I give him all the credit. He broke a good story here. He was right. I'd certainly pay a lot more attention to him next time he said something of that sort.

Really, I was just annoyed because I kept seeing that thread and then reading about offers the Yankees and White Sox were making to him. But CSF was right.

Three cheers for citizen journalism!

it's some strange quasi Stockholm syndrom that being on the Cubs has on its players...mediocrity becomes so comfortable that they fear success, they run from it

Wood's return means Cashner could become the No. 3 starter behind Dempster and Carlos Zambrano, with Randy Wells, Carlos Silva, Tom Gorzelanny, Jeff Samardzija and perhaps Brandon Webb competing for the other two spots.

I am sorry but I don't get the Andrew Cashner love. He may have a great arm but his fastball is straight and he got hit hard the times I saw him pitch. Reminds me of Farnsworth.

Does he even have 3 quality pitches?

the Cashner love is legit...he looked good last year

what i dont get is this turning him into a starter shit...im tired of these screwball out-of-left-field ideas that people come up with, just like Colvin playing first

Sean Marshall is not a setup man...he is a starter...he was a setup man by default last year...let's keep things straight here:

Marshall a starter, Cashner a reliever

explain yourself

Marshall came up as a starter
Cashner came up as a reliever

thats how it should be

I agree with the Cashner starting but I dont think Marshall has ever got an extended chance as a starter.

And by extended I mean at least 20 starts...in a row.

no

Cashner has never been projected as a starter

he doesnt even have a 3rd pitch

it's another silly last-minute idea by the Cubs because they think they dont have enough starters...once again, this mentality that if we don't have five #1 starters, something is wrong...so they gotta take a good arm and wreck it...Marmol didnt make it as a starter, but is a great reliever...by ur logic, with his great arm, he should be a starter...

Marshall has never failed as a starter...he has been average or above average in most of his starts, and most of those was when he first came up...they never gave him a chance to get start after start, to get his rhthym going and stuff

now I'm not gonna complain too much abou Sean being in the pen because he did great last year, but Cashner a starter comes out of nowhere and is silly...yet everyone buys it because someone in the media started it...same with the Colvin playing first deal...im tired of screwball ideas from this organization

not that MLB players dont change positions or roles sometimes, but usually there is a little more thought put into it, without bullying the player's confidence around

2006 was his rookie year

not terribly bad actually, and far better than what Greg Maddux did in 1987

I usually try to stay out of Cub threads. But this one is pissing me off. He hasn't signed with the Cubs. He isn't a Cub again. It's a complete bullshit thread. bigfan should delete the fucking thing.

He signed Friday. Thanks for playing.

I'm not sure what your point is. If CSF had simply titled the thing "Kerry Wood will be signing with the Cubs Friday", I would never even have clicked on the fucking thing. Thanks for playing.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/playe ... &year=2006

baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=marshse01&t=p&year=2007

24 starts in a row followed by 19 starts in a row.

I don't think he has changed much since then. Sure you can give him another shot and see...I'm not "against" it...but why get rid of the excellent bullpen innings he gives? He is proven there.

A starter is worth more.

i guess I blocked out 06. Also, this upcoming season will be a great for "see what you have" type stuff.

I think he's a hell of a lot better pitcher since then

Also, while the Cubs have always wanted to make him a starter, most of the reports on Cashner say, could be a decent starter-definitely can excell in bullpen.

So whistler isnt totally off here.

I have no clue how many times you post in the Cubs area, but you just seem to me a guy that reads pretty much any and every thread that appears on the new post list.

I read most topics, but there is just stuff I'm not too interested in. The way the Cubs fill out their bullpen is one of those things. I'm glad Wood is back with the Cubs, but I was far more in interested in him when he was a free agent. That's what led to my frustration with the thread title. I didn't mean to cause a beef with CSF who was just relaying something he knew and turned out to be correct.

True enough. As I said, I won't question you next time, if there is a next time. I'm glad we don't have a beef. I have enough regular beefs on this board that I don't need another one with you.

The ultimate meatballhood struck again. Some boob called the radio complaining because Kerry didn't have a suit on yesterday. Maybe he should have worn the suit he wore to the funeral of the best man at his funeral.

Also the boobs saying it's all about sentimentality and tickets and that's all Ricketts is after.

Well
A. It's a solid baseball move. It's not like it's not a good move for the team

and

B. If Ricketts was all about ticket sales and sentimentality wouldn't Sandberg be the manager?

And Hendry has put on the weight he lost.

The funny thing is, while his market value is greater than the contract he signed, by the end of the year it will once again seem like he is stealing from the Cubs.
