That's sexist

That's probably where we differ, because I love the 30-second snippets. I can usually tell within 15 seconds whether I will like a song or not (I have very specific musical standards). In any case, the song is probably on YouTube anyway so even the 30-second cuts are obsolete now.

...because you say so. This is a fantastic album, not sure what it's missing or lacking. Sure he's an asshole, but his music doesn't suffer because of it...

College Dropout is an instant classic. Beats and ryhmes were raw coming from a guy trying to break through. He blew up greatly from that album and it changed who he was. Even still, Late Registration was a great follow-up where he answered critics by creating a bunch of non-sample beats and growing as a rapper. Graduation was very good and 808's and Heartbreaks is easily his weakest effort (even though I love it). That said, if College Dropout is #1 this is 1a. Maybe an aditional listen or two would change your mind.....maybe not.

I have been told by Mr. Wu-Tang to check out Only Buillt 4 Cuban Linx 2 as well. We'll see if it can break into the Krazy Top 5...

I found out about Minus the Bear from Stinkfinger I think, right around the time their guitar player had a small article in one of the guitar mags. When Menos El Oso came out...probably late 05ish?

That's why I really like those guys. the guitar player is AWESOME and I like the singer's voice.
He does a ton of live looping with Boss Loop Stations. It's crazy to see him play live. Lot's of two-handed tapping for melodies...but, very tasteful.

Torrents are samples of food at top-notch restaurants. The food isn't that good after all? You walk out. If it is good, you stay and spend some money...maybe tell a few friends and they also spend some money.

That analogy would be good except for the part that if I walked into a top-notch restaurant and tried to sample whatever I wanted without paying for it, I'd get thrown out...

Except that the powers that be in the music industry want to have it both ways. Now that perfect digital files are available they're suddenly telling me that when I bought that copy of Some Girls in 1978 I wasn't really buying the actual record, I was buying a license to the material. Since I've already paid for it, I should be able to download "Far Away Eyes" as many fucking times as I want, right?

5. DeepChord presents Echospace, "Liumin" - Didn't reach the heights (or depths) of The Coldest Season (2007) but these guys are still way ahead of just about everyone else.

4. Aybee, "Ancient Tones" - Ultimate headphone high. Cassette release by Further Records out of Seattle.

3. John Roberts, "Glass Eights" - Brilliant house music. Timeless stuff.

2. Sun Araw, "On Patrol" - Get meta.

1. Beach House, "Teen Dream" - Beautiful songs.

---

If interested, I'm putting together a few mixes of my favorite singles of the year. First one is up & available to stream/download if you click right damn here

8) Those were the only 4 albums I bought this year that were released in 2010.
If I need to make it 5 I would probably add the new Jack Johnson album, although I
didn't find it to be as good as In Between Dreams or Sleep Through The Static.

He's too busy raping and crossbreeding
His own people accuse him of deceiving and misleading
Causing mass confusion.

A jazz singer/poet who was very prominent during the late-60s through mid-70s black consciousness movement. A lot of his music is very civil rights/fight the establishment-based and his poetry is credited (along with the group, The Last Poets) with helping to lay the foundation for what would eventually become Hip Hop. His most popular song/poem is called "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". He also often sang and wrote in opposition of things like the Vietnam war, poverty, and police brutality. My pops had a lot of his records.

One of my favorites:
Home is Where the Hatred Is
Some may remember this song as a sample from Kanye's Late Registration.
