I made some decent new years resolutions, but those things don't seem to hold and they weren't nearly ambitious enough to put a dent in my obesity. So it's time to put some real goals down on paper (err, virtual paper anyways)...had a chat with some of the guys at work and they thought these were certainly more ambitious than I would come up with...

1) Excercise minimum of 30 minutes a day...only freak circumstances allow me to cheat on this one, so it's pretty much an hour of more of dance central every night until the snow melts...

2) Cut down to three (12 oz) pops a day...yeah, that might still be a lot, but to put it in perspective, Thursday alone I probably put away at least 100 ounces of pop before 2:00...yeah, bad bad bad...anyways, I've been told I'm allowed to cheat on this one if the pop is being used in a mixer, but otherwise, I'm planning on sticking to no more than 36 ounces in a day...

3) Fruits and/or veggies for breakfast and lunch, smaller portions of the good stuff for dinner...this was the one that threw my buddies for a loop...I actually love eating fruits and veggies but I never buy them...well, that's gonna change. As for dinners, I plan on eliminatiing the frozen foods and McDonalds altogether...at least for a while until I start dropping some pounds...I'll still make my absurd casseroles but I won't eat a huge portion of them for lunch and dinner anymore...I'll occasionally cheat on this one if we are doing breakfast or lunch at work or if I'm visiting the family, but for day-to-day operations, I'm gonna stick with the fruits and veggies...I just might have to clear the snow off the grill so I can get some zuchhini and asparagus going.

Starts today.
340.2lbs.

The fact that you're already allowing yourself the option to cheat isn't a good sign. You should really eliminate soda altogether, it puts on more weight that anything. And you should make McDs a distant memory until you hit your target weight and then go there to celebrate.

You can't half ass/half commit to a diet, it won't work that way.

Good luck Lipid. Getting under 300 would be awesome. I hopped on the
scale this morning and was down 8 lbs from last week. I have a feeling
drinking some beers yesterday likely helped this number and was due to
a little dehydration but still think it is a positive start. The way I look at
it, the BEARS are helping me lose a little extra weight.

Almost 5lbs down in week 1 on Weight Watchers. Not too bad considering I only exercised one time in the week. Gotta work on that and make time for that this week.

Good luck, Lipid.

My goal for this week is to get down to 212 by Friday.

Thanks guys...

Since Saturday, I've done well on the exercise (forced myself out of bed yesterday morning, headache and all, to get in my 30 minutes of Dance Central)...pop alone has been good, although this weekend was about the craziest I've had in a while, thus way too many mixers. As for food, been doing the "eating less, more often" thing and it's been mostly fruits and veggies...

Still not sure my scale is accurate enough, as the number is bouncing around a lot, but the trend is going the right way...

that's going to happen. in fact, the last person i talked to who was going on her own diet and what not, i told her to just not even look at the scale the first month. it's going to mess with your mind.

you will eventually plateau, and you just gotta keep at it. where you're at, maybe looking at the scale once in while can be good for you but just keep in mind that even if you're not losing as much weight, your body is just adjusting. if you keep at it, you'll notice the pounds drop off. don't give up if you're not seeing immediate results. may take a while. good luck.

On top of what W_Z said, you're going to have bad days and fall off the wagon from time to time - whether it's pizza at work or too many drinks at night...The key is to get back on and limit the damage...mentally, you just have to forgive yourself and get back to work.

I'm weighing myself every Monday at the gym and am down 4 lbs. after one week. I'm cutting out ALL booze for the next two months. Hope to be down 33 lbs. by April 15th (the end of my busy season at work). Hitting up the gym 4-5 days a week and cutting back eating out to once per week. Let's hope it's a recipe for success.

Even though Shakes can be a dick, he does have a point about the soda. If you cut that completely and don't even do anything else to your diet or exercise you will probably shed 10-20 pounds very quickly.

Just go for the Diet sodas man.
Some are pretty good. Coke Zero is very good.
You can drink 2-3 of those a day and not add a single calorie to your day.
Eventually, you'll find that you don't like regular soda. I can't drink that shit anymore, it's actually kind of gross.
Diet Mt. Dew is great too.

I agree. Once you get used to not drinking sugar you realize you do not want to drink sugar. Love me some Diet Dew over just about any other choice.

If you are or ever decide to become a juggalo I believe all flavors of faygo come in the diet variety.

I've gone from drinking anywhere from 60 to 100 ounces of pop in a day to 36 or less...and that's been hard enough...

...I'm not giving up the shit...at least not right now...

Honestly that is the way I quit drinking so much soda. I switched to diet and didn't like the taste so much at first so I started drinking more water. I learned to like it, but I now don't need as much of it during the day.

I kinda dig the propel brand of products. It's got decent flavor for having virtually nothing else in it. I think they range from a minuscule 10-15 calories/per serving depending on the flavor.

I've been drinking this quite a bit lately. They make the little individual packets you can
put in your water bottle and have a lot of flavors. It is essentially like Gatorade but only
20 calories per packet which is way less than Gatorade.

I'm a big fan of 50/50 and Squirt. I bring two-liters to work... 8)
No caffeine!

I have been cheating and having a coke a day pretty regularly when the holidays started. it's hard to resist the santa bottle.
