He pitches in Wrigley now. He will give up more HR.

wrigley was 9th in average hr per game last year, and tropicana field was 17th. they were separated by .2 per game. not much of a difference, certainly not enough to come right out and say he will unquestionably give up more homers. ted lilly is a great example. all the talk was how many homers he was going to give up. his hr per game were lower as a cub than they were as a blue jay, and skydome gives up more HR than wrigley does.

until the guy suits up and plays its all speculation, but it is hardly a given that he is going to give up more hrs. if he does it will be due to his pitching, not due to his park.

It blows in more often than out at Wrigley, not to mention for the most part newer stadiums are being made smaller, so Wrigley doesn't play nearly as small as it once seemed.

So for those who have seen him pitch, what is the scouting report? Is he a solid #2?

Well, the Cubs have had a lot of, ahem, "solid #2's" on their teams throughout my lifetime. So, if he is, he'll fit right in.

Sorry to disappoint but Garza is currently putting the finishing touches on some sweet braids and a lumberjack beard.

Normally, it's assumed that a pitcher coming from the A.L. will do better in the N.L. But in this case, I have top believe that Garza will do substancially better, when you stop to consider the number of games he had been facing the Yankees and Red Sox each year. Now, he will be facing hitters that will be of a lower caliber and who are unfamiliar with him for the most part. I have to think he should prosper. That said, I'm not sure how much sense this deal makes. I would have understood going with youth and trying to buy time while the bloated contracts of Zambrano, Ramirez and Soriano run out. But it seems as though they have decided to make a half-assed run at the division again. Either make a real run at it, or rebuild, but choose a lane....
