Watching da bull last night and discussing the hot stove actions in baseball with some friends. One guy mentions that he recently saw an article that Garland admitted to taking performance enhancers during the 2005 season with the Sox. This was news to me. He couldn't produce the article via blackberry. Has anyone seen or heard this before? I had not.

The guy typically knows what he is talking about, or I would have just dismissed this as crap.

I also agree that if the story were true and published anywhere in the US, someone in Chicago media would have picked it up. I think it would be a huge deal if an active player admitted to using performance enhancers for a WS team. I thought it entirely possible that I just missed the story.

The dude is a Red Sox fan! He lives here now and is more of a fan of the White Sox than any other professional team in town.

Keyser, Frank and Ag Bob come on now. This was a legitimate question and it really didn't matter what team the guy played for. If Garland actually admitted to taking PED's, which does NOT seem to be the case, it would have been big news. How many professional players freely admit to using PED's while still playing (exception to those under oath or already busted)? IF the story were true, I would find Garland to be a more interesting player AND it really doesn't matter who he played for.

Surprised Hooterville has not mentioned which team he came from. Damned Cubs dirtied him before he came to the beloved I guess. HOOTERVILLE.

To be clear my initial post wasn't an accusation. I don't think this thread got to the point. Blame the author. IF Garland, or any other ACTIVE baseball player freely admitted to using PED's it would be a story. Some dude said he thought he read a story Garland (an active player) admitted to using in 2005. Admission by an active player who is not forced into the statement would be a thing. Maybe a good thing? I didn't know if Garland had come clean so to speak. It was not an accusation of him or any other player.

FTR source is/was reliable in most cases with zero ax to grind. Time has passed and I think now he was wrong about the Garland story, and so does he.

Who knows. Lots of players took steroids. Lots of players still take them. Right now growth hormone peptides are undetectable. I would imagine many players run at least a cycle in the offseason.
