I rather doubt Boers and Bernstein will be dancing in the streets.
You can bet Bernstein will give a tribute to Santo that will be hard to match......and in the spirit of the show, he will accept a phone call from YOU and rip you to shreds.

Very sad news.

This afternoon, I expect some patronizing head-patting about how now we Cubs fans can graduate to having a real analyst, while his station puts forth Ed Farmer and Darrin Jackson.

Ron wasn't very good at his job but his love for the Cubs should never
be questioned. The guy wore his heart on his sleeve and was an easy
target for anyone who wanted to take a shot at him. I respect that and
in some ways that is the way I live my life. As inept as he was in the
booth a lot of the times, I'll miss his homerism and true love for a team
that gave him a chance. I'm not sure he belongs in the hall of fame but
he'll be remembered by a few generations of Cub fans as being the
ultimate fan who had the best seat in the park. Rest in Peace Ronnie.

He was an awful "broadcaster", but he was a Cubs icon. He had a passion for baseball and wore his heart on his sleeve. With all that he went thru health wise, he might have been on borrowed time anyway. I'm sure he's in a better place now.

Santo was great for the Cubs and the old time fans, but I heard a guy on M&H this morning say that the Sox should postpone the Adam Dunn press conference because of his passing.

 Really? I mean, I would think WGN is likely going to air the funeral if its public. There will probably be some sort of memorial service at Wrigley soon as well. There is no reason for the Sox (or Bears, or Bulls, etc etc) to postpone anything for Ron Santo.

B&B killed him.

In other news Santo asked in his Last Will and Testament that his head be Cryogenically Preserved so that he can be brought back to life when he is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

If Pippen can make it in, then just about anyone can.

In all seriousness, it is sad to see the guy has passed. It would have been nice for him to retire about 5 years ago and be able to spend some more time with his family. He was clearly finished as a broadcaster and many people would probably remember him better if he walked away at an earlier time. Besides Ernie Banks, Santo could probably also be considered Mr. Cub. He was a part of the organization for most of his life, and deserves all the great tributes he will be receiving.

It's a bummer. Say what you want about his skills as a broadcaster but the broadcasts with Pat were some of the highlights of some pretty craptacular seasons of Cubs baseball during my lifetime. As a Cubs fan this saddens me but Ron with all of his health problems its hard to say that this is unexpected but Ron very well might be getting spared from watching some terrible seasons of Ricketts lead baseball. I hope he is in a much better place. R.I.P.

funny, I was thinking yesterday how the Cubs made no effort to sign Dunn and were gonna resign themselves to an average year...then my mind shifted to what Santo would be thinking of that, and how he will just be flat out miserable in the booth everyday

well my answer came the next day...he was not gonna be able to deal with it at all, and God knew it

There was a part of me that held out hope that you were really Ron Santo. I am now disappointed.

how symbolic

the last few years of his life mirrored the Cubs fate

he had a great career, but always fell short of making the HOF...he kept hoping, but the last couple years of his life, he finally resigned himself to being OK with not making the HOF

similarly, the Cubs, had one last gasp in them with the Piniella era, came so close in 2007 and 2008, but failed to win the Series...by the time the Piniella era ended, the air was out of the balloon and the Cubs have resigned themselves to rebuilding and cost-cutting

Santo passes away, just as the Cubs hopes in the Piniella/big-free-agent era have also passed away
