Johnny Cash - Hurt

The NIN version is great and I still love it but when I 1st heard this on Mancows show on Q101 back in the day I was like
Cash has a way of making songs sound haunting. The video is great too as it shows him at his youthful peak to his old and frail last months

Where Did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana

This song has been covered for well over 100 years. Leadbetters is the most well known version and I like since I am a fan of very old music

Nirvana really took this song to another level though

I'm going to disagree on Blinded by the Light. I like the Springsteen version better.

In the Springsteen category, 10,000 Maniacs version of Because the Night.

Wouldve liked to hear him cover " Closer" just so I could hear him say I want to fuck you like an animal.

These are great!
I was gonna throw Redding's Day Tripper vid in there but I had to do these one at a time since thats all we are allowed per post

Buckley's Hallelujah is amazing but I still like Cohen's more

Cohen's is also very good. It's a great song. I haven't heard a version of it I didn't like.

This was another one I was thinking of when I put Day Tripper on my list. His cover of Respect is very good too.

Black Magic Woman - Santana

This is another one that is just as good if not better than the original by Fleetwood Mac. Both are great

Nirvana's covers of Lake of Fire (Meat Puppets) and The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie) were probably the best parts of their MTV Unplugged

Rage: Kick out the Jams (MC5)
Ike and Tina Turner: Proud Mary (CCR)
Joe Strummer & the Mescalaros: Redemption Song (Bob Marley)
Talking Heads: Take Me to the River (Al Green)
Elvis Costello: What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love & Understanding (Nick Lowe)

Johnny Cash's cover of U2 One was so goddamn bad it was almost laughable. I did enjoy his cover of Hurt though.
Check out Willie Nelson's cover of DMB's Gravedigger... awesome, and the video is GREAT IMHO.
Also, B51 does a naughty little cover of Jimmy cliff's Harder they Come

Agreed on both counts. I liked most of Cash's work on that album. Hurt was noteworthy IMO.

Cash's cover of "Southern Accent" blows Petty's original away too.

I like Cake. but youre crazy if you think thats better than Gloria Gaynor's version.
(Her version is in my top 50 songs ever)
EDIT: So you and IMU are fighting over who was wrong first?
good stuff.

Also, while I like the Joe's version, I think the Beatles version of Friends is underrated
