From Mully's piece in today's Sun-Times:

''I feel like, for some reason, I have more hurdles to go through than most first-round quarterbacks have had as far as gaining respect,'' Grossman said.

Uh.... perhaps it's because of the roller coaster ride on which you've taken us? I'd take an 85 rating every week over a 110 one week, followed by a number less than 40 the next. He's like me on the tee box. I either hit it 310 in middle of the fairway or right in the lumber yard.

And wouldn't you much rather just take a measily 245 yard drive, but right in the middle of the fairway? I'm trying to find out what this city owes Rex Grossman because he has this attitude like we owe him something.

THIS WAS YOUR FIRST FULL SEASON PLAYING AFTER BEING IN THE LEAGUE FOR FOUR YEARS!

Hey, let's talk about Rex...

OK, I'll bite. Don't you want your QB to be cocky/overconfident? I hope Grossman feels disrespected because he thinks he's the best QB in the NFL and nobody sees it (notice I say "he thinks" not "I think").

I'd rather have that than a guy slinking in the corner and apologizing for his performances, asking for another chance.

Let him be pissed. Let him think he has something to prove - that he knows something we don't see. I don't think he's whining. I think he's pissed.

Dr, I think this...

is untrue. I think Grossman is too concerned about not getting ripped on Chicago. I don't even think he is in the mind frame of being the best QB in the NFL and he's going to prove us all wrong. I think all that stuff has been pushed to the side. He is in me vs them mode and I don't even think he knows what its about anymore.

I'd rather hit from the lumber yard than really thick rough.

I'm for a Bad Rex and Good Rex forum. It would prevent the senseless back and forth that goes on at nauseam.

I probably overstated my case to make the point Ryan but what I'm saying is that he feels he's better than he is being given credit for and it's pissing him off to have to hear people ripping on him when the team is 14-3 and playing to go to the Super Bowl and he has been instrumental in winning many of those games, including Playoff game #1.

Added to that the hysteria last year over getting someone in to play QB that can handle the position and I think he doesn't get it and I guess neither do I.

I was thinking about a Grossman Parody of this title once. It would go something like:

"Let's talk about Rex, baby
Let's talk about starting Griese
Let's talk about all the good plays and the bad plays
That we see
Let's talk aboooouuut Rex
Let's talk about Rex"

Aside from erratic play, Rex is everything we could ever want in an athlete in this city. He is honest with the media and he does not shove the blame off on his teammates or anyone else. When he sucks, he stands up there and says it to the world. He worked his ass off to come back from some tough injuries and, contrary to your initial post, I do not think he has 'whined' nearly as much as he is entitled to have about this ridiculous lack of respect business.

Rex has done things that no quarterback in this city has ever done, at least in my short lifetime, and despite having the best game of any quarterback in the playoffs last weekend, it seems that an overwhelming amount of Bears fans are still suffering from acute Rex anxiety, and I do not think that is fair to the poor guy. He is not perfect. He is not one of the best quarterbacks in the game. He is, however, the best Bears qb of recent vintage and brought this team as close to a Superbowl as they have been in a long time and I think he absolutely deserves some credit for that, which would be a stark contrast from the overly-critical fans who are still demanding Brian Griese or Kyle Orton to come in and 'manage the game.'

We revere Jim McMahon. Rex is close to Glory (RE: SuperBowl) than any other QB since so let's look at their season stats.

Jimmy---Rexy

Attempts Jim=313 Rex=480 (no surprise there. More runs in '85)
Comp% Jim=56.9 Rex=54.6 (not much difference there)
P-Yards Jim=2392 Rex=3193 (WOW! almost 1,000 more yards!)
TD's= Jim=15 Rex=23 (Big difference there.)
INT's Jim=11 Rex=20 (There's the rub)

By the way both Jim McMahon and Rex were in ther 4th year during these runs. By the end of the 85 season Mc played 44 games vs. Rex's 24. Do you think that Rex will post better numbers in his next 20 games? Maybe that he's improve even slightly with experience?

I see a QB in Rex who appears to have more raw talent than the Punky QB who stole our hearts and minds in 85. McMahon didn't play all 16 but he put up very similar numbers. What stands out to me is Rex's 8 additional TD's.

All I'm sayin is that Rex brought us to the NFC title game. Ain't been there since McMahon played in Diego. We gotta acknowledge that we're in the MIX! Only 4 teams left! one winnable game before the SuperBowl. Let's ride the RexCoaster guys! Get behind your man.

What I was getting at here Mac, is that Grossman has a decent point. Maybe the timing for such a comment was not the best but he is kinda right.

I would hope he could get 1000 more with all those throws.

Yards per attempt -
Rex - 6.65 17th in NFL
Jim - 7.64 would be 7th

Rex should just be happy that he has a high-paying job.
Lots of people would love to be in his situation. Stop complaining!

So, you're saying that most people would love to have Rex's job and he should just enjoy it and quit complaining?

Mac, your thoughts? :D

BeeDub, I'm just saying that their stats are close. McMahon is a legend. Rex is dogfood. I used their comparative stats to show that Rex may have something there in his comments...

That's news to me. I never got the impression many Bears fans thought he was a great QB, much less legendary. He was an 85 Bear, though, so his name is immortalized.

McMahon vs. Fuller

Bears would have won that Super Bowl 55-10 with Fuller.

Thoughts?

LET'S GET IT ON...

Tallest midget in Bears QB history, IMHO.

McMahon was an average quarterback. Rex, while statistically average due to his bad games, has made throws this season Jimmy McMahon never could have made.

Since you got this out of your system on the board, I assume we will not have to hear about it for four hours this afternoon.

Mac I remember you saying that you would no longer care about what athletes say. Just judge them on their play. I guess that rule doesn't apply when you can pin Grossman for something. Who gives a shit what he said. Your team is in the final 4. He won you a playoff game. The way you've been talking all year you never thought this was possiblev - a final 4. There are 26 starting quarterbacks that you obviously like better that our sitting at home.

Don't give me "he's been along for the ride" because the Bears gave up 24 points in the divisional playoff ride.

Or . . . a lot of the senseless talk goes back and forth ad nauseam

--I realize typos happen, so no offense, but I figured we wouldn't want people to read it and run with that one either. Please excuse my correction. I'm not for rampant "red ink" all over the board, just every once and while.

Back on topic, the guy just lobs this stuff up like softballs.

Rex wants respect?

Okay, then don't shit the proverbial bed against the rival Packers on national TV.

Or win us a Super Bowl. Then you'll be set for life. :D

Sorry, that post was unedited. If I would have thought about it I maybe would have made the correction at the time. I didn't so I'll live with it.

Correct my grammar all you want, it really doesn't bother me. I have no problem admitting I'm wrong. It happens all the time. I love ending statements with prepositions and run on sentences too.

Beardown, I do try to ignore a lot of thhis stuff, but as the Irish Warrior pointed out, he lobs this stuff up there for all to take an easy whack. He's the goddamn quarterback, a vocation that requires the ability to lead, to possess confidence that borders on arrogance. Instead, we get this mamby pamby, sniffling little "woe is me" crap. What a pussy. Grossbomb was raised by affluent parents... that I know. I suspect Rex Grossman never knew the meaning of disappointment and rejection until now. And he's handling very, very poorly. And no, Good Dolphin, we won't spend all four hours on what Mulligan had. Dickerson is sending stuff we'll have in the first or second segment that is from today. I'm told I may need a valium before hearing the latest whine.

Bearsssssssss.
