Darwin Barney is almost certain to make the team? Really? That 2.8 M for the SHARK is money well spent. And I could have sworn that Silva was making more than 6M. Wasn't he making like 12 last year?

Knew I should have fact checked. Let me look up some of these. I thought Silva had a 4/48 deal.

Edit: Reading something that the M's paid 5.5 of that next year for some sort of prorated bonus.

I'm sorry, I just find the $13mil to Kosuke, the $2.8mil to a college wide receiver, the almost $5mil to Grabow, and the $18mil to Soriano hilarious.

The funny thing about the Fukudome contract is that reports were Kenny was offering more than the Cubs for him when they signed him.......but I wouldn't expect Frank to bring that up.

I remember the Sox were going after him, but I don't remember hearing that the Sox were offering more.

I guess sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make. I'd be all over Kenny if he signed a 4th OF for that kind of money as well.

Obviously the Fukudome signing didn't work out. But there was alot of interest in him at the time. He is an alright player just vastly overpaid. If he was making 3M I wouldnt mind having him on the team.

I can confirm hearing/reading the Sox willingness to pay more for Fukudome rumor. I would have been willing to see his price tag at $6 million and I don't think I would have had a huge problem with it. That would have been reasonably overpaid.

me too...makes me laugh everytime i think about it

to see how Hendry acted like a dumb giddy schoolgirl when signing some of these guys

even signing Daryl Ward from his hospital bed makes me laugh...the guy is always trying to portray himself as "trying"

yeah, don't forget that he also got a 2.5mil signing bonus along with his 5yr/$10mil deal....for being drafted in the 5th round (149 overall) by the cubs. i think that kind of deal for a 5th round pick is virtually unheard of.

also, it's a telling sign that his wikipedia page still prominently features a picture of him as a notre dame WR.

It was especially true because the guy had a 4+ ERA in college.

Unlike Frank, I don't find this funny. I WANT the Cubs fans to begin every year with hope only to see if dashed. For the past few years I have almost been sympathetic for them as they walk through any baseball discussion knowingly defeated....and knowing it will be that way for at least 1-2 more years.

Yet another in a long line of asshole Sox fans who care more about what the Cubs do than their own team. That ring is getting pretty small in the rear view, eh?

Your great GM offered Kosuke $15M

I don't understand why they backloaded so much(it was only a 2 year 7.5M deal). As a signing, it was fine. He had a string a good years as a left handed middle/set up man. Last year was his first truly awful year which makes his 2011 salary look so miserable.

If he bounces back to any of his previous years (65-75 innings with an ERA below 4.25), Cubs fans would be happy with that.

Left handed pitchers are not cheap. Guys like Scott Downs, JC Romero pull in 4M a year. He's overpaid compared to them, but given his past, he was in the ballpark as being one of the better LHP coming out of the pen.

Plus there are very few relievers that are consistent year to year. Guys have awesome years and then tank the next.

Grabow reminds me of remlinger. Old. Bad. Goatee. Can't get lefties out. Signed to a contract that overpays him for his mediocre ability.
