Welcome aboard.

What makes me feel better is that I was up to about 250 when I got divorced.

Wow I thought you were a fitness buff. I don't picture you at that weight at all.

I'm overweight or really close to it. It's not about weight it's about how clothes fit, how you feel, and what is healthy. You guys need to let go of this weight stuff.

Knocked out 3 miles on the treadmill this morning at 4am. Currently
trying to eat a balanced diet under 2000 calories and burn at least
500 calories a day at the gym. Did 550 this morning. Hoping to
get the calorie burn up closer to at least 750 a day when I get my stamina
up and start running 4-5 miles at a clip. Gotta train myself to do it
that early in the morning.

the first couple weeks you will lose a lot of weight; then you will plateau. this is when people usually quit.

i've been the same weight for over 12 years. i fluctuate 3-5 pounds depending on how much i drank over the weekend, and i usually gain some muscle weight during training.

Yeah, I am big on cardio but I need to incorporate some lifting. In a
perfect world I would run in the morning and then lift for 45 minutes
after work 3-4 times a week. Increased muscle would help burn the
fat off I think.

just don't over do it. you can work out that frequently, just change it up. trick your muscles, as they say. change up the weight lifting; alternate light and heavy days. and always do different muscles.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Shouldn't be a problem for me to overdo it
since I don't really like lifting all that much and doing it alone gets pretty
boring. I'll just need to come up with 3 or 4 different 45 minute plans and
go from there. Thanks for the tip.

I've now lost about 17 pounds since the beginning of November. Lately, I've been eating a lot more fish, particularly sushi, for dinner. It seems like doing so is helping take the pounds off a little easier than previously.

you exercising at all TM? Seems like you should be losing more weight than you are with the strict diet you've been on.

You think so? I probably gained 1-2 lbs after eating last night.

So far it appears that my stomach is going down a bit.

Eating more fish too. Caught a couple of great salmon recipes on America's Test Kitchen last week-end. I'll be trying them out in the next week.

Dude, my wife goes to these "Tastefully Simple" parties, kind of like a food equivalent of the candle party or tupperware party. They sell dry mix type stuff, like beerbread (which naturally I highly recommend to everyone). But one thing she got was this Bayou Bourbon Glaze that made the Salmon fucking Sing on my plate. Unbelieveable.
I recommend it heartily.

highly recommend their Garlic Garlic and Bacon chip dip mix (it comes in a shaker).

that stuff is expensive, but pretty darn good.

Yes, I run 5 or 6 times per week.

The pace of my weight loss has been slowed by the fact that I took a few weeks off from dieting and working out around the holidays. As a result, I gained a few pounds back and then had to lose them again. I'm also not that disciplined with my diet on the weekends. Need to get better with that.

My wife stopped nursing at the beginning of December and was ready to lose the baby weight and I decided that I could lose some weight (5' 11", 187) and really I wanted to be supportive and help her out so we got a treadmill to go with the elliptical machine we have in our exercise room, so that we could work out together (running outside here is torture for someone who is not used to running, we live on top of a hill in the middle of rolling hills). Additionally we are using the lose it ap for our ipod/iphone and it has really helped, you tell it what you weight and how much you want to lose over x amount of time it then gives you a calorie budget for the day and you tell it what you have eaten and it has a pretty good list of supermarket and restaurant foods. My wife has already lost weight (noticeably) and I am now down to 181, and that was over the holidays when we didn't get to work out that much due to travel, but a good chunk of it has happened since we came home after the holidays and could work out. So, I cannot recommend the lose it ap enough.

Describes me perfectly, as well. Weekends are the worst. NFL Playoff weekends don't help one bit.

Just had my weekly weigh in, down to 211. Was at 213 last week so that's only a 2 pound loss which is a little disappointing considering how hard I worked at it this week, but I guess I plateaued a little so I'm not that upset. I'm sure I'm due for a big loss in the next week or so. Started at 225 after christmas and had a bad NYE weekend so its basically a 14 pound loss this month so far.

Keep at it fellas, this thread is encouraging and a nice motivator.

I made some decent new years resolutions, but those things don't seem to hold and they weren't nearly ambitious enough to put a dent in my obesity. So it's time to put some real goals down on paper (err, virtual paper anyways)...had a chat with some of the guys at work and they thought these were certainly more ambitious than I would come up with...

1) Excercise minimum of 30 minutes a day...only freak circumstances allow me to cheat on this one, so it's pretty much an hour of more of dance central every night until the snow melts...

2) Cut down to three (12 oz) pops a day...yeah, that might still be a lot, but to put it in perspective, Thursday alone I probably put away at least 100 ounces of pop before 2:00...yeah, bad bad bad...anyways, I've been told I'm allowed to cheat on this one if the pop is being used in a mixer, but otherwise, I'm planning on sticking to no more than 36 ounces in a day...

3) Fruits and/or veggies for breakfast and lunch, smaller portions of the good stuff for dinner...this was the one that threw my buddies for a loop...I actually love eating fruits and veggies but I never buy them...well, that's gonna change. As for dinners, I plan on eliminatiing the frozen foods and McDonalds altogether...at least for a while until I start dropping some pounds...I'll still make my absurd casseroles but I won't eat a huge portion of them for lunch and dinner anymore...I'll occasionally cheat on this one if we are doing breakfast or lunch at work or if I'm visiting the family, but for day-to-day operations, I'm gonna stick with the fruits and veggies...I just might have to clear the snow off the grill so I can get some zuchhini and asparagus going.

Starts today.
340.2lbs.
