The guy who owns the building is named Mike O'malley (?)....huge lurker by the way...and he always had a deal cut with the HC Management Team to run the place for him for a set fee with a % on top of that. The issue the 2 sides had was with the % and the reporting of those numbers.

So the 2 sides couldn't agree and the cancel the managment agreement. Sounds like this guy always owned the liquor license under Benchwarmers, Inc. so whe an operator leaves he retains the LL, it's the smart way to own real estate that has a bar. So, at this point the name Benchwarmers is what is in play unless he cuts another deal with someone else.

Can't say I know the guy but my minimal talks with him, he has been quite a prick. Plus, you have not seen an "ALS'er" till you have seen this guy in action! He licks Carm, Jurko and Harry all at the same time! The radio guys have to be nice to him because he is a client and not going to credit this quote to who said it but "The guy is a huge stroke"

He also cut the deal the Ricketts family for that Capt Morgan Club and it was a joint venture between him and the HC Management group. I think he paid for it, HC's runs it and all 3 split the revenues, plus the Cubs got rent. So not surer which way that is going.

Can go to any Wrigleyville remote for any show (Not Lohos) and this guy is there, always off to the side, too coool for the room, etc.

While I've never met the man personally, I have some employees who left to work for him at Hi-Tops on Lincoln a couple of years back. So I can't personally call him a douche bag, but from what they told me he seems to be a cheap racist douche bag. Fun things like payroll checks bouncing while he rents out an entire floor at the Luxor in Vegas, renting expensive cars to seem more wealthy than he actually is, and the coup de grace, he on more than one occasion he insisted that the DJ change the music because he was disgusted by all the "chocolate faces" dancing in the front window and didn't want to encourage that element to hang out in a place he owned. If all that is true, which I have no reason to doubt, he seems like a real peach of a guy.

Like I said, my personal interactions with the guy showed what a DB he was. Then when people who know him told me the same thing, all I needed to hear.

The reason it is the "?" Tavern now is the disagreement between Grant DePorter who seems to have an excellent reputation and this Omalley guy who doesn't.
