Just read on line that none of the "prospects", according to other teams experts, that were traded aren't high end players. None were going to be big time players. I'm a Sox fan so I really don't care, but is there a guarantee that any draft picks are going to amount to anything? Remember the rage when all these "can't miss" players the Sox have traded in the past? Where are most of those guys now? Well their not in any all star games.

So did you draw this all by yourself, or did your mom help you? Did you mail it with a fan letter like Mac did to Chase Utley on Always Sunny? Was thatindeed your inspiration for this drawing?

no, it doesn't. They only insure 3 year deals for pitchers.

Yes, it does. Insurance policies cover three-year intervals and are renewable. The Sox renewed the contract when they made the trade.

Don't think so, but you may know more than I do about it. However, he pitched enough last year and may this year to not qualify. I don't think they cover partial seasons, just full or almost full seasons of disabled status.

BTW, has the ever bitter, smug, sally boy, stonepony commented about the deal yet?
Knowing he has NEVER seen the prospects play, I'm sure he thinks the Cubs gave up way too much.

I'm pretty sure it's only redeemable if he has a career ending injury and it covers 40% of the contract which sounds like a lot.

*let the record show* a Cub fan brought his name into the conversation.

Honestly, it would not surprise me to see #34 retired.

Not before #33 for the Sox.

After seeing what they gave up it looks like Hendry has found the Pirates of the AL.

Hendry paid a high price on paper, but at least he upgraded the staff with a proven commodity. Prospects are just that. Some say Lee will be an impact player, but many say he won't hit, etc. As for Archer, who knows? You gotta given something to get something, so we will see. Hendry sure gave up a lot of prospects though. I hope Garza can keep the ball in the park. I haven't seen him pitch enough to assess how good he can be in the NL, but he is certainly an upgrade over the plethora of 4-5 starters they have now.

History says his ERA will drop coming to the NL but I would also expect his number of HR to increase. Therefore there may not be as big a dent in his ERA. He's giving up about 30 long balls a year now.

So for those who have seen him pitch, what is the scouting report? Is he a solid #2? Seems like he can handle the pressure having performed well in the post season. That is certainly a good thing given how the Cubs have choked there in the past. So does this guy have the eye of the tiger or what??

On the Cubs he could be the ace of the staff but ideally you would want him to be a #2 (#4 if you're the Phillies). He's a fly ball pitcher with pretty good command. He's about to enter the prime of his career too.

He is also the only player from the Rays last year with a worse batting average than Pena. Career 0/11. It will be a glorious day when he gets that first knock.

statistically speaking, i wouldnt expect his number of HRs given up to increase simply by changing leagues, mainly because he has one less slugger to pitch to each game. by moving to the NL, a pitcher in essence is trading pitching to a DH like adam dunn in potential run scoring situation for pitching to a another pitcher 2-3 ABs a game. that is truly why ERA's in the NL are lower than the AL, not because the AL hitters are somehow superior. the AL lineups are simply stronger top to bottom, and dont have the built-in rally-killer in the 9 hole.

i like the garza trade because they are getting him for 3 years. after this season, i believe a lot of dough comes off the books (although soriano still remains) and garza will still be here when they start re-assembling pieces for next year and beyond. i am really surprised they were able to get him for prospects.

Not a bad deal overall. He's under team control for the next three seasons which is the best part of this deal.

Did Lilly give up more at Wrigley?

I read an article showing Garzas high fly ball rate is somewhat mitigated by his abnormally high "fly balls that remain in infield" rate

This is not a question of who or what.
It made the team better, no question.

The issue is when. Is thos the right move now for this team? Not sure

make no mistake about, that is the most important part of this deal for Bully--control

he wants to be able to bully him around if need be, including trading him if he sucks, so that he can embarass him and make himself look powerful again...why teams continue to feed Bully is beyond me

obviously the Pirates and Orioles finally learned their lesson and stopped feeding him salary dumps, so what does he do? he looks to a successful club and fleeces them instead...what a weasel
