Briefly heard this but can't say for sure if it is accurate but has the bears-jets game will not be moved to 3:15 from its original time of 12:00. Trying to pull Bears and Hawsk double header that day. Let me know if anyone knows anything about this

Not sure about that game. The Bears/Pats game has been moved to 3:15.

I heard that the Bears Jets game will remain at 12:00....

The Bears/Green Bay game is the one that is being mentioned as a possibility to be flexed to 7:00 on NBC.

I just checked ChicagoBears.com, and there haven't been any updates to the schedule. I know there was speculation on the radio, but I don't think the changes like this are announced until about 2 weeks out.

I don't believe there is a 7:00 game scheduled that night on NBC at all, is there? I don't think they will flex that GB game to a slot that doesn't exist.

Correct. No week 17 Sunday night game.

Where's SHARK when you need him?

The NFL allows NBC on Week 17 of the season to pick a game that has playoff implications.

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/tv/flexible

Quote:
NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

Begins Sunday of Week 11

In effect during Weeks 11-17

Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.

The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.

The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or

Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.

No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.

The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.

Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.

The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.

Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.

NFL schedules all games.

Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.

NY Jets and Giants games don't usually get moved from 12:00 to 3:15 because those two teams can't play at the same time (unless it's against one another), per NFL rules. Giants are already scheduled at 3:15 against Green Bay that week.

Factually speaking, the final week of the NFL regular season is a doubleheader for both of the NFL's Sunday afternoon partners, FOX Sports & CBS Sports. In previous years, NBC Sports would air the final regular season game of the NFL season and one with playoff implications. I think because the "Peacock" had the guts to air the Steelers/Saints' game opposite Game 4 of the Giants/Rangers World Series, there won't be such a "SNF" finale this year. I also know that ESPN doesn't have a "Monday Night Football" game either on the final weekend of the NFL's regular season.

I love ya SHARK, but which part of what I typed a few posts up that you didn't understand? There WILL be a Week 17 game Sunday Night Game, it just has not been announced yet. The Bears and Packers game is the one being considered....

I'm gonna side w/ SHARK on this one. There will not be a SNF game because NBC used up their allotment of games on the game opposite the World Series this year, which they have not done in the past.

Please prove that.

I have no written proof, but look at the list of games.....

Carolina at Atlanta
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
NY Giants at Washington
Cincinnati at Baltimore
Jacksonville at Houston
Minnesota at Detroit
Chicago at Green Bay
Tennessee at Indianapolis
Oakland at Kansas City
Miami at New England
Tampa Bay at New Orleans
Buffalo at NY Jets
Dallas at Philadelphia
Arizona at San Francisco
St. Louis at Seattle
San Diego at Denver

Right now, I don't see another game that would garner ratings, except for maybe Dallas @ Philly....but again, NBC can pick whichever game they want...there is no "protection" for FOX or CBS.

You tell me redskingreg, which game looks to be best, plus would (more importantly) get the boffo ratings....

I have facts on my side. SHARK and NIUHUSpanky are going on a "hunch".

I know I'm not a wordsmith like Tall Midget or Don Tiny, or give essays on NCAA Football and Basketball like IB, but I'm a nerd when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Do you say that because you don't think NBC can show a game or because NBC won't want any of the games available to them?

I'm saying it because I don't think NBC can show a game that night.

If they usually have 17 night games a year for however many millions of $ they spent (the opening Thursday plus 16 regular season Sunday nights - they usually skip the Sunday opposite the WS as SHARK mentioned) - they will have already used their 17 by week 17 because they had a game on WS Sunday this year.

Honestly just a guess on my part. If they can show one, they will, no doubt. Even if it's the worst game if the weekend.

FOund this on wikipedia...take it for what it's worth...

The 2010 schedule, released April 20, places a Sunday night game (Pittsburgh Steelers at New Orleans Saints) against a World Series game for the first time since the NBC-Sunday night contract began. It also continues the previous practice of scheduling a Sunday night game during every week of the season, and declaring the games in Weeks 11 through 16 (November 21 through December 26) as "flex games", meaning they will revert to Sunday afternoon if a more attractive matchup arises. The past practice of leaving the last Sunday night of the season—January 2, 2011—open continues; the slot is typically filled by a game whose winner gets the last playoff spot in a given conference.

Sounds like they are showing one to me.

I told you - I'm guessing. I have to be right. There is no other option.

If they do show a game that night, it will be because I said they could.

Per nfl.com there is flex schedule week 17 this year.

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/tv/flexible
Quote:
Flexible Scheduling

Allows teams to play their way onto the Sunday night schedule

In 2006, the NFL implemented a primetime "flexible scheduling" element on Sundays in Weeks 10-15 and in Week 17.

Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups on Sunday night in those weeks and gives surprise teams a chance to play their way onto primetime.

The 2010 NFL schedule will again utilize flexible scheduling in Weeks 11-17. The NBC Sunday night time slot for "flex" weeks will list the game tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.

Only Sunday afternoon games are eligible to be moved to Sunday night, in which case the tentatively scheduled Sunday night game will be moved to an afternoon start time. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games airing on Thursday, Saturday or Monday nights.

Just as the six major college football conferences have done for many years, the NFL will have the flexibility to move the start times of games on Sundays, using a 12-day notice format.

For example, a game scheduled for a Sunday could move from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to an 8:15 p.m. start, but the change would be made and announced no later than the prior Tuesday, 12 days prior.

The NFL has commonly moved games between 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoons, and the NFL now employs flexible scheduling to include one of its primetime packages of games -- on Sunday evenings.

Sunday afternoon games, as in the past, can still be moved between 1:00 and 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.

In Week 17, in order to ensure a Sunday night game with playoff implications, the decision to move the start time may be made on six days notice.

NFL Flexible Scheduling 101

* Begins Sunday of Week 11
* In effect during Weeks 11-17
* Only Sunday afternoon games are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window.
* The game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night during flex weeks will be listed at 8:15 p.m. ET.
* The majority of games on Sundays will be listed at 1:00 p.m. ET during flex weeks except for games played in Pacific or Mountain Time zones which will be listed at 4:05 or 4:15 p.m. ET.
* No impact on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night games.
* The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.
* Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.
* The NBC Sunday night time slot in "flex" weeks will list the game that has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night.
* Fans and ticket holders must be aware that NFL games in flex weeks are subject to change 12 days in advance (6 days in Week 17) and should plan accordingly.
* NFL schedules all games.
* Teams will be informed as soon as they are no longer under consideration or eligible for a move to Sunday night.
