hours yesterday( ) and never saw that map once... I remember for mw2 I could never play rust in that game mode so maybe I thought it was the same deal...

Exactlly. Why should I give a shit who made the game or who is getting "screwed" behind the scenes. People want good games...

Some things just don't need to be said 8)

But when games cost as much as they do, and take up time like they do...I want to play the best. It is the spoiled PC gamer in me.

But you haven't even played the game! I don't care how many games you say you've played in your life. How can you pass judgement with such certainty on something you have yet to even try?

I have no problem with IMU suggesting he'd rather reward companies who do innovative things. I also respect not wanting to throw around $60 at everything that is released. I highly respect both of those. But as Krazy Ivan suggested, you really can't pass judgement on the gameplay (e.g., killstreaks and game modes) until you've played.

I mean hell, it works both ways too. I thought Halo: Reach was fantastic when I first purchased the game, and it was entirely because I thought it was going to be that good prior to even playing it. However, I was disappointed in many things with the game and quickly grew tired of it despite all the hype.

I again admit that I was very skeptical about Black Ops for many of the same reasons IMU and lipid have expressed. I have been very pleasantly surprised.

Killl streaks are a definite improvement, IMHO. The RC Car, Valkyrie Rockets and SR-71 Blackbird are great. I do like the attack dogs too. And if all you told me about this game is that there were no more speedy lunging knifers, I'd say it was an immensely better game. And I also enjoy the COD dollars to be spent on customizing your guy. NERD ALERT, I do like my smiley face reticle with my Apache face paint and my clan tag and emblems etched into my gun.

IMU, you are obviously entitled to your opinion and I respect that. If you don't want to spend the money, then don't. However to suggest that it is not "worth" your time or dollars is kind of contradictory. You spent the money on MW2, and if you think this is the same game with added features (which you wouldn't know until you play it), then maybe you are justified in not spending more money on "the same thing".

All I think MuD and I are saying is that this isn't just another WaW.

Anyone else having trouble sniping in Multiplayer? I don't know what it is, but unless I'm using the multiple zoom scope on full power, I can't get a hit to save my life, my aim is good, but I can't even get body shots... Maybe its a psn problem or something...

I can proudly say that I have sniped once in that game. I leave my sniping for BFBC2 where it belongs. I don't get how you can successfully snipe on maps this small.

Do people still run around sniping people that are only a few feet away from them? That shit really pissed me off in MW2.

That was one of the fixes apparently. Must've worked because I don't see it on Black Ops so far.
