I definitely need to start getting fit. About to turn 40 and found out my triglycerides are way to high....235. :o :( My overall cholesterol is fine, but my good cholesterol is low. I'm going to re-read much of this thread because, after all it's 100% reliable, right?

Wait, what?
No, really...seems like some sound advice in many of the posts. 8)

All information is alleged and 100% unreliable.

That's why you have to pick your spots. I learned while I was laid up that I couldn't drink 2-3 beers a night and expect my weight to stay where it was....Now I try and space it out.

So this post about information being unreliable is unreliable? Cancels out and makes reliable then, right?

Trying to eat better. This whole "cutting out caffeine" isn't going very well....

Don't cut the caffeine. It raises your metabolism and acts as an appetite suppressant.

When you are dieting, reducing caffeine can actually help you because caffeine constricts the blood vessels and acts much like a water pill, flushing excess water from the body. If you don't drink enough water already, this can actually force you to retain more water. So by cutting down your caffeine intake and upping your water intake, you can actually bring your body into a better water balance.

Reducing your caffeine intake can also improve your sleep patterns. Using caffeine to regularly make up for sleep deprivation is unhealthy and can lead to negative eating habits. While cutting all your caffeine may not be an attractive option, one way to help both your sleep patterns and your water retention is to switch to decaffeinated after 5 p.m. in the evening. While your body does not store caffeine in your system, it does take several hours to eliminate its stimulant effects.

Just cause you said it, don't make it right bro.
We'll have to agree to disagree.
I'm not advocating 20 cups of coffee a day.

It's from a nutrition and dieting website.

Well, the text assumes you don't drink enough water. In fact the warning seems to be about your water balance, which is not a problem if you're drinking enough.
Also, the warning appears to be about your sleep patterns and ceffeine after 5pm.
In any case, caffeine does nothing to cause trouble with fat loss.
I get that you got it from a website but the information in those websites (as someone who did a lot of Men's Health and Fitday and Jenny websites) is often contradictory and outdated.

My doctor didn't have a problem with me starting my day with 5-6 cups of coffee. Discussed this with him prior to my new program.

I agree that caffeine is fine. Its in a lot of supplements already because of its ability to be a metabolic enhancer. I am assuming its black coffee and not loaded up with a bunch of shit though.

A pot of coffee is 12 cups I think.
But regardless, he told me that's not terrible although it will certainly affect my mood. And my stool.

One of the websites I went to today had a 6' man of 33 years old listed at an ideal weight of 137 to 184.
First that is a tremendous swing. Also, if I were anything less than 180 I'd look like doug. 180 is really fucking low.

Dude, I'm 28, 5'10" and 175. I am considered "overweight". I agree with you; this shit is nuts.

When I was down to 180 I looked like I was sick or something. Of course I also fucked up my post. I wanted to say that if I was 137 I would "look like doug" and i totally fucked it up.

I think my ideal weight would be between 190 and 200.

5'9"ish, 215ish, and I am obese.

Sure, I could lose 15 or 20 LBs, but I do not think I am obese. Hell, eve at 170 I would still be "overweight"

I was pretty damn surprised you clock in at 215.

Truth be told, I might be closer to 205. I haven't been on a scale in months.

Can you imagine someone of my size down to 136? That's completely insane.
I'm kind of wide, even without the fat. If I were 136 I'd be like a 6 foot version of Calista Flockhart.

My ideal weight is 160-165. Personally, I don't care how I look, but I also don't enjoy buying new clothing to hit my gut.

BMI is without a doubt the worst way to determine body composition. It has zero regard for muscle mass. Every single athlete that isn't Timmy Lincecum would be considered obese.

This. I got up to 225 around the holidays though. I want to get down to around 175ish and yeah that would still make me overweight.

I've always been extremely thin, but after I was done with college I did have a little gut going and was around 185-190. I wanted to drop about 20 pounds two years ago, and I ended up dropping 30 because I got food poisoning and ended up losing an addition 10 pounds because I didn't eat anything for about 5-6 days. I'm content with where I am right now, about 165. I still have a small gut going and virtually no muscles whatsoever. If I gained some muscle weight and worked out, it wouldn't be so bad though.
