Switched to just playing hockey, but with my back problems (6 back surgeries) I can only do so much exercising. Add that to just getting older and the weight has been creeping back on for the past decade. Had it steady around 200 a few years ago but lately its climbed up into the 220s. Was as high as 225 after I got back from my cruise a few weeks ago.

At least we know it wasn't water weight.

My wife is using the WII Resort Fitness Plus (the balance board actually calculates and tracks your BMI). It will be interesting to see how effective it is (1.8 lbs in 3 days so far).

Hoping won't get you anywhere -> get your ass to work.

Eating an apple can actually wake you up much more efficiently in the morning in comparison to a cup of coffee.

So I signed up for the FitDay.com website that Darko suggested and it says that in my "Seated All Day" lifestyle, I burn 888 calories a day?

No shit?

No shit.

You theoretically burn calories just by breathing.

:(

Hope he's ok.

That's one thing I'm glad for. Even though I'm overweight, my blood pressure and cholesterol are great.

Still need to get fit.

Yeah, he's out now...but based on family history, it will be the first of many trips...

...I say the same thing...last time I got my numbers, they were fine...but that definately won't last at this rate...

Nope. Longer I'm overweight, the worse those numbers likely will be.

Hence the "Commitment to Averageness".

My dinner last night was celery sticks, carrots, split peas, and broccoli.

Yummy.

Hoping to be 215 by end of the weekend.

I'm 6'2 btw for those wondering....

I have a bag of Granny Smith apples in my desk. Hell, if it can work
for Tall Midget, maybe it can work for me. Better than buying crap out
of the machine in the cafeteria anyway.

As a cancer survivor, how could you possibly justify to yourself ever having a cigarette? The thought of even being around smokers would scare me.

 Sage advice. I am only eating the apples as a snack alternative. Between the
stuff that was laying around everywhere for the holidays and buying stuff out of the
machine I am sure that accounted for a few pounds the past month. No way I could
only eat an apple for lunch and have that be the only thing I eat between 5am and 5pm.

Not sure what's so funny, as my plan has worked effectively for me.

I lost about 15 pounds between Halloween and Christmas and would like to lose at least another 10 pounds or so. As chronicled in another thread, I began my weight loss program by severely limiting my caloric intake for lunch (basically just eating apples or oranges during the day, but having a "normal" dinner) and running a couple miles twice a week. As I began to lose weight and my endurance improved, I gradually increased my workout routine so that I am now running an average of 6 miles 5 or 6 times per week. Would like to incorporate some weight training into my routine--I lifted pretty religiously for more than a decade up until about a year ago--but I don't really have the time for it.

You might be hungry as fuck when you first start out, but your body will adjust to it after a couple days.

This is true. Basically you experience a couple days of withdrawal, but after that you are fine. Right now I generally have a couple oranges and a snack bar or two between 5AM and 5PM.

Weight loss is contingent upon your individual metabolism, as well. While TM's plan may have worked for him, that doesn't mean it will work for everyone. Eating smaller meals throughout the day, for example, works better for me than starving myself in the morning/afternoon followed by a hefty dinner at night.

I agree your plan worked just as you hoped it would. I try to run 3 miles at least 3 times a week,
and like you, I hope to increase the frequency and distance. I just couldn't only eat an apple, but
was incorporating your idea to utilize them as a snack.

Everything TM says is for everybody.

I pretty much lost 25 pounds 2 years ago by cutting back on what I eat. I worked out twice a week for 30 minutes, and ate healthier with smaller portions. Dropped all that weight in about 3-4 months.

Never said it was for everybody. It has worked for plenty of people, though, and is hardly a novel approach. Many wrestlers adopt a similar method when cutting weight.

I've lost seven pounds already this year because my current situation after surgery leaves me unable to get around and get food for myself. I am eating only what I am served and i have no other choice but to accept that.

Anyone looking to drop weight fast? I recommend getting busted in Kane County. You'll shed those pounds in no time.
