I caught a minute of this as I flipped on the radio to AM instead of FM. Larry took the "family to feed" defense of players vs. owners, saying that they may make more money, but they pay more taxes, too. Hi, they pay more taxes precisely because they make more money. If you think they should make more to offset their high taxes, their taxes are just going to go up as well.

I didn't hear it, but why doesn't Dez save his money so he can buy is own damn insurance once he retires. He makes 2 or 3 million a year. Been in the NFL for 10 years. I don't care if half of that goes to taxes, he still can save and invest enough to be set for life if he's not an idiot. He can have enough to buy private insurance once he's done.

He's pretty healthy this year. He doesn't play anymore.

So Larry jumped to Dez's defense when the caller posed a perfectly legit question? Caller was right for pointing out that Dez is a fucking idiot if he expects insurance for life from the NFL after he no longer works for the NFL. But, of course, Larry won't call out a black member of the Bears for "meatball" thoughts. Only the lowley callers.

Also, does dumb ass Dez realize he's paying for insurance now? They take out of his check for whatever plan they have. So you're paying for it now just like you'll have to when you're retired. Maybe more if it's private, but you're still paying for it now.

No he isn't. I didn't hear that part of the show but I think it is a perfectly reasonable expectation. I know several executives who have negotiated it into their contract, even including children.

Then maybe Dez shouldve been an executive somewhere instead of football player. Welcome to the real world Dez, where 99% of America wont retire until 65 ( if at all) because they have to wait for medicare to kick in because they cant afford the bridge insurance if they retire at 62. And the whole " our lives are on the line " thing is a fucking insult to anyone who works a job where their lives really are on the line, and the people who do those jobs make about 20% of what a NFL player makes , so give it a fucking rest huh.

Then Dez needs to become an exec after he's done and get that deal. Right now he's just labor so he's the same as everybody else. Welcome to the real world Dez. Save and invest your money and you'll be fine. I know they put their bodies on the line but they know that going in. Nobody makes them do it. They get paid a lot for it.

By the way, the NFL gives you a pension after so many years. Dez qualifies. So that money can go to insurance when he's done. OJ is still getting his pension.

By the way, when current retired players asked for money from the NFL players assosiation, the PA told them to go to hell. So Dez should know about how things work. The players didn't want money coming out of their checks to take care of older players that paved the way for them just like the owners don't want to pay for it. And the players in the 60s, 70s and 80s didn't make huge money.

Owners don't want to do it and neither do players.

Do you know how expensive it would be to insure all NFL retired players? Especially when they're high risk in their 60s, 70s and 80s. When they have normal health problems not related to playing in the NFL. What if Dez were told 15 percent has to come out of his check now to cover that? I know that's not what he's thinking. He's thinking owners cover that tab. Shit, it's a good idea if I don't pay for it. That's what dumb ass Dez is thinking. Well, if he doens't want to, then why would the owners?

So the bottom line is they need to save their money and/or get jobs when their done. What a novel idea. None of them want to do that, though.

As a previous poster wrote, it could be negotiated as part of their CBA. It would certainly make sense to do so. Again, he is not an idiot for wanting it.

You're right. They can ask for whatever they want. But for Dez to say he can't afford insurance for him and his family once he retires is an insult to everybody listening. Sumbitch has probably made 15-20 million in his NFL career. He should have a house paid for, no debt and have a couple of million in the bank, at least.
