In the week before the game Mac said that if the Saints did win it would make him sick to hear two weeks of stories about the Saints, Katrina, rebuilding New Orleans, etc. I fully agreed. We've already gotten our fill of these stories leading up to the NFC title game and two weeks more would make me sick too.

But apparently there were a bunch of idiots at the game that taunted Saint fans who were flooded out of their homes. The guys pictured have received a lot of media coverage in New Orleans for distasteful, vulgar barbs at Saints' fans about Katrina. Anyone recognize these idiots?

One does not equal 'a bunch'. And if I'm not mistaken, that looks like a Packer fan incognito as a Bears fan.

And if indeed it was 'a bunch' - that doesn't equate to 'the city of Chicago' feeling that way. I'd be SHOCKED if other Bears fans didn't say anything to that Packer fan.

But, I guess it's OK that their very own residents looted and stole from people down there while the floods were going on.

The drunken meatball on the right appears to be wearing shorts. We may all take solace in the fact that he is presently enduring a painful recovery from hypothermia and alcohol poisoning.

Not suprisingly, the meathead's shorts have a U of I logo....

Actually, these guys were nominated as the Worst Person in the World yesterday for this on Countdown.

KS, I take my shots at the Illini when I can, but Asshat 101 seems rather advanced for this guy.

And I suppose it was people from Chicago who have already murdered 12 people in NO this year.

The media is just continuing with the "Chicago is the villan" angle of the whole Saints story.

The only thing that the picture proves is that there are jagoffs everywhere.

Was this not the tasteless but logical conclusion to using Katrina as a justification for why the Saints should be America's Team? This was silly from the start. If it had in some way resulted in some meaningfull relief of the plight of the survivors, it would have been justified. I don't think that happened.

On a related note, how did Ray Nagin avoid all responsibility for the unpreparedness with Katrina? Even if you can take a leap of faith and assume that the FEDERAL government is responsible for the evac and clean-up, how could he have avoided scrutiny for failing to get the Feds there in time in the first place?
The fact that that bozo was re-elected shows me what NO is made of. Also, it keeps me from feeling too sorry for them. Nagin let them down, and they re-elected him anyway.

Do you think it's a coincidence that FEMA made headlines today in announcing they will be extending their federal handouts for the residents of NO for another six months? The Saints lost in the NFC Championship.. bringing an end to the Saints rebuilding efforts in NO. Dejected and lost, FEMA realized they'd have to continue providing housing, food and clothing to citizens of NO and maybe they'd even have to start rebuilding things now the the Saints are no longer playin... oh.. I mean.. saving the city.

Since I'm sure it cost a bloody fortune for people to come from New Orleans...I sincerely doubt there were any Saints fans at Soldier Field who had been flooded out of their homes.

Please tell me you're kidding. While poorer sections of the city were hardest hit, houses of all values were destroyed, and people of all incomes were displaced and/or killed.

this wasn't the only sign, i don't see the big outrage on this board, it was joked around about a lot here too. But also not a big surprise on the national outrage. I saw a comment on some other board, when some guy said 'Saints Suck' someone responded with 'way to be a true American'

The moral of the story is that the media ruins everything. Any good story there is out there is bludgeoned to death because there's no end to the outlets and everyone wants to be the first one on the spot, or they want to have the most coverage.

I understand the resentment toward the media coverage and maybe even some of the ways people have handled the whole crisis down in NO. But you don't live there, you didn't go through it, so why try and put yourself in their position? My dad's whole side of his family pretty much lost everything. They didn't loot stores. They didn't come from necessarily poor neighborhoods--they're still struggling. My uncle developed a drinking habit that he still can't get rid of. Almost tore his marriage and his family apart. A friend of my dad's lost both of his houses--one of them was a summer home in Miss. on the bayou.

There is a lot of crime in NO, there was a lot of crime before Katrina. It's a crime ridden city. It's a poor city. People don't want to come to grips with that because everyone wants to romantasize it as this wonderful party city that's always a great time. There is much of NO even before Katrina that is a cesspool.

Apologize for the long post, but after reading all your thoughts I wanted to pitch in.

Also, as far as the Saints story goes--I've always felt the media missed the boat. It should never have been about Katrina. You go to a Saints fan, it's electric in that dome. We love our team, it's a love-hate relationship. It's all they have down there besides the docks and the fairgrounds.

You don't have to pity anyone. But don't assume you know what they went through. That's just a general statement; not directed toward any specific person.

Yes, of course I was kidding. But since I've been ripping the Mike North Meathead Show all day because I was irritated at them again, I forgot to put my sarcasm away. Sorry if I offended.

I too have been to a Saints game. Just an awesome experience. It was at the end of the 2003 season against the Cowboys. I believe the Saints won and knocked them out of playoff contention. But then again, I was with an irritating girlfriend and I had to drink.

FEMA's announcement of its increased sense of urgency also included a renaming of the agency. FEMA's new official name is Find Every Mexican Available.

Mike North can cause great pain...

Yes I remember the game you're talking about, Saints went on one of their memorable Jim Haslett twin snowmen seasons...but the Cowboys went 10-6 that year and lost in the wildcard round to the eventual NFC champs the Panthers.

Am I the only one who heard Skinless's Pool of Stool when I saw this? Probably.

Damn shame about New Orleans. Damn shame.
