I was touting Silvy as one of the best in the business and the Silvy and Carmen show as one of the sports talk shows in Chicago? I was blasted by just about every single poster on the board. Its funny how many people have spoken up in this section over the last year or two about how great that show was or even how "Silvy is the bast in the biz." Especially some that strongly disagreed with me and the few of you who agreed, but were too worried to back me and get the board criticism. You are all Jerry Angelo's. I am Bill Polian. :geek:

I agreed with you, Silvy was great and still is pretty good. He is probably the best interviewer on the air. However, he has drastically become ESPN'ized.

Is this show still on the air?

You were wrong then and imo you are wrong now. Silvy is still a sports know nothing (unless it's in today's Trib) whose whiny voice & persona won't allow him the meatball HOF position he so covets.

True Rick. But on the board I read this crap all the time about Silvy being one of the best from people who couldn't have disagreed with me more and act like they've always had that thought. Fin to stir the pot every now and then. How's Purdue doing?

And 12 of those have less than 5 posts. Go figure.

So many times I hear silvy give a ''sigh''', as he almost needs to catch himself or think about what he is going to say so he doesn't get fired.

Mornings? Score? With Mully? Just sayin'

Having Silvy in the AM slot on WSCR would be awesome, IMO.

Agreed with you then Woodridge. For whatever reason, W&S hasn't clicked with me. Not sure if it's Waddle himself or the fact that Silvy comes across as more goofy or sillier when with Waddle. I think Silvy and Carmen was a much better pairing... two young... now middle age guys keeping each other on their toes.

Still want W&S to do well. Met Silvy a few times. Real nice guy and unlike other talk personalities of the past (and probably present), he is level headed and real. I tend to root for the good guys. He is one of them in radio.

this may sound weird...i'm still trying to formulate how i feel about the state of chicago radio in general.

it just seems like everybody's gotta have this "personality" rather than just engage fans. i realize the obvious--you have to have a personality, or develop one. but this comes off as schtick and no one does it better than ESPN radio. everybody's got a "thing". and with waddle & silvy, it still can be very "catty" or schticky. waddle comes off almost as a pundit, someone who just says stuff for the sake of it. and silvy is still second banana and plays down to it.

silvy & carmen were not an act. they played off each other very well.

one thing i always liked listening to WIP for was that it's not as schticky. it's about the phone calls, the fans, guests, etc. there are schticks but there always in in radio. sometimes it seems like it's more about the radio personality than it is about the sports and fans aspect.

Agree, Waddle is a waste of a big check on a guy who brngs nothing much to the table for my taste, but is looks good on the National roster when you have the ex player, current NFL Network guy in the fold.

Overall, nothing worse than Forced Radio Sports Talk. The host not taking calls, trying to set a tone for a show with his very unique point that only he thinks is unique. This seems to be almost every show that is not on at the main times.

I'm not sure of the quality of callers in Philly, but most of the callers in Chicago suck. If it isn't someone who can barely talk, it's someone trying to impress with wordy nonsense, or someone with a bad connection, or someone trying to turn his 15 second call into Night at the Improv. I could do without the caller-intensive shows. That reminds me of Sporting New Radio at midnight or something.

I think its worth a reminder that W&S is a decent show, especially when considering that the time slot belonged to Salisbury and Rosenbloom a few years ago.

the quality of callers of any sports show anywhere are typically not good. WFAN in NY has equal amount of boneheads. but sometimes they're more entertaining. it's the screeners to blame sometimes.

some of the people put on the air on B&B are put there on purpose, so that they can feel better about themselves and more intelligent. they keep people on the air where most guys would dump them immediately.
