Yes to you and Scorpio.

It's his shoulder, btw. The potential of the deal was far better than what was given to San Diego. It was a cash dump on the other end, and even with Peavy in doubt, they're better off without Richard in the rotation and Poreda in the bullpen.

Fair enough, but the Sox are paying millions of dollars to not have Richard in the rotation. That money could be used for a pitcher whose shoulder muscle is connected to his body.

I think the surgery reattached the shoulder muscle. Now it's a matter of seeing if he will pitch again. The way I see it, Edwin Jackson will be a huge part of the rotation, and I don't think that trade happens without certain pieces coming apart, including the Peavy trade/injury.

Also, as far as the Sox are concerned, the rotation is the last thing I'm worried about. I'm more worried about the closer situation.

I'm trying to slow my roll a bit here in my reaction. Hendry has made some very good trades as a GM. Choi for Lee, Bobby Hill for Aramis etc. So let's wait to see exactly what the package is.

That said, the Cubs are a lot more than this move away from winning in the NL Central or the Pennant. In our division, STL, Cincy and even Milwaukee are in a better position to win now than us. And that's not even including how good the Phillies are going to be this year. I really think I'd rather watch a bunch of kids play for a year or two and let our books become clear of these albatross contracts.

If these are the names in the deal you should slow your roll. I just read that this Churros guy is 27 yrs old and Guyer is 25 yrs old and hasn't played a game above double A. I find it hard to believe this is all Tampa wants in return for a pitcher like Garza.

The very problem with this move is it feels like a try to win at all costs/save his job sort of move. It's Rickett's fault for allowing him to be in this position. We really haven't traded away any players under Hendry's watch that have really turned into a superstar. Casey McGehee would probably be the biggest name, but he was pulled off of waivers by the Brewers i believe.

Levine tweeted that 8 players are involved in this deal. If our 4 are accurate, I wouldn't be surprised to see us get some interesting prospects back. Hopefully a 1B/2B type. Our pitching is still pretty deep even with trading Archer.

Well Archer is going to fall in the you need to give up value to get value camp. A lot of scouts are talking that Junior Lake has a higher ceiling than Lee does, which makes him a bit more expendable. Anyone else is just filler.

I would be shocked if the Cubs get prospects in return. Maybe a salary dump guy.

The Cubs are getting prospects according to Levine. Two minor leaguers. It is an 8 player deal...5 to the Rays, 3 to the Cubs.

I hope the Rays include Don Zimmer as a thrown in.

The Cubs are getting an OF and a P in return in addition to Garza.

The prospects the Cubs are getting are probably Hoffpauer types

25 yr old AAAA players

Not to go all BernStine on the board, but how does this trade get you closer to a championship? This doesnt even help you win the division.

They are better this year with him than without him.

That makes you "closer", no?

Maybe, I'm not so sure. Isnt the knock on Garza that he is a little crazy, Takes losses too hard and beats himself up about bad pitches. Maybe I made that up, I dont know for sure. :drunken:

Every team would have a spot in their rotation for him. So they're better with him than without.

In no way will he be the craziest starter on the staff that takes losing too hard or beats himself up (or others), so I think we safe on that front.

That actually is not a bad rotation on paper.

After Wells year last year, can you really pencil him into a spot? I think he's in the mix for 4/5 with no guarantees.
