Cubs fans across the nation were stunned and heartbroken at the sudden passing of Wrigley Field icon Ron Santo, who dazzled a generation of Cubs fans with his play on the field, and endeared himself to even more with his work in the broadcasting booth. David Spada and Elliott Harris pay tribute to Ron the player, Ron the broadcaster, and Ron the man with former teammates Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Milt Pappas, Glenn Beckert and Don Kessinger. Go to the Spada page at the Mike North Entertainment Network at http://www.northtonorth.com to listen.

Yeah I mean talk about someone with no history of health problems taken in the prime of their life. Truly shocking.

At first I read this as "Ron Santo with cohost Elliott Harris and Me", and I was thinking Now That's a Show!

Biggie can you at least move these bullshit threads to "plugs sell something"? Spada the great sure as hell doesn't fall under any of the "daily shows" or WSCR,ESPN,WBBM,COMCAST. Much as his mommy tells him if he keeps trying one day he will be.

LOL OK PLEASE STOP NOW! Not you specifically, but all the Cub FAns.

I wasn't born to see Santo play, and my dad's generation loved him, so that is all i got to go off of regarding his playing days.

But what is this guy's legacy?
-Being part of the most overrated losers named the 69 Cubs.
-Being a douchebag of a teammate - read that 1969 book (Talley)
-Whining for years how he should be in the HOF.
-Being a terrible announcer.
-Milking the lovable losers cubs tradition into a nice pay day.

Yea, I know it's all sacrilege what I just typed, but isn't it also the truth? Now getting ready for all the hateful responses........

Yea, raising millions of dollars for JDRF makes him a asshole. Flying kids year after year to his ranch on his dime makes him a douchebag or maybe the fact that he paid for insulin and other diabetic supplies for families who couldn't afford it is surely worth of slapping him around after he died.

Guy wasn't perfect, who is? He sucked as a announcer, no doubt, do you believe everything you read? The book is good, but working in the same place for 15 years like he did as a player, you are going to piss someone off, just like most of them did. The whole milking the lovable loser thing into a nice payday thing, well, if they are offering, who wouldnt take it, I suspect we all would do the same thing.

My point is that he filled the biggest church in the city today, that says something, you can dislike him all you want, but let me ask you this, how many times did you meet him? I met him through JDRF several times, the guy always had time for whoever approached him, never saw him do anything that could make me change my high opinion of him.

Like I said, you can have your opinion of him, not a hateful reply, but since I doubt you ever spent one second with him and relying nothing more then opinion, I find it shallow.

And for the record, WGN or all the local media have gone overboard in coverage and some of the cub fans, for sure, but my approach was to ignore it, not take petty shots at a dead guy.

Add Santo as just one more guy who wouldn't give Spada the time of day while he was drawing a breath.

I can imagine Spada one of two ways in a Law School class.....He's either the nerd looking at football cards or the GUNNER....the douchebag reading three cases ahead with his hand constantly in the air to get the Prof's attention to try and show the World how smart he is.

Santo could not come on my show since his WGN contract prohibited him from appearing on other stations.

omer marconi.

also, quite honestly i am sick of ron santo tributes and retrospectives and moments of silence and all of that he died over a damn week ago and it's like i can't escape his death. i went to a bulls game last saturday and i had to be silent for 20 seconds because this dead cub finally got around to the afterlife.

that said, if ronnie ended up going to hell (gasp! who would think such a thing?) i think he'd probably be forced to live games 5-7 of the 2003 NLCS over and over and over again, kind of like he movie groundhog day... actually, holy shit, that'd be an entertaining premise right there. someone make a movie where ronnie is stuck in those three games over and over and over and he keeps trying to get the cubs to win, but no matter what he does they always lose and/or he ends up screwing things up worse in a zany and kooky comical fashion.
